I was expecting this thread to be about Madonna and the vile outfit she was wearing on stage recently.

I'm another one who would say don't move. Life in Dubai can be tough on [i'>any[/i'> marriage, but one that's got a lot of problems to start with will be very hard to make work. It sounds like your DH isn't that committed to you or the marriage but expects you to be there for him. How about telling him to go start his new job and you'll follow in 6 (or whatever) months time to make sure that the job suits him before you all up-sticks and move half-way around the world. You'll have some space from him to decided what's best for you and your family, hopefully with support around you. Good luck whatever you decide to do. edited by Sanddy_Dogg on 22/11/2012

It's no literary delight but it's ok. I don't find it particularly erotic either. I've only tried the first book and managed to read some in the dentist's waiting room without collapsing into a puddle.

A bit disappointing I thought it might have been something a bit juicy ;) Yes, me too. I did wonder if the post was going to say "My husband is having an affair with another woman and [b'>her husband is cabin crew[/b'>!" We did have similar name-and-shame thread once but it got deleted (no cabin crew as far as I remember though :) )

Sorry Buttercup, didn't see your earlier post. No, not for good. DH and I agreed between us that Christmas is a harsh time to visit (growing children need a full set of winter clothes each time and are limited to how much time they can safely spend outdoors) so would make future visits in the summer only.

My DD is 13. As she is past puberty I expect her to adhere to the same dress code I do, ie. nothing above the knee, no shoulders exposed and nothing too clingy.

It should be a white Christmas. Great for the kids, but I'd rather be here on the boat lol! It will be clear blue skies and sunshine every day but it will still be pitch black at 8am and then the same again about 3pm (they're VERY far north). After that we will revert to summers in Canada where the kids will refuse to sleep until it gets dark (after 11pm) and we will hand them over to the inlaws to deal with because we want to go to bed at 10pm...

We've said this will be our last Christmas in Canada. The weather here is just too nice to miss (and there's so much going on).

I have everything insured through AXA and have for years. I find them competitive and easy to deal with. I've had one claim (motor) and it was dealt with quickly and efficiently.

Have you ever tried to sell anything in the small ads ?? you know how soul destroying it is to have every single person try to haggle ? lol [b'>I only wanted 100 dhs off just because I'd be getting to her and back via taxi[/b'> and she lives very far from my in JBR. I'm not one of those callers offering half the price. Anyway the discount was the first thing I asked and then dropped it. I wanted the cot so I moved onto other things I wanted to know about it. Sheesh. ONLY 100 dhs ??? :\: not her fault you need a taxi... sorry... [b'>Do you understand that it had nothing to do with the discount ?[/b'> *confused*

RuthM, thank you so much for taking the time to write all that - it's certainly taught me a lot I didn't know. I shall read through your post a good few more times until I'm clearer about what would be most suitable. Thanks again :)

I also keep lemongrass which comes in a jar handy in case C4 is out of stock--I purchase the jar at Waitrose. Good plan, I often don't need as much lemongrass as I've paid for so I end up throwing some away.

Oh gawd, this is bizarre, a friend of mine has commented on your dilemma "elsewhere" LOL! If you remember our Africa exchanges then you'll know who I am. lol how funny. Are you going to their party? Yes, probably, I live quite close to them. Are you? You should, then I can place myself close to your DH and talk very loudly about the rescue shelter I'm involved with and how lovely it is for all parties when a lovely dog gets homed with a lovely family and another dog :D

SD we did grill BH about her meeting with you!! [b'>*gulp*[/b'> What's everyone's tipple? We're running low but managed a nice bottle of red. White wine here. DH went shopping yesterday so the fridge and bar is fully stocked. BH, my stepmum makes G&T in pint glasses so she doesn't have to get up so often ;) BBQ for dinner here. Long weekends, lovely weather (with akshull blue skies), lazy days, kids and dogs playing outside, a glass of chilled something and a BBQ. Can't beat the UAE right now...

One of my friends went up Emirates Road (E311) and turned off to the Truck Road signposted to the Banyan Tree Al Wadi. Follow signs to Miramar Al Aqah all the way. It took me an hour from where I exited E311 onto the truck road to the Miramar (from which Snoopy Island is visible). As El1 said, it can be disappointing. The last time some of my friends went, their belongings were run over on the beach.

Lego is one of the best toys, DS spends hours playing with it. He's building up a good collection of basic stuff - different sizes and colours of blocks, windows, doors, wheels, people etc and comes up with some pretty inventive models. Now to get the dog to stop stealing it...

Amazon and Shop & Ship for Lego. The prices charges here are ridiculous. Last Christmas I S&S'd in a big plastic box of Lego - it was still cheaper than buying it here.
