Gulf Eye Center in the Fairmont, SZR. Dr Millicent Grim has been recommend on here frequently. I couldn't get an appointment with her for DS so he saw Dr Janice instead, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her either.

I don't know if they have the same model and she's not here to ask. She has a different model to the previous phone that did the same thing. Looks like I might have to call Etisalat and ask for help then,when she gets home. I'll get her to try her SIM in DH's old BB as I have an iPhone so different sized SIM.

Yes. She had the same issues with her last BB, and her friend does too. I've googled and there are suggestions but are network specific, and not Etisalat UAE.

DD's BB (Etisalat) only rings twice before it goes to the automated 'unavailable' message. This means that she frequently doesn't realise she's getting a call. Can anyone please tell me how to increase the number of rings before it cuts off? *BB ignorant*

I've never heard of them but Khasab Travel And Tours' regular price for a full day dhow tour is AED 200 inc lunch and snorkelling (doesn't include transport to Khasab).

Will add to what others have said in that there are no reliable sources in the UAE. However, check Dubizzle or noticeboards as people may be trying to rehome what you're looking for. Failing that, the only way to be sure, I think, is to go overseas, buy from a reputable breeder and bring it back here.

I think it was around 2009 that I was last allowed to be added to my Dad's insurance so it seems it was some time around then the rules changed, perhaps.

That doesn't say anything about driving on a UK licence in the UK whilst resident overseas though. I can understand maybe being advised not to surrender your UK licence whilst overseas - if you return to the UK as a UK resident then maybe it's valid once more? When we moved to Oman we were told we could drive for a year on our UK licences, same when DH moved to the UK - he was told he could drive for a year on his home country licence. The issue riased in earlier posts is driving in the UK on a UK licence when holding residency overseas.

I buy a special baby one from Spinneys in a light blue box, I think it is called Atooni. They also sell one in Babyshop called Purex. I think you can get Purex in Carrefour and Spinneys too. I used that for DS when he was a baby as he had eczema.

What's a temporary resident though? I've been resident in the UAE for 8 years with no idea when I'm leaving yet I'm still a temporary resident. The DVLA are aware I've sold my cars too, but my Dad's insurers still won't put me on his vehicle insurance because I'm not a uk resident. Did the DVLA give you anything in writing to state that your licence was still valid even though you were Qatar residents, because without it I wouldn't want to chance and insurance company paying up. As BB said, it's not down to the hire companies to know the rules and you saying 'temporary resident' may have thrown him. I would also assume the rule for claims for home insurance are different to those for vehicle insurance. <em>edited by Sanddy_Dogg on 01/04/2013</em>

Please also be aware your European driving license will no longer be valid in Europe. If you drive or hire a car in Europe (or anywhere in the world) whilst you are resident in the UAE then you must use your UAE license. Many people have come unstuck on this. edited by RuthM on 31/03/2013 I don't think is advertised enough. I spoke to someone who moved here recently. They had left a job in the UK police force and didn't know this...

I ca't get the EK website to load properly on my laptop but I'm getting AED 4380 into LGW and LHR for those dates on my mobile. Going on expedia.com I'm getting USD 1169 (AED 4293) for the same flights. I heard years ago, and I can't say this is fact, that the seats are sold in blocks, cheapest first. If that's true then it could just be that all the cheaper fares are gone and EK are now selling the next, more expensive, blocks.

Oh, and give it time. I was in northern AB for Christmas and I know the winters are so harsh. Summer is on its way and you can explore the beautiful areas of Alberta. Banff is one of my favourites - it's equally beautiful in the snow or in summer. The Banff National Park is a lovely trip with breathtaking scenery.

She may have had her fish for over a year but my fish who gets fed every day and gets partial water change now and again has been with me for 4 years - and goodness knows how many years before with the EWer who gave him to me when she left the UAE. Please look after him :)

What a pain SD. I suspect a lot of places, if you called 10 times you'd get 10 different replies. Having a standard policy would make things far too easy for everyone wouldn't it? Yep. I was always under the impression that only UAE licence holders can drive private vehicles. It was only when a colleague of DH's said he had his mother added onto his policy that I enquired. I'm cross because I made the exact circumstances very clear and didn't try to mislead my insurers at all. I got a courtesy ema a few days later asking if I was satisfied with the service I received so I've just emailed them back and said "actually, no."

UPDATE: l've just renewed my insurance on this vehicle and decided to ask the question again. I was told this time that for my visitor to drive I would need written confirmation from the RTA which would need to be presented to my insurers for them to cover him. It's a little scary that I made it very clear that my visitor would be entering on a Tourist Visa, held a Canadian licence and would only need cover for 1 month. The lady dealing with this asked me for a copy of his licence which I sent on to her and she sent me back a revised policy document stating he was covered. It would be nice if the people on the other end of the phone knew their s**t!! Mind you she got the chassis number wrong on another vehicle and held up the registration process.

I have an email trail where I have sent a copy of the licence and they have sent the same back with a copy of the policy stating: "It is hereby agreed that XXXXXXXX is holding a license valid for driving in the United Arab Emirates and while driving the insured vehicle will be covered by the policy terms and conditions which are applicable to the contract. Name: XXXXXXXX Date of Birth: XX/XX/XXXX

The fish market in Deira has an area that will clean fish and seafood for you at a price, but they don't cook for you. You need to know the price of what you want to buy so go to Carrefour or Spinneys first and jot down the prices because you'll find the vendors at the fish market will want to charge you more than C4/Spinneys prices. Watch them, too. Make sure they take seafood fresh from the top of the pile and don't dig around the old cr.ap at the bottom of the pile.
