I have an HSBC credit card, and I shop quite a bit at Spinneys so it's money I'll have spent anyway therefore I won't turn them down. I agree though, it's not worth expending extra effort to earn them.

Did you pay commission? If not, they probably use a very unfavourable exchange rate.

Just watched episode 1 :) Had to go back to the beginning to catch up with what Kate had been tasked to do and why. All clear now. I'm also curious to know how the purser got her hair cut on the way to her flight.

Add food colouring to your icing. You may need to mix a couple of colours together to get the right colour though.

Dr Yamini- welcare knowledge village Seconded. I saw her about 2 or 3 years ago and liked her. I recommended her on here a year ago and I'm pleased to see she's still at Welcare.

A bit over-budget but this is a nice one. http://www.liveworkexplore.com/shop/telling-tales:-an-oral-history-of-dubai/711 My Mum fell in love with it so I let her take it home last trip.

Can't help you, but it would also make natty gifts to get family photos put on fridge magnets. I hope someone can answer you as I'd be interested to know too.

Head towards Hatta on the E44. That road will take you through the border and onto Sohar, whic is on the way to Muscat. Can't help with the other questions I'm afraid.

Quite easily. If she steals from you, you can't report her. If you do, you're in trouble for employing her illegally. ll it takes is one person to grass you or her up and you're in the mire. Also, maids get spot-checked.

Please don't expect anyone to share their maid with you. It's illegal and can land you both with a fine of up to AED 100,000. Hopefully someone can recommend an agency who can fulfill all your needs.

I think the best thing to do is to call them, tell them the situation and ask for clarification. I would call their HK or UK branch as well as the local office and compare answers - I don't have a huge amount of confidence in what I get told here :)

Also, are you sure your DH's residence visa is still valid if he was made redundant? Why did the company not cancel his visa when they laid him off? I don't know if you can (I wouldn't say "trust", more "rely") on the answer you get from immigration but unfortunately, as you know, the answer you get is probably the best you will get. I would call twice though in the hope you speak to different people each time and compare answers - or you call once and your DH call once.

Thanks, I've had similar experience in the past. This is for items bought overseas, so didn't belong to us to start with, and so there's a monetary value attached. The shippers require money but I don't know if that's for customs or if this is why I'd need a clearing agent. Oh well, guess I'll find out on Thursday.

It's about an hour to the roundabout where you enter RAK (and would turn right to go towards RAK City) if you stay on Emirates Road. If you go on the E611/bypass road it's about 25 mins from the end of the E611 to that roundabout. From that roundabout it's 52km to the border crossing and the route is not fast. It took me almost an hour to go not-quite-as-far as the border. This is if you're heading to Khasab.

Most things scare me, I'm a real wuss. I guess over the past few years it would have been seeing an accident at a motorcycle track. I remember thinking "Someone's having a bad day" as people were crowding around the injured person. Then realising I hadn't seen DH ride past, then seeing the bike in accident being lifted up and it having DH's race number on it. Thankfully, a few days in hospital and a few weeks recovery and he was back to full health, but that moment of realisation, and the panic were something I won't forget.

And what's really frustrating when when you put all that work into getting your kids lice-free and they come home the next week with them again because someone else still has them. Do make sure you tell the nursery they've come home with lice and that you've treated yours so they can inform other parents.

Sue62 - when we took insurance in Dubai with RSA they took into account our previous no claims bonus - but even they won't work it the other way round. and it seems if you are outside the UK in the EU they will take into account your no claims. I'm not expecting anything, just asking for advice! Same when we moved to Oman, the insurers there took my UK earned no-claims bonus into account.

I don't think you can even try G 88. Those people are of a completely mindset to us. How sad that life, especially that of a child, can men so little.
