If you go back and read my orignal post you will see that this thread was started to ask if children who have been vaccinated against CP can still get it. <em>edited by Sanddy_Dogg on 26/01/2012</em>

Oooh, you reminded me - kid's toothpaste! Toilet rolls, kitchen towel, bread, juice? Washing powder, fabric conditioner, toilet cleaner, washing up liquid, soap? But I need to feed them all something......sigh. Can I make Tide and Downy soup? Absolutely. Much cheaper than going to a clinic for colonic cleansing.

Although it looks like either medication will do the job, is it really the pharmacist's call to change meds from what a doctor has prescribed without at least informing the patient or person collecting the script?

I would certainly inform security that had found it, probably give a picture but I would be concerned that the ring might 'disappear' once handed in.

Every reason is valid. I'm not religious but I still try do do what I think is morally right. Many people have no morals whatsoever but behave themselves for fear of the consequences should they be caught.

Sorry to divert this thread but is the chicken pox vaccine done in two doses? I got the impression that it is done at 18 months and again at 5 years. Is there someone who could answer this for me? I was just about to answer and say no, only one dose but then I read Scaralex's post. DS had his vaccination over 5 years ago so it looks lke it might be CP. He only has a handful of spots but they look like CP to me.

This is what I'm wondering. He complained of headache and sore eyes yesterday and has had rises in temperature. He's done a bit of manflu moaning and groaning too, but has also spent a fair amount of time outside paying, so not really sick. Welcome back, by the way ;)

SD, how much are you looking for? There are Indian restaurants in Discovery Gardens which sell it, that might be closer, if it's a flask full i'm sure they will fill it up for you. Otherwise they definitely sell it by the cup. Is that closer? Otherwise Satwa, Karama, Bur Dubai - any little cafe! i think she wanted to make it at home. Yep! HH, CB & TL will be my first port of call but I'll bear them in mind if i don't find what i want.

Thanks Ladies. Spice souk is too far out for me, but thanks anyway. Next time I take visitors there I'll look out for it. Next time I'm in a Dubai mall with a CB &TL I'll be sure to get some. You're right, the Lipton stuff is awful - a little sachet of chemicals.

Is there anywhere that sells ready-mixed chai please? I'm after the leaves with the spices already mixed in it which you boil up and leave to brew, not the powdered stuff from Lipton. TIA.

Yep, I think you just saw what you think you just saw. The first time I saw that in Muscat I laughed because I thought the tractor thing was about to blow apart. I eventually realised that it was belching smoke out on purpose. They used to do it when we were in the Lakes too, but I think they put signs up a few days before.

I find your post a little judgemental, Fulla. She didn't ask for any old maid to palm her kids off onto; she mentioned she wanted someone to "help take care of...". By mentioning her children have special needs it sounds like the OP is looking for someone suitable and experienced. She also mentioned a teacher....

Thanks PMD :) I did say the food would probably be spicy. She said she'd take her own lol! There are layovers in Mumbai both ways, I think about 5 hours on the way back. They are cheaper than anyone else (except maybe Gulf Air) by quite a it, and that's important to my mum.

Sibille, try looking on the Maids forum, most maids thread end up there so you should find the answer to your question there, hopefully quite easily. Good luck! :) ETA try typing the words "agency" or "agencies" into the search function and you may have some luck. <em>edited by Sanddy_Dogg on 22/01/2012</em>

Don't be fooled, they're being monitored. There are quite a few posters on here who know people who've been caught hiring illegal maids. One poster got into trouble herself (through maid's deviousness, no fault on her own part). I know someone who ended up in court with a big fine. Maids will continue to play roulette with their livellihoods because they see no further than the dollar signs. Take an illegal maid if you wish but don't complain when she clears you out and you have absolutely no recourse.

I have been to see friends at Al Hamra apartments...the view is breath-taking, the buildings have their own private beach...its right next to the Marina with a few restaurants open there and even an A&E. It is VERY relaxing. I think that buying an apartment/villa there for the holidays or weekends (if you can afford it) is Great. There are a lot of people who are already living there! Mostly expats...Somehow, the whole pace of things seems to be much slower in RAK *sigh* We bought a studio in Al Hamra Marina as a weekend getaway then ended up buying a villa (not in Al Hamra) which is now our family home :)

You'll need to check the utility costs in the Cove. I read a year or so ago that electricity for the villas there was charged at an incredibly high rate. ETA Quoted from The National (allegedly) onto SkyScraper City "[i'>On top of an electricity bill that can reach up to Dh48,000 a year, residents must pay a management fee of Dh12 per square foot."[/i'> Utility charges are a concern in many new developments, including Al Hamra (the oldest of the freehold ones) because many properties are not FEWA supplied so get charged at a much higher rate. <em>edited by Sanddy_Dogg on 22/01/2012</em>

Maybe not a bad idea then. They only lace I know in UAQ is the Marina (an Emaar development). I don't know what facilities are there but if you have kids and want a non-local school you will have to travel to RAK or Sharjah. Developments to buy in RAK are Al Hamra (townhouse, villas, apartments), Mina Al Arab (townhouses, villas, apartments to start handing over next month) and Bab Al Bahr (soem handed over, some still ongoing). These are what I can think of for now...

I think it depends on how long you are planning to own it for. Property in RAK is dirt cheap right now which is great if you want to buy and keep, cr.ap if you're only looking short-ish term as I think it will be several years before property prices recover. Hunt & Harris have plenty of properties on their books but dealing with them makes me want to stick pins in my eyes. Better Homes did have some, their RAK agent is a decent enough guy to deal with. HSBC mortgage properties on some of the developments in RAK.

A few years ago I read a list of traffic offences and their associated fines/punishments. Jumping a red light was one of the most serious.

Just tried to call the Garden Centre and got greeted by a recorded message telling me to call within the trading hours of 8am 10pm. Not impressed when I'm calling at 10.15am. :( Someone tried ACE recently and said there were none left. ETA called again, held on until message telling me to call within working hours was done then got connected to a real person. <em>edited by Sanddy_Dogg on 21/01/2012</em>
