Didn't the unthinkable happen and SM got banned? I know of one very popular poster who has said they're done with EW and have stepped away. I find it mostly boring.

I emailed AXA after we had an overseas visitor added to the insurance of one of our vehicles. It was afterwards that we found out that this should never have happened. This is more of the email, if it helps: [i'>The key message is that as long as the police at the time of an accident say the driver without a UAE licenice is covered, then AXA will cover in the event of a claim. My emphasis is on the words at the time of an accident. So, if the police decide should an accident occur that the driver should not have been driving, then AXA will not cover. AXA cannot and should not add any named driver to a policy where they do not hold a UAE licence. It may well help for you to get a letter from the RTA confirming that the driver is ok to drive, however this would be more for your peace of mind and something to evidence to the police in the unfortunate event that something happens. Very simply, the decision about whether we cover would be down to what the police attending an accident decide, and AXA cannot offer you any assurance or guarantees about this.[/i'>

I can see the value in a Miele (and I want one!) but my concern is that in 2-3 years we move to N America and can't take it with us.

My 3 year old F&P washing machine has died. I logged the problem with Better Life and it took 9 days for someone to respond. He was supposed to come at 11am yesterday but didn't show up and when I called in the afternoon he said he'd come at 5pm. I'm still waiting. Given that it took them a couple of months (plus quite a few outright lies from them) to get my dishwasher sorted, I don't want to have to deal with them ever again.

Another vote for Dreamland. It's more dated than Ice Land but cleaner and the staff are more competent.

I went in person to enquire about setting up a company in RAKIA (RAK Investment Authority - a FTZ). It was really easy and I wouldn't pay someone to do it on my behalf.

Thank heavens for Thursdays. As fellow Expat Women (whether some people like to think that way, it's true and we're all they same) what do we think happens that "maids" are the only Expat Women who become "too lazy" and "left to their own devises don't do their job properly"? Very true. I don't have a boss but I'm lazy and skive off all the time. Yesterday I probably should have been doing something constructive with my children but they wouldn't stop bickering so I shut myself in a quiet room with a cup of coffee and played Candy Crush :D Are you me? :D

Contact K9 Friends and RAK AWC. If they don't have room they may be able to advertise them for your friend. RAK AWC will allow them to post on their page asking for a home too.

Thank you both. I've used some hadiths for other points. Are the hadiths part of the Quran or separate? Pardon my lack of knowledge, I'm trying to get a better understanding.

It may well be that you will be sat next to someone also requiring a bassinet, especially if you are in the middle set of seats.

Thanks. I've already seen that site. Everything I see just says that it is forbidden, but not exactly what the Quran says about it. There is a chance I will be asked "Where does it say that?" or "What does it say?" and I want to be able to reply with more than "I don't know, I just know that it's not allowed". I would like to be able to say "This is exactly what the Quran says about using animals to fight".

So I've been told it does need inspection but I don't know where to get it inspected and where to do the renewal process. The investigation goes on... Buster, I was given contact details of someone who can do it all for me but at a huge extra cost. I might try your guy and see what he'd charge, so thanks for that.

I have no idea what this is. A meter was supposedly installed in my bathroom ceiling void (and the stupid b**t**ds pulled my ceiling down and smashed my sink while they were fitting it), but it's not metering MY usage because there isn't any. Some people are getting 2k a MONTH extra as chiller charges.

Not in Dubai, but a similar thing happened in the Al Hamra apartments in RAK. The costs were always swallowed up in the annual maintenance fees but now Al Hamra Real Estate are passing the costs of cooling the communal areas on to the residents. Meters were fitted in the apartments but I don't know how they calculate the charges because all the power and water (and hence a/c) is off but I still get charged chiller fees.
