Yes, you're right - I have set my mind to saying something, although I'm not quite sure what sound advice I should be following as no two people have said the same thing. ETA I was going to delete my posts on this thread and explain why, but I might as well just do the explaining bit instead. I can see that some people might be tempted to 'allude' to the not wearing of the seatbelt bit, others wouldn't say a thing. Maybe it's none of my business, but this is a friend who was very pro-child restraints and now it seems she's not. One poster said they wouldn't say anything unless it was their child unbuckled - my POV is that if they don't restrain their own kids in their car what reassurance do I have that they'll bother ensuring my own kids are strapped in should they have them in their car? Also, I don't want my kids in a car with unrestrained kids who could turn into loose cannons in an accident. That's me. I fully accept that others have a different stance to me, but I did ask what would others do, not what I should do. As I said, the hair was blowing a lot - it would have to be gale force to do that if the car was stationary. This is a big deal to me. I am fuly aware I can lose a friend over this, and I have asked if her child is belted in now. I think I'd rather shame her into safety, than keeping a friend who I would no longer trust to transport my own children (if it comes to that).

how can you tell that the car was actually moving ? if your friend was the driver she won't have been able to take the photo unless they had stopped... if she was the passenger then you may still not be able to tell.... if it bothers you that much then say something but i don't think i would unless i could be 100% certain the car was moving... The photo is very clearly taken from the passenger's seat (the back of the driver's seat is in the shot). I commented that it looked windy as her child's hair was blowing about and she replied to say the window was open. I could lose a friend over this.

That's just it, she's one of my best friends. I can't see her taking it in good spirit; if she's decided it's ok to not insist on her kids putting their seatbelts on any longer then I can't see her appreciating my 'criticism'. she used to be so upset by people not strapping their kids in. My fingers keep hovering over the keyboard to type something in but I stop myself.

Not for a couple of years. For the past year or so I've been bringing them in/getting my visitors to bring them in for a friend of mine who makes soup with them. I really don't know why they're not available here - the Maggi/Knorr stock cubes are just so greasy.

Interesting in that the crotch of underwear is not technically a gusset - but I guess non-sewers might not be aware;) - as a matter of general information, a gusset is usually a triangular shaped piece inserted usually in the underarm area (OK maybe not quite so "intimate" as the crotch :\: but not necessarily attractive) to make arm movement easier. I can see why either location might be distasteful ;) I've heard of it in sewing terms and it doesn't bother me at all, but in the context on being the material insert in underwear I detest it. It must be a British thing because 'gusset' is commonly used as an underwear term. "It is what it is" is one that boils my p***. DH uses it and I can't help counteracting with "As opposed to 'it is what it isn't' " Of course it ******* well is what it is!!

Words that irritate me: "moist" "nom-nom" "end of" "epic" (especially when combined with the word "fail") "darl" How funny, you just reminded me of an ex-boss whose [b'>favourite [/b'>word was moist! We used to talk about onomatopaeia (words that sound like they're meaning) so my favourite was WRETCHED. Just love how it evokes the emotion even when you're just saying it! But that's another thread entirely... I love the word INDULGE, it's even luxurious to say :)

why does gusset make you shudder SD? I'm only familiar with it as a tailoring/sewing term - and it certainly isn't used in a rude way (or a rude area) in that context. I'm not sure. Gusset is also the cotton piece in the CROTCH of ladies underwear so maybe it's the thought of a 'moist gusset' that makes my teeth itch.

Can anyone get one, regardless of age? When I was born, many moons ago, the short one was free and the long one cost extra. As my Dad was tasked with sorting out the birth certificate he opted for the freebie only. I spent a while thinking I was adopted. I thought it was probably too long ago to get the full version.

We changed schools when we moved. I am seriously considering changing schools again next year because the one they're in is cr@p. It would mean them going to another Emirate and driving about 45 mins each way. The school they're currently in is a non-profit school and it reminds me of the schools I went to 25 years ago. The one I'm considering is a for-profit school but has better facilities and a better reputation.

In her OP she mentioned guests showing up with Duty Free bags so she said she assumed they were overseas visitors. I guess one could also assume it was alcohol in the bags. If I was subjected to regular noise at unsociable hours despite repeated requests to turn it down, would I call the police? Yes. Would I mention alcohol? I had the same problem (except I'm registered with a US account). I sent them an email saying I was registered with a US account and oculdn't download content in the UK, Germany, Canada or even the US so it was pretty much useless to me. They emailed back to say I had to call rather than try and resolve over email which I haven't done. I did download a book straight to my Kindle without using a computer last week so I don't know whether someone in Amazon pushed the right button.

We got a banker's cheque from the buyer. It still took a couple of days to clear but it was pretty much guaranteed so we did the transfer on receiving the cheque.

Eeeeek! Worth travelling to RAK for - this was 2 days ago (Sunday). I have no idea what it would have cost if we'd got it done at a private hospital. The malaria tablets recommended by the vaccination department at the hospital cost AED 34.50 for 6 at a pharmacy in Mirdif CC.

Have you tried the government hospitals? We live in RAK and called (the private) RAK Hospital who were out of stock but managed to get it done at the government hospital, Saqr Hospital, within 30 minutes of showing up, and for AED 20.

we are in palmera 4 too. I am taking the kids to some friends but leaving our nanny with a big basket of treats so our light will be on ! Reminded me of a friend. A few years ago it was her maid's first ever Hallowe'en so she had no idea what it was all about. She left a big bag of candy and told the maid to give it to kids when they knocked and shouted "Trick or treat!".
