The big Deira market with the fish/meat/fruit & veg and date market has its own big car park. You'll have no trouble parking there. It's just about on the right hand entrance to the Creek if you look on Google Earth, not in the depths of Deira itself :)

You may well be right, AA, sadly enough. By the way, this accident happened at a U-turn. I don't think other vehicles were involved as such, but from the skidmarks it looks (to me) like she swerved to avoid a vehicle that had shot out of the U-turn right in front of her. I'm extra vigilant approaching them now. Unfortunately RAK still has a huge amount of U-turns. They have improved the main road into RAK from Emirates Road and got rid of all but one U-turn but those that remain elsewhere, especially on 100kph roads, are still deadly.

DD's friend died along with her mother who was driving, and a family friend in the back (one of three sisters; the other two survived, and I hope are on the road to recovery). Her poor brother has lost his mother and his sister. It's so sad that this kind of story isn't so unusual here.

This was backed up by DD's 14 year old friend dying in the front passenger seat last week :( The only survivors were in the back seat) How terrible. How are the kids taking it? OK now, but the weekend and the first few days at school were very hard. It happened right outside where we live and there are still personal belongings at the site so it's a tough reminder.

I take back what I said about adults being safer in the back. However RoSPA states that children are safer in the back [url=http://www.rospa.com/faqs/detail.aspx?faq=348'>rospa[/url'>

We're burning cut-up pallets but yes, they burn wood. ETA quite a few places sell little bundles of logs that do just fine. edited by Sanddy_Dogg on 17/01/2013

It's dangerous for an adult to sit in the front seat? Actually, yes. The safest place to sit is in the back seat (driver excepted of course). This was backed up by DD's 14 year old friend dying in the front passenger seat last week :( The only survivors were in the back seat)

I don't know why, but it just seems so much harder on the eyes to read. I'm not complaining about the font size, for me that's fine. Maybe it's just too much white. Dunno. It does mean I won't be able to spend as long mooching through the posts. Much to DH's delight.

It seems the death toll is 'relatively' low. I truly hope it stays that way, and that those injured make a full recovery.

IT goes against nature! It is automatic to go to the top right to add a post NOT the left !!!!! Quote doesn't work. ? It doesn't distinguish what was quoted and what was written. Your message which I quoted all looks like it was written by me. OMG! Can you imagine what a mess this will be when the multi-quoters get going? This is obviously a temporary thing and it will be back to normal soon. No-one would change a forum to something that was so incredibly difficult to fudge your way through, or even read. Would they?

It [i'>can[/i'> be done here, in a few places (and not backstreet holes either). Otherwise a day trip to Marie Stopes in your summer UK holiday might be an option :)

My understanding is that this would be illegal. I believe only UK residents are entitled to a UK driving licence. It was said on here that we are actually supposed to swap our UK licences for a UAE one, just that the UAE don't bother to collect them.

Glad to hear it, Ayzzy, but that was a 'private' event. You were enforcing it, not the law-makers or enforcers. Same as out in public, those that are supposed to enforce, seemingly, are not.

Skoki, that's beside the point. As Lolacat said, there was a ruling passed several years ago about banned breeds, and those that must be muzzled in public. I've never heard of it being enforced though.
