I used to work in the city, and one grey, wet morning, on pulling into Bank (one of the stops for the financial district where most of us alighted), the driver said "Have a good day - and can I say all you ladies are wearing particularly lovely blouses this morning" ! Oh how lovely, must have brightened quite a few ladies' day.

I think the airport situation may have changed now. We had the same deal in May, only 35 mins between flights and doing the grand tour of the airport by bus. Not to mention those who didn't look at the colour of the border of their boarding pass and got off at the wrong building. Do you not even get the chance to select your seat at the time of booking? (The reason I ask, and I mentioned this on another post about QA is that I had tickets booked for me and seat numbers were assigned at time of booking, and those were the seat numbers we flew with.)

There was a thread about PITA taxi drivers recently. I laughed when one poster said that if a taxi driver was really unhelpful she would close the back door gently enough to latch it but not close it completely so that the driver had to get out and close the door himself. You should try that CABear ;)

I thought after I'd typed that it didn't excuse the rudeness of the staff and that certainly should be brought up with the owner. Still, I don't think it's fair to complain that the staff wouldn't extend the opening hours because someone got lost.

Personally I would give the owner of the store a chance to respond first, before you put it on their FB page. The owner may well be as horrified as everyone else on here when she learns what happens. Playing the Devil's Advocate here, do we know how long the staff had been working that day? Maybe they/she was absolutely exhausted that day and desperate to finish work and get some rest. It's not really her fault if people don't get to the shop until close to closing time. Just my opinion...

I've had A Braun one for years and the first few times it's excruciating! After a while you hardly notice it. I've gone back to shaving because I found I was getting a lot of ingrown hairs around my ankle, plus I find I still need to do it very regularly - almost as much as shaving.

There's 24 hour security patrolling (or there was when we camped there). I'm not sure how you get hold of them, but I bought a book of Dreamland vouchers for AED 99 (I got mine at Manar Mall in RAK from some salesmen.). There are about 20 BOGOF admission vouchers in the book (max 2 at a time can be used), and a voucher for 25% off a cabin. Yassy, you're probably better off going in separate cars to the airport rather than separate flights. If it's any consolation I was an absolute wreck in the weeks leading up to our trip, especially as it was so far away. I was more concerned for the kids than something happening to us. Luckily my Dad is very understanding and would text every morning to say they were at school, and again in the afternoon to say they were home safely.

DH and I left our kids with my Dad for a week to go to Brazil. I put an envelope in the fire-safe and inside the envelope I put the kid's passports, birth certificates, medical records, copies of mine & DH's passports and letters from each of us giving my Dad permission to leave the country with the children (not sure if it would have worked but worth a try). I told him that if something happened to us both he was to grab the envelope and get on the next plane back home. I felt hugely guilty in the lead-up but DH and I had a great time just being husband and wife and the kids had a blast with Grandad.

I book through Expedia and my bags have always been checked through even with different airlines (EK and Air Canada this summer as one example, EK and Malaysian last year as another). They may not be able to check YOU all the way through and give you boarding cards for all sectors when you check in for your first flight so you may have to go to the transit desk for new boarding cards. If you can check-in online and print out your own boarding passes then that makes it easier.

I bought some bedlinen in IKEA last week and threw it straight in the wash. While I was ironing it I noticed a few flaws in the fabric. They're not particularly noticeable but I am concerned that they are weak spots in the fabric and may tear. I still have the receipt and the card insert with the product details but bearing in mind it's been washed, am I likely to get a replacement?

But she was saying that the other drivers would have to move to the left (faster) lanes suggesting that she drives in the right (slower) lanes. What is wrong with driving at the speed limit in the slow/slower lanes? If people have a problem with drivers doing the speed limit in the slower lanes then yes, they can p**s off to the faster lanes to exceed the speed limits. It s annoying to have someone sit right on the button in the fast lane when the slower lanes are flying past but you can't really get upset with someone doing the speed limit in the slow lanes, surely? :) <em>edited by Sanddy_Dogg on 26/09/2011</em>

Is it a jurisdiction thing or a bank thing (no matter where the bank is located)? It is standard bank procedure (and the law in most countries) if a account holder dies - all his accounts are frozen until there is a legal disbursement of the estate. In many countries, if the executor of the estate has the proper paperwork and presents it to the bank, that is sufficient. Ask the bank. When my father-in-law died, it took seven years for his widow to be able to access their (joint) account and their safe at the bank. When she did, she was allowed to open the safe in the central area of the bank and to her surprise, withdrew the gun he had used to fire a victory salute from the top of the Athens Chamber of Commerce on the day Greece was liberated, in 1944. Fortunately, it wasn't loaded, though the bullets were in the safe beside it. [b'>We have learnt from this that when one of us dies, the other will be sure to empty any joint accounts before giving the death certificate to the banks concerned.[/b'> Yup, that's what we've said too.

Unfortunately the lady at the bank was mis-informed. Your assets held offshore are out of bounds of the UAE. Of course having a will is always a good thing, allowing things to be sorted out more quickly. Although you may have been mis-informed, in the end, it was a good thing the lady mentioned about the will. Misinformation indeed. I have since been told that different areas hold their own rules for banking but the UAE's rules have no bearing on my offshore assets. I will get a will sorted, but one that takes into account all of my assets, in several countries, not one that only covers a few accounts held with one bank. Thanks for your input.

Actually, if someone is sticking right up close behind me, these days I take great delight in sticking right on the speed limit and watch their frustration rise as they try to weave out into the fast moving traffic in the lane to the left. Some of the people here have no respect for life. Idiots! [b'>and it's just this sort of behaviour that can lead these other drivers to cause accidents - deliberately "frustrating" them..[/b'> i always drive at the speed i'm most comfortable with and i keep out of the left hand lane wherever possible (being freeways the roads here aren't like "fast" or "slow" in UK). I took it that IWOM sticks to the speed limit in the right lane/s if traffic had to move to the left to pass her. I can't see anything wrong with driving at the speed limit in the slower lanes. i was meaning the attitude of deliberately winding other drivers up just for the sake of it... But how would they know?

Hoegaarden, Leffe and Budvar aren't English either, OP :) Although I do like the Budvar. I like a pint of Adnams Broadside (but drunk in Southwold where it's brewed as it doesn't travel so well) and my alltime favourite was King Keg from Greene King, but I doubt that's in existence any more.

oh, and be aware..those weirdo's on that side of ditch like their beer WARM. Awfully odd :D Only the softies from Darn Sarf, us from Oop North like it cold! :D Actually ales and beers are meant to be served at cellar temperature, which is between 10 and 14 degrees celcius, because they are warm fermented and have subtler flavours that you'd lose if you chilled them. Making me drool now. Oh for a summer afternoon sat outside a CAMRA pub...

*whispers* Guinness is Irish not English ;) Most places will sell the usual Stella, Carlsberg, Heineken etc (none of which are English) but the beers you can get (or do you mean lagers?) can vary depending on whereabouts in the country you are. Some breweries sell locally rather than nationally.

Thanks for that FJC. I explained that I am not a UAE national so couldn't see why our offshore assets would be affected by UAE laws but the lady was insistent that that it would be and has arranged for someone to call me and discuss a will. My bank can sort this will out for me - cost as yet undisclosed. I thought it was either the lady I was talking to not knowing what she was talking about, or a scaremongering tactic to get me to buy their will, but I want a will that encompasses all my assets, both here and offshore so if it's incorrect info I'm being given I'd like to be able to tell them that I don't believe it. ETA Is there a way to find out for sure if one's offshore assets/cash are safe from local laws? <em>edited by Sanddy_Dogg on 26/09/2011</em>
