I don't know. We have our own for our kids anyway so we took those. We had about 30 people so we had the whole dhow to ourselves. There were quite a few children in our group but I can't remember what the others did for lifejackets.

That's a "yes" to a suggestion, not a yes to they've gone out of business. I don't know the answer to that I'm afraid.

I think the stars and the thumbs are an EW ploy to get people posting again in the hope of getting thumbs and stars. I can't say I particularly like it but it's got this stagnant board moving again so I think it's done its job. I think people will be more put off by tumbleweeds than "nonsense" IMO of course :D

That would make sense but cars aren't stopped at the gatehouse. Anyone entering the community drives past the gatehouse then goes one way for the shops and businesses, and another way to the barriers to the residential areas, so by the time security know you want access to the houses you're already way past the gatehouse. It would make more sense to move the gatehouse to the entrance of the residential area and have the intercom at the access to the overall community and use it only during the night. There you go applying logic and common sense again SD, lol I would go and visit the director of security and point out 101 what needs to happen. I'd need to go to the developer and talk to them. You can imagine how that will go, can't you...?

Arabian Business says this about the one that burned down: "The full name of the Bur Dubai restaurant is Baithal Ravi Restaurant and it serves Pakistani and Indian cuisine. It is not related to another legendary Dubai institution, Ravi's Restaurant in Satwa, which has completely different owners."

It's a very ill thought out system. A friend of mine did this yesterday was told to return to the gatehouse and hand in her ID. Unless she reversed back alone the road, around the roundabout and up to the gatehouse, she would have to drive out of the community, onto the E11, take two u-turns and re-enter the community. She managed to argue her way out of doing that.

Yes it's very boring here these days. I remember the days when a topic would fly off the front page within half an hour. Now it takes 5 minutes to catch up on the days postings. Often in the morning, I open EW, scan down the front page, don't open a single thread, and move onto a different website. Gone are the days of scandal and entertainment...

In certain places, yes. Look on Dubizzle for prices. I don't live in Al Hamra so I'm not overly familiar with prices in that development. Same for travel times, but people say around 45 mins to the English school.

I'm different in that I'm trying to sell my place, not let it out. I've listed with just about everyone :D Darren seems to be trying very hard to find me a buyer, weeds out the time-wasters and keeps me informed - if only to say he's had no response from a prospective buyer. The Better Homes rep in RAK isn't quite as pro-active but he's not a BS-er either.

Sultan's one I would avoid for the same reason. When we listed ours for sale we found that most agents charged around 2% to either the buyer or the seller. Sultan charge 2.5% to both.

Mine is about 3 or 4 years old now and it's never deflated. It's true that they do move/slide around. They're quite small and don't have a very wide/stable base. It's not my choice for the everyday booster but I do like it to travel. DS is coming up 10 and will still use it when we travel in the summer (he's titchy), and has done since he was about 6 years old. I did take DS's full car seat onboard once (that was enough!). I have to argue at check-in to get it on the plane (luckily I'd printed off all the relevant pages from the EK website to wave under the check-in staff's noses. The BubbleBum gets deflated when we arrive at the airport and put in a suitcase pocket so it's easily accessible at the other end.

Moglet, are you thinking of townhouse/villa or an apartment? If it's a villa or townhouse then utilities should be pretty good. If it's an apartment and you have to shoulder chiller charges, well, that's not so good...

Has anyone done a very recent British passport renewal and, if so, how long did it take? I did one back last October and it only took 10 days but as it's coming up to Easter I thought it could take longer. Travelling to Thailand on April 18th and just noticed my passport expires Oct 7th...11 days short of the 6 moths validity. Should I gamble going to the airport or should I gamble sending off my application to the passport office....?! Just a friendly warning.... take a chance by all means - you may be lucky, but please don't expect to get away with it. My son and I got refused at check-in for a flight to Kuala Lumpur two weeks ago for exactly the same reason.

I don't live in Al Hamra (but I do live in RAK). I have friends who have gas cookers. Brothers Gas are the main gas bottle distributors. I'm not particularly struck on RAK Hospital. I have a pregnant friend who will be delivering in Dubai. Rents are cheaper than Dubai. Look in Dubizzle, you'll get a good idea what's available on there.

I don't know if this is relevant but I was booked to travel to Malaysia recently. It said words to the effect of "this booking cannot be upgraded with miles prior to check in" I expected to have to take a chance at the airport that there would be enough seats left to do so but "check in" referred to online check in so I was able to upgrade with my Skywards miles 24 hours before. Learnings.... Try and upgrade at online check in if you get the above message. Adults can upgrade with miles online, children (Skysurfers) have to be upgraded by phone. If you can't fly for any reason (that would be me) cancel your ticket asap so no sector is used. Apply for your refund asap. Once you have your refund you can apply for refund of your Skywards miles that you used to upgrade. Also make sure you have the required amount of time left on your passport or you will be refused at the check in desk :D

We just carry two passports (the new one and the cancelled one with the valid residence visa in it) until the visa expires and get the new visa out in the new passport. I think there is a way to get the visa transferred to the new passport but I don't know anything about it and I'm sure there are costs involved.

I haven't see Ocean Potion anywhere for quite a while. It's my favourite brand. I used to get it in my local Spinneys but they don't carry it any more. I'm interested to see if anyone posts that they've found it. Likewise, if I find it on my travels I'll post.
