Felix Baumgartner prepares for record-breaking space jump from 120,000feet! You can watch the live broadcastwould you believe @ 4.30pm today on redbullstratos. Imagine it will be like watching the moon landing.. So in other words, he is committing suicide, yes? Possibly, yes. Or it really could be another moon landing where a large number of people don't believe it really happened...

We had 3 last night and 4 the night before (or maybe the same one several times :) ) As I'm closer to Iran than you southerners I did wonder what was going on.

What was fly-gate? Hehehhee a OP was appalled by not getting a bottle of water replaced after a fly flew in the bottle after purchasing and drinking from it. Ohhhhhhh, yes!! I do remember that one :D

Taken from Etihad's website (Prohibited Items): "• Open razors and blades (excluding safety or disposable razors with blades enclosed in cartridge)" Virgin and BA mention only blades, not razors. Your common or garden BIC razor is fine.

Only if it has a removable blade, it would seem.

What about disposable type razors? ETA Just looked on EK's website and you can't carry razor blades or straight razors (a la Sweeney Todd). As male BC passengers get a disposable razor in their washbags, one would assume they are allowed. edited by Sanddy_Dogg on 07/10/2012

Direct: Emirates. One stop: Korean, Singapore, Singapore/Qantas, Emirates/Qantas, Cathay Pacific, Emirates/Korean, Emirates/Thai, Etihad. Two stops: China southern. Price depends on which airline/s you choose and when you fly. edited by Sanddy_Dogg on 07/10/2012

Places like Minutes have Toyota keys and they can copy/cut them very quickly. I'm not sure if they will work or if you will need to get the key programmed. I ordered a new key from Toyota, got it cut at Minutes but it doesn't work, and won't, until I get it programmed. I'm not sure if anyone apart from the dealer can programme a key. Hopefully if someone has had it done they will answer on this thread.

If you're coming on a visit visa I guess hotel apartments are the way to go. I've stayed in Oaks Liwa Heights in JLT which is the opposite side of Sheikh Zayed Road to the Marina and they are great places. Th Radisson opposite also has places. If you google I'm sure you;ll find loads of places. If you can find a job, great but don't expect to start up on your own straight away and make money. You need a licence to work for yourself. I'm no expert on what licence you would need, how long it would take to get and how much it would cost but there are ladies on here who can help with questions. There are also ladies who can help you know where to look for a job, recruitment agencies etc but don't be surprised if you don't just step straight into a job, it seems the job market isn't great here either right now. Good luck!

i was probably 1 out of 100 who got hassle so don't worry. If I can't get this border issue sorted then it will be them I would use as they are a known quantity (and I know what to be aware of LOL!)

<whispers> It was Khasab Tours who were a pain ;) I was hoping it was just the Dibba crossing as reported recently. I saw nothing about the RAK crossing but from what shelly and deckname have said it seems to affect both.

Shelly, thanks for the info but we had a bit of a nightmare with an agent last time and the dhow operator said we could book directly through him. I'd like to do that but I'm not sure that what I would get from him would be "official" enough to get us through the border.

He's got quite a field of expertise there, hasn't he? Not a chance I'd trust him with any of my problems especially boy/girlfriend problems (happily married, so hypothetical problem in my case :) )

Yes, think that's true. I went this weekend and we had to have a hotel booking and submit passport numbers etc in advance. At the border we were on a list and the border patrol ticked off our names. Was this entering Oman from the Ras Al Khaimah border?

I was hoping to book an entire dhow for a group trip, direct with the operator. Doesn't look like I'll be able to do that if I can't get official confirmation.

Racked my brains, but can't work out what AF means, presume an abbrevation of a euphemism for a period? Or a social disease, or...? "Aunt Flo" Slang for period.

Really? I'd seen the scandal whipped up in the Daily Mail but not seen that. There were a few articles not so long ago by a woman claiming to be JS's lovechild from a two-week fling. She said she wasn't after his money but wanted to have it proven she was his child. I'll bet she's not so keen now.

Julie at Clarity in G&DP. I saw her recommended on here several times and had a ring made earlier this year. I took in a picture of what I wanted and got exactly that.

I find Carrefour stuff not-too-bad generally and certainly wouldn't expect so much to go off overnight. It should be good for several days. Of course, you'll get the rogue item that is at death's door when you go through the checkout, but not everything.

I had to have a ring cut off so would like to get it fixed and resized at the same time. It is not convenient for me to leave and collect another day so would like to have it done in a morning if possible. Can anyone recommend someone who can do this please? G&D Park would be good :)
