Have to echo what oopsie said. They're not pretty but if I know I'll be on my feet all day, Birks are my footwear of choice. My DH wears them too so he can't complain :)

The website refers to the cards as "chip enabled" but I have no idea what that means, and the pictures they display are not C&P.

I stopped using salt when my stainless steel cutlery started to rust. Not used salt for about 2 years and it seems to be fine without.

I'll call next week. I'll try and remember to update on here when I've spoken to them. This is the first year it's been a problem. Previously people have looked at the card a bit odd but this is the first time I've had shops say they cannot accept/process it.

Thanks. Have you asked for a chip & PIN? I was planning to when I get back next week but was wondering if anyone - particularly those who've recently received cards - has a C&P card. It's becoming a right pain not knowing if a retailer will accept the card or not.

Absolutely no way would I renew her visa. She's taking the pee big time and it's not as if she's unaware - you've spoken to her and she;s ignored you. The timing is perfect in that her visa is due to be renewed rather than just been renewed. Don't sign yourself up for another year of this - get rid and find someone else.

I haven't checked for a while. I've just looked and got this: "Hi good to meet you here. I decided to write you this short note just to check if you re a real person and maybe we could start a conversation if you don't mind. My name is Micheal Brooks" *sigh* I got one a while ago from a sleazeball. He asked if I lived alone so I said no, I was married with children. He apologised then asked how old I am so I said "Old". He replied, "That's good, because I like old women". I'm not seeing the compliment...

It makes perfect sense to me. I like to have at least 10 dirhams in coins on me at all times. I use them for vending machines, tipping, and a supermarket game. If I gave coins to cashiers every time they asked, I would probably have no coins on me. And it is not so easy to get dirhams for a bill when you try. Most vendors will refuse to even open their drawer. That is what I choose to do. If you are happy to give your coins to cashiers, then that is fine too. Snap.

Don't eat, drink, smoke, chew in public during daylight hours. Dress modestly - knees and shoulders covered in public (this should apply all the time, not just Ramadan). No loud music, even in your car. If you have an alcohol licence I believe the outlets are open throughout the month. My first alcohol licence was processed during Ramadan. (I now live in another Emirate so I can't remember). Alcohol should be served after sunset in those places licensed to serve it (unless it's changed).

I have some cress seeds but that's for the tiny little plants that are wonderful in egg sandwiches :) Watercress I think is a much bigger plant and I don't recall seeing it in the UAE. Apparently arugula/rocket is often used as a substitute.

True but I don't think too many employers here can get past the "I can employ 5 untrained workers straight off the plane from [insert country'> for the same cost as 1 trained employee" mentality.

If you want to breastfeed go ahead and do what you want to do (same goes if you want to express/formula feed). Do whatever feels right for you, don't worry about what other people tell you. Honestly, you will make the best decision :)

I would forbid my staff from asking "Do you have coins, madame?" I Well, if the owners supplied them with enough small change, they wouldn't need to constantly ask us for coins or small bills. This is one thing that you cannot blame the workers on. There is definitely a conspiracy here among the people in charge not to distribute small change since almost every single cashier needs it.... I was in H&M in Dubai Mall ages ago and the man in front of me was charged AED xx4. The cashier asked if he had "four dirhams sir" which he duly coughed up. Mine came to AED xx6 and I was asked if I had "one dear- ham ma'am" I said, "No, but I know you have four because the gentleman in front of me just gave them to you". Nowhere else in the world have I known coins to be so coveted than here in the UAE.

I would insist they come to work with their make-up already on. Boots in MCC made me shudder when three members of staff were putting their make-up on using testers in store at the same time. And yes, yes, yes to the shadowing you round the store. My staff will be trained to be friendly and polite and not to sit on a customer's shoulder. They will also be trained not to suggest the customer needs age-retarding products.

I'm not sure why the sticker says 06 and not 07 (unless the previous owner registered it in June 2012 and then sold it a month later) but I would assume the card is correct. You will need your vehicle reg card to hand. I always make sure I have my insurance and ID to hand. Insurance details are now sent directly to the RTA from your insurance company but it doesn't hurt to have a copy with you. If it's a Dubai plate go to Tasjeel (I use the one near MoE) and you pass through some booths. Give the man in the booth your vehicle reg. card. He;ll give it back to you with a ticket stapled to it. The ticket will have a Q number. You'll get a copy too. Drive through to the test bays and queue up. When I'm next I usually get out. Leave your reg card with the ticket in it. Make sure you have a warning triangle in the car. Leave the keys in the ignition. Take your other ticket with the Q number and go in to the building and wait until your Q number appears. When it does you;ll go to a counter and they'll tell you whether your vehicle passed or failed. You;ll get your keys back here. This is where my memory gets sketchy :) You may have to pay for the test there or go to the desk to the right. You go to the deck to the right for something.... You'll then get a ticket with another number and you go through turnstiles to the section behind these desks. You should get a ladies queue number. When your next number is called you'll give all the docs you've been given plus reg fees and this is where you pay any outstanding fines (on any vehicle you own, not just the one you are re-registering). You then get directed to a desk way down to the left where you'll get your new card. You can pay to have it all done for you ut they've streamlined the process so much it's not worth paying for. Hopefully someone will correct my errors and fill in the gaps. As long as you have money, vehicle registration card, insurance and ID you'll have no rpoblems :)

Personally I wouldn't get pregnant without my husband's blessings. He may come to love the baby as he does with his previous children, but then again he may secretly resent you for going against his wishes. Have you told him how strongly you feel though? Mind you, if he's THAT set against having another child, contraception needs to be his responsibility not yours.

IKEA do not have the loop type cords, they are all hanging strand types. I cut the loops in mine then tied a knot at each end so kids can't fall into the loop.

I remember the Monaco thread Daza!! Lady all proud of her move to a new house in Dubai as it had an additional floor level which would be soooooooo convenient when she has guests around. Second lady casually saying oh we are moving as well - first lady asking where to? - second lady casually saying "to Monaco" - First lady went yellow!!! B**ger I missed that! :D
