Needing to know my mobile number for EVERYTHING dives me nuts, especially when you get text after text from them. I bought something from Yamaha and they asked for my number so I gave it to them and said "But no spam texts please." When I got the invoice he'd entered MRS SANDDY NO SPAM TEAXTS I now give my number with a few digits changed. Mt apologies if that's your number.

I don't like being knocked up at any time, SM! I would scowl if he doesn't get the message. Being pleasant was very much the wrong thing to do, ignoring him when he rings (repeatedly) doesn't seem to have any effect. If DH telling him not to knock (and I don't care if he does think DH is jealous, I'm sure this guy was brought up to think that Sir is in charge anyway) doesn't get through to him then I will show my displeasure by scowling and refsing to talk to him.

It goes the the other way too. There's a period of adjustment back home for the holidays when you have to remind yourself that the guy delivering the mail to your Mum's house where you're staying won't be knocking every 5 minutes demanding water/a job/sponsorship for his entire family/Eid money just because you said Hello in reply to him :)

This guy is annoying me for doign this to you.. urghhhhhh.. I really think he thinks you like him.. he has a crush on you... so even if you t ell your husband to tell him, he will ring the door when your husband is not home so you really didnt elminate the problem.. if your husband to tell him you really need to be standing right their with him so he knows its both of you saying "please stop".... [b'>if you have kids I would have recommended they greet him with water guns everytime he knocks at the door.. [/b'>:)... LOL!

Yep, they're right up there with the idiots. I had the same thing over a home package that had been cancelled a year previously. i could not believe how long they kept me on hold for, it must be company policy. In the end I told the woman that I didn't believe she needed to place me on hold YET AGAIN and she was to keep my on the line. She didn't... My mobile is with Du and I do find that dealing with actual people at the booths in the mall is really easy.

Yep, I also think BM has got it spot-on. I've lived here long enough that I should know better too. Chocs, my gates are always locked and he knows I have a dog that has 24hr access to the gardens front and back. The garbage man is Pakistani so I'm not sure whether he'd run the gauntlet of getting past the dog. I still don't trust his intentions though and I think the fact he knocked to tell me he "respects me" is quite telling. I'm sure he does anything but respect me. I've answered the door in vest top and shorts before (which I'm entitled to wear in my own home), something which he probably isn't that used to seeing. DH will have to deal with him from now on I think.

I think DH should have been doing this the past couple of weeks, Maracas, instead of us both ignoring it. unfortunately DH is overseas a lot so I'm here alone (with kids). Maybe DH should do it from now until he leaves again later this month and hopefully he'll get the message. If he still knocks after DH has gone then I WILL answer with a scowl, and show him I'm p****d off with him. Once the kids are back at school I'll probably be on the school run on the Tues collection but that still gives him the Saturday one to wake me up. When DH is home he usually gets up at 4.15am on a Friday so Sat. is out only sleep-in day grrr!

*lifts beer bottle* I did most of mine last term. I bought a size up (uniforms) from what they had last year. I can only buy uniforms from the school and it was bedlam for the first few weeks last year. Socks etc we've picked up piecemeal over the summer and shoes were done last week.

That's just it, Aroha, he makes me feel uncomfortable in my own home. He rings, and when I don't answer he rings again. We're tiptoeing around waiting for him to go whilst making sure he doesn't spot us. It's difficult because I don't want to come across as nasty and I don't begrudge giving anyone water, but it seems we're the only doorbell he rings. I also don't trust him completely.... I guess DH needs to try and tell him :-S

The garbage man, that is. He's the driver, not the ones who do the hard work. He comes twice a week and rings the bell most times, usually at 7.30am, and one of these days is a Saturday. He did ring once because he could see my recycling bagged up, thought it was garbage, but couldn't get to it - fair enough. He's rung to say hello, he's rung to say he respects me, he's rung to ask if I'll sponsor his brother and this morning he rung to ask for "Big bottle of water, my people are parched" I made DH answer that one. I've made the mistake (I guess) of saying hello or waving back when he waved at me in the early days but now when I hear the truck I cringe and wait for the doorbell to ring (which I now don't answer). One day I came back from the school run and he waited on my driveway for me when he saw my car. I drove past him, closed the garage door and swept inside. Is he likely to get the message if I keep ignoring him or can I tell him to sod off (nicely). I think he rung before Eid to say they wouldn't be coming the next collection day but I'm not getting legitimate messages because I don't want to answer the door. I asked my neighbour if he rings her doorbell and he doesn't.

We had private cars to drive us in Brasilia and they did have proper belts in the back. The taxis were hit and miss, same for taxis in Rio. We only had a short time in Rio and although DH had been before, less than a year ago, he said the best thing to do was book a tour. We booked from our hotel and it was a minibus tour. There are loads to choose from and I really enjoyed ours. Our tour minibus only had lapbelts. I used a Bubblebum this summer (different destinations) and I thought it was great for travelling - much easier than lugging a rigid booster around. ETA Englisha was widely spoken in Rio but hardly at all in Brasilia - I wouldn't be surprised if it would be the same in other areas of Brazil. Oh you have so much to learn :) I have actually (accidentally) sprayed the screen or keyboard with whatever I've been drinking when I've unexpectedly read something hilarious. TMI!!
