I think "up" too. Up to the entrance to them there nucular bunkers. The photos are just random photos posted by people - they can post them anywhere in the world; it doesn't mean they were taken at the location they are posted in. errr NO, this photo had caption, here it is: george wimpey, range rover, toyota land cruiser and me with loads of hair. dubai, uae. 1983. No, my point is that just because a photo appears on Google Earth, it doesn't mean that it was taken at the exact place that it appears on. Photos are added by members of the public, they're not official. Anyone can create an account with Panoramio and add photos to Google Earth - to where ever they please. That photo you mentioned was probably taken in that area but as it was taken in 1983 I would imagine it was taken with a camera without GPS so the placing of the photograph on Google Earth was 'best guess'.

Yes, they are cats and dogs currently at RAK Animal Welfare Centre needing homes. This is to do with my "Party Bags" thread. I put sweets and lollipops in the bags but instead of putting a toy in (which is usually cr@p and doesn't last the day) I have instead chosen to donate to the shelter. I have given enough to feed each animal for two days.

He's not having a party to stock up on gifts. His birthday is not for a few weeks and he's sad that he's never been able to have a party with all his school friends like most other kids as most of them are out of the country by the time his birthday comes around. Being able to share it with friends is what's important to him. He hasn't even mentioned gifts. I'm not really sure I understand your comment [i'>"We are not selling a service of entertainment in return for gifts."[/i'> when in an earlier post you said [i'>"It really loses meaning when you are receding material goods as gifts but your return gift is a donation to charity."[/i'>. To me that sounds like I have to reciprocate their material gift with one of my own. When I've already paid out to entertain and feed them, surely that's enough? If they are concerned that the gift that THEIR child takes away from MY child's party is not sufficient then they are, of course, at liberty to not attend.

Ummm...years? Figure out where you live (or will be living) and search/ask on here for hospitals with GOOD emergency rooms and where they are in relation to where you live. Get recommendations for good paediatricians and GP's and fid the location for those. I would highly recommend buying the Explorer Dubai Atlas (the big book one, not the fold-out one) and mark the locations on the pages in red pen. Stick notes on it with the map numbers for the hospitals and doctors so you know at a glance which page to go to. Take a morning and drive to the hospitals and doctors so you have an idea where they are. Once you know these places exist and have an idea where they are, then some of the fear is removed.

Irooni, as PennyLane says, the kids get to spend two hours being entertained, painted and fed at my expense. They still go away with a party bag (which I think is a bonus, not a right). Also, here, many kids come to parties empty handed anyway. Interesting to hear all opinions though as I did wonder it it was maybe not the right thing to do :) Solo, that's wonderful!

That was my thought, October. My DS eats the sweets then the rest of it goes in the bin, often untouched. I'd rather put my money into something I support than in other people's bins.

Good idea, AA - need to check the stapler for staples :) It's for an animal charity and each bag has a card with a photo of the animal, the animal's name, the amount donated on their behalf and how many days that donation will feed the animal for. Or i could sling a burger in each bag :D

Why would passport control even know you have them? They'll be in your luggage or your carry on, won't they? I'm not sure if you'll have to declare them, I guess it would be the same as shipping human ashes overseas.

School for sure. Poor schooling (or not enough places in good schools) is a reason a lot of people leave Dubai, or send their kids out to boarding school. No way would I choose the "Dubai lifestyle" (what [i'>is[/i'> that, anyway?) over a damned good education.
