To be fair, mine is about 10 years old but it's so heavy and cumbersome. It's not the upright either. i have two different heads and neither of them lift dog hairs from the rugs so I have to do the rugs with a long-handled scrubbing brush first then vacuum over the top to lift dust. Will look into Miele. Does anyone have recommendations for a model that is good on tiles as well as pet hairs on rugs?

You can pay a company to do all this for you so i'm sure going through them you could do this quite easily. They have their office at the entrance of the Al Barsha test centre. Certainly worth a call. But not without the owner or POA. All it does it saves you having to present a few documents.

Derien, I'm a big Apple fan and I love the way their products work but sadly I have to agree with you in some of what you've said. I do wish they'd release products that have been tested thoroughly, and them some more. How long between the iPad 2 and the New iPad? I think the technology behind their products, and the way they interact with each other is brilliant but the hardware lets them down and it doesn't have to be so.

I don't know why people continue to buy Apple products at all. They are very bad quality. It's all a marketing scam!!!! Buy good quality products that last over trying to own the latest Iphone, or mac etc... Jeez Preference. We've had as many (or more) non-Apple products fall on their @rses. Our PC's are certainly no more reliable than our Macs and DH's BlackBerrys have been no more reliable that my iPhone. I do agree with Tiki that they don't seem to spend enough time on testing. Apple seem to be too keen on pumping new products out asap and it's the little niggles that let them down.

Thanks ladies. Does my husband need to be in the country to transfer the car to me? How can I get an apostilled power of attorney? Wikkid - i will take a good price on my husband. He comes highly recommended ;) I would imagine it's a 'yes' to both. I would also imagine there's a cost to both, you would need to work out which is cheaper as the cost to transfer the vehicle to you is the same as the cost to transfer to a new buyer. It can be done in less than an hour.

LOL! I haven't actually done it yet. I was going to go on Friday but simply couldn't be bothered as we were so busy. Im going in a few weeks as part of a group and my friend who's been a few times before is organising it - perfect! I can tell you she uses Khasab travels & Tours and they've quoted AED 200 per adult and AED 100 per child (4 -12 years) for a full day cruise.

In that case Dilys, I would look into Dubai (if that's the Emirate in which you or your husband would be working). I think UAQ may be a little too remote for a first-time expat.

No. Two families work in RAK, the other works in Dubai. I guess the Al Hamra Spinneys is about 20 mins away.

What do your friends think of it sandy. Like or not. Yes they do, actually. One family is finding it a bit tough because their kids are at school and as there are no international schools in UAQ it's a heck of a school run. The other two don't have school-aged kids and really like it.

If you're still looking at UAQ, check out the Marina, an Emaar development. It's a bit isolated but I know three western expat families living there.

I used a company called Bedwat :), they're ok but not cheap. Possibly not the best value for money, but they cleaned, serviced and repaired our units. Call Bilal on 055 450 7179/050 680 1805. Another recommended to me is 0558200480 (don't have a name)

We've got DD's for both our cars. We pay out quite large termly school fees using online banking as well. No prob. Well that's good for you and while we had a car LOAN we were able to do a monthly payment but with a car lease you DO have to sit in there and write out all the cheques and hand them over as a guarantee. Of course you can do school payments. The fact that some things can be done online doesn't negate the fact that there ARE some things you cannot do without a cheque here. edited by spongemonkey on 27/04/2012 We can do most things by DD/SO but we get charged for the privilege of doing so, hence why our cheque book still gets used too.

Got dh one for xmas... He loves it, and some of the footage especially on an Abu Dhabi run is hilarious! Very funny clips from tantrum alley ride at Wild Wadi, the screaming then was priceless... Sue, the new one has recording lights on all (or most) sides now. We have 3 other cameras including a DSLR for "naice photos" :) Think Amazon will get a visit this morning. UNLESS.....anyone knows how much they are here?

I have a friend who joined me for a swim (on a private beach) in a pair of budgie smugglers recently. I feel I now know him just a little bit more than I need to... LOL!! I wouldn't know where to look !! Well, I would, but....... LOL! But he's a friend, not some random stranger. It's just not right.

If you feel you can ay your goodbyes without attending the funeral then that's fine. But.... if you feel you [u'>want[/u'> to be there then I think you should go. I didn't go to my Step-Nan's funeral and regretted it and made sure I didn't miss out when my Nan died last year. Do what's right for YOU, and you only.

You can ask, but if you're offering the services of a maid who will not be sponsored by the person who employers her then it's illegal. If you want to recommend a good maid who's looking for a new employer and sponsor then that's fine. This thread may well get moved to the Maids forum, so don't be alarmed if it disappears.

On EK it says N/A under seat and meal selection. I might call BA and ask. I'm a nervous flyer and prefer to sit as far forward as poss. I also want to make sure we're seated together because although DD is booked as an adult she's still only 13 and I would prefer her to be with DS and I.

Great, thanks for that. Its basically somewhere to crash for the night. DH is suggesting HIlton resort (our usual weekend away stay), but I think it will be a waste if we have been all day at the water park.Will look into all options but at least I have somewhere to start, thank you! I also think the Hilton (if you mean the resort and spa) is quite far from Iceland. Both Hiltons are actually in town (about a 15-20 minute drive), whereas the Hamra Complex is on the same stretch of road as Iceland. I think the Rotana Cove is also on that same stretch of road but pricier. I've seen deals on booking.com for the Hamra Village for 600 Dhs bed and breakfast for a junior suite. It's nothing super fancy like the Hilton, but will definitely do the job. ETA I think there are Iceland vouchers in The Entertainer as well. edited by SEY83 on 19/04/2012 edited by SEY83 on 19/04/2012 Al Hamra hotels are about 5/6 mins drive from IceLand. The Cove Rotana is about 10 mins. Hilton beach is about 25 mins and the Hilton near Manar Mall is about 20 mins.

We had similar experience doing ours in RAK (despite the typing centre getting 2 out of our 4 nationalities wrong). While we were there we were getting sms's giving us appointments over a month later miles away. When I questioned it I was told to ignore them and go into the ID centre next to the typing office and we were fingerprinted etc straight away. I got one sms last week telling me that DH's card was with a courier despite us asking to have the cards delivered to out local post office. When I went into the PO the guy there told me to ignore the sms and wait for sms's from Emirates Post to tell us our cards are ready.

I'm not sure if they do curtains, but there's a tailors in Al Jazeera, right behind the post office. It's next door, or next door-but-one to Modern Laundry (to the left). It looks like two separate shops but they're joined inside. I've had them make clothes and I've been pleased with their work and their price. The only place I know that specialises in curtains is between the clock roundabout and dhow roundabout, on the sea side. It's a little shop called Erfan. They're "ok". There'll be places in Nakheel if you can be bothered to drive up there and trawl around.

As you know, you can visit a different doctor for every ailment if you wish. Chicken pox does not require a visit to the doctor unless there are complications or you need a letter.
