What is his weight?? I have a big boy, he weighs 6.8kgs, the vet said he isnt over weight thou. edited by salsB on 29/04/2013 He's about 9.5kgs, give or take. His ideal weight would be about what your cat weighs as he is massive in height and length as well. But, he's getting old and is at risk for diabetes and arthritis, so I have to get him slimmed down for his own good. I'm aiming for about 6.5kgs. Oh he is a big fella, lol. Vet put my cat on a special diet, due to stomach problems, he never lost any weight. He loved his wet food, now only has dry, really cruel, do give fresh chicken to him thou, cant see him deprived.

I'd pick it all up, put it in a big bag, take it up to her and tell her she dropped something, here it all is back. That's just disgusting, you're a better person than me, I would have gone off my brain by now. I have sat and watched and with such disbelief to be honest, I cannot understand why she would want to polute the area. I am fuming, going over there shortly to tell her, and if it continues I will report her. edited by salsB on 29/04/2013

Are there littering laws in Dubai? Is this something you could "bother" the police with? Or is there an equivalent of a local council you could report her to? Joyce I'm in Doha now.

I live on a side street and my balcony over looks a small cul - de - sac, the building oposite is only 2 levels high with a shop underneath. The one tenant is throwing rubbish over her balcony into the Cul de Sac, and I dont mean a bit here and there. She throws handfuls over and it is scattered all over the place. I have sat and seen empty paint cans, bottles, paper, nappies. The kids were throwing stones from the roof at passing cars a few weeks ago, and had an adult with them at the time. He allowed them to do this!!!!! The area I live in hasnt got the best of views, which is ok, but to see the street becoming cluttered on a daily basis, is driving me nuts. What is the best way to go with this.

A friend lives in a tower at JLT, and she gets terrible reception. Can I ask what building your friend lives in? (Sorry to hijack the thread, but we're considering moving to JLT and want to know where I might have to deal with this problem so I can avoid it!) Cluster O, Madina. Please avoid the Armada's too ( Cluster P ), Maintenance useless and a/c just didnt work properly, and we lived in a brand new apartment. Pool is a shambles. Initially when we moved in, all seemed ok. Our LL kept our deposit too, and for no reason. O2 tower in Cluster O, is really nice thou.

You sponsor her, and its illegal for her to do extra work. Heavy fines for you if she gets caught working outside your home. You will have to pay towards her accommodation is she lives out. Is she paid as a full-time maid!!!! if she does her work so quickly, wouldnt it be cheaper to just bring an agency maid in!!!! edited by salsB on 22/04/2013

If the travellers are Dubai residents then you need to buy the policy there. We use AXA. You can include UK a visit, so not to complicate things, start your policy from Dubai. It wont cost you much more anyway. You will have to speak to the insurance company ref to the pre-existing condition. edited by salsB on 22/04/2013

47,000 per month is fine to live on, would say you will live quite comfortable, should be able to save a decent amount too. Maybe when you receive his contract look out for the important stuff, medical, flights, holidays, working days per work, bonus, gratuity, make sure its a contract can be converted into a marriage status one. Some contracts only pay basic pay whilst on holiday, so this would leave you with still paying your rent whilst away. Also you have to work a full year without any holiday pay, so make sure his contact does not say either, or accept as seen.

We watched that film, the other night, tut tut, cant think of the name now, the one with CarryAnn, and the house gets swallowed up, anyway, seen it that many times, but not for a while, the scene when the clown disapprears from the chair and ends up under the bed. My DD, Mate and I screamed all together, not sure who was the loudest, still scares me. Lol

I would say it will be far to expensive, wouldnt you need export and import health certs in both directions?? that cost could well be 2800 ( estimated ) then the flight as manifested cargo, which alot more expensive than excess luggage if this option was open to you, which it isnt. Kennels would be alot cheaper.

we arent talking about a sealed parcel here, anyone can check the stroller out to ensure its just a stroller. Personally I have taken things back for people, but I always say, make sure its not sealed as I need to check the contents. If I was going to be in the UK soon ( not till August ), I would bring the stroller back for the OP, no hesitation. OP has mentioned about meeting in a built up area with people round, so I cannot see any risk here to be honest.

You can transfer your Du. I did this with my old to new property. Didnt get any deposit back thou, and you still pay whilst they connect your new service. You can ask for final bill online and go and settle the account in person, you may find most of your deposit will be used up as accounts are normally in arrears. You have to close old account and set up new one for new apartment. I think your LLand tenant has to register this, but no entirely sure. I know my DD registered recently, need to ask her. edited by salsB on 22/04/2013 edited by salsB on 22/04/2013

I find that alot of people are saying they want to move home to the real life and not live "in a Bubble"!! not sure what this really means, as I know for sure I havent been living in one. As for money, without it, how would we survive. I am not saying we have to loaded with money, but based on how many ex colleagues of hubby contacting him as there is nothing at home. Home would only bring misery and stress if you cannot find work, to support the family. Being homesick, there is nothing worse, I miss my grandchildren, if I think about it to hard, it really upsets me. Us being here, we can give them alot more, such as holidays, buy them special treats when there mum is short of cash and a nice present Xmas. Just had the 3 of them over, to see them happy, enjoying the sun, playing in the pool, having nice treats, having fun with both myself and Hubby. There smiles is what makes us stay here, otherwise they wouldnt get holidays etc. Just priceless. We are all living overseas due to our own circumstances, we all tend to become homesick, hope the OP will be happy if she returns home, and the same goes to everyone else that makes that decision. I have the most brilliant of stories with regards to the UAE, would make your hair curl with shock, so the UAE isnt one of my fav of places anymore. Here to save, then when there is no more jobs, we are out of here.

Ive taken the bus from Ibn, the buses are more fitted out like coaches, so quite comfortable. Its very cheap, thinks its something like 25/30dhs. I would get to the stand quite early, as I would think if the bus becomes full, they do not allow people to stand. On your return make sure you get on the right bus, as one goes to Ibn and the other goes down to Dubai and doesnt stop.Bus timings do vary accordinging to the timetable so make sure you ask the driver when getting off in AD what time the buses return, if you have a time set, ask him the nearest time to suit you. You have to pay for your return ticket inside the building, you cant pay on the bus. So allow afew minutes more for this. Taxi's are as cheap as Dubai.

I once bought a one way out of Dubai then made my purchases from BHX-DXB-BHX, prices were roughly 415-450 pounds, alot cheaper than buying from DXB. Need to plan you dates as it used to cost about 60 pounds each time to change the date. edited by salsB on 21/04/2013

Im not int he UK, but have left Dubai. Had a lovely life there, really didnt spend a great deal on going out and socialising, even thou we went out most Fridays, spent time with my DD and our friends. How things change, now moved to Doha, indoors alot, dont go out, feel isolated, hubby just works and works, have no friends. I could quite easy throw the towel in.... but to think of going back to the UK, also puts me into a real sweat. So the moral of my post is, you can change to suit your environment. I am sure we will end up back in the UK when Hubby retires, then again maybe we wont.

Been to both, was in Thailand (Koh Samui ) this January, stayed at Atari Hotel and Spa. Not been to Goa since 2000, I would recommend Thailand. I found the best curry ever there aswell. Food was of a high standard, didnt seem to get as much hassle with the locals, in Goa you have really perservere with the constant haggling, can be really annoying.

the only franchise I've found that has anything near to the UK returns policy is good old M&S. It's up behind the pay counters in large print too. Just a shame they've nothing worth buying! edited by october on 14/04/2013 I agree, M&S is completely useless, to be honest who would buy some of the stuff they sell, shocking.
