flowershop.ae were recommended to me on EW a few months ago. Delivery was very quick and although I did't see the arrangement I was assured that it was very good :)

Don't know if anyone remembers a poster leaving to go back to the US about 2 years ago. She came on here asking if anyone would take her fish because she didn't have the heart to flush him (!) I said that if he was a small, cold water fish that I could add to the tank with DD's goldfish then I'd take him. She said he was so I arranged to meet her and collect the fish. She handed me a leaking Ziploc bag with this huge cichlid in about 2" of water and her parting shot was "It killed all the other fish in my tank." It's still going strong despite the filter breaking down for a few days, jumping out of the tank a few times (now covered), the water turning brown due to too much holiday feeder, temperature changes, being transported around the UAE in a screw top jar.....

The MoE store is Go Sports. Decathlon in Mirdif City Centre is a huge sports shop and worth a try.

If you get a chance go up the Marina Bay Sands hotel to the top floor to see the infinity pool. I'm sooo jealous - I'd love to be going there next weekend. Our friends there have just had their second baby :-) Be aware that you have to pay to go to the top of the Marina Bay Sands hotel - SIN$20 (AED 60) for an adult & SIN$ 14 (AED 42) for children ages 2-12. Although the view from the top is spectacular you don't get a full view of the pool because there are drapes behind it for the privacy of bathers so you have to peek between the gaps.

Or do the Big Bus Tour. You get to see a lot of Singapore and can just jump off if something catches your eye.

I bought C4 apples a few days ago and I always choose carefully. However, I still had to throw several in the bin because bruises had developed. They must lift them as high as they can and drop them onto the display. The one I did have had hardly any moisture - it was vile!

Oh with reference to the current theme in other threads... about maids and labour cards, and ensuring unmarrieds are not livin together.... in that respect. Do they check? Yes they do check. My maid had been stopped several times. No issue as she was legal and carried her labour card with her.

I held my maid's passport, but because she asked me too. When I collected her passport with the visa for the first time I was told by the FZ issuing the visa to keep her passport. Edited for typo. edited by Sanddy_Dogg on 11/08/2011

I don't know, hence my comment about grumpy officers. If you read the OP thoroughly you can see that it happened at night and that even the Concierge involved thought the police were pulling a fast one.

Well she said they'd been out for the evening and left the hotel at 12.30am this morning so I guess she knows the difference between night and day. Grumpy police officers perhaps?

Yes, for men it's a local anaesthetic but for women it's a general. I think female sterilisation was offered under heavy sedation for a while but that no longer seems to be an option.

Kooky, it's advised that men don't go on long haul flights for 7-10 days after having a vasectomy.

I think it is since then that the rules have changed. I've been told that there is the odd place that does it but cannot confirm this. I've called a couple of places within the past year who did do vasectomies in the past to be told no, they don't do them.

It will be interesting with Ramadan being in August this year. I feel sorry for people who have to work out in the heat. I got in a taxi at the airport just before 7pm a few days ago with a fasting driver. He got onto Emirates Rd and drove like the clappers. I told him that I was more than happy for him to stop and pray/break his fast, which he did. He drove a lot more sedately after that LOL! DEfinitely worth the extra time :)

I'd call Etisalat or Du and ask if it's their number. when you find out the provider tell them there's a fault and see what they suggest. They may be able to tell you what the fault is.

LOL! It was worth a try. I sent it to RD, didn't realise I'd sent it to you too. I did the course and it was great but over the years the fear has crept back in. How far are you flying?

Here I am! Just returned from 40 hours on 9 flights over a period of 3 weeks and 2 days. And yes, I still hate it. Apparently RR is available, but from only 1 place in Dubai AFAIK (Aroha will know if she's about), I got my Dad to bring me some from the UK. Before I went to Brazil a few months ago I went to see my GP who prescribed beta blockers which remove the panicky feeling (but not the fear - it's weird) and Xanax which make you quite drowsy and not so edgy. They have the advantage over alcohol of not giving you a hangover and not needing to get up for a wee on the hour, every hour. ETA I still have the Flying Without Fear booklet I was given on a course years ago scanned on my computer. Do you want me to email it to you? edited by Sanddy_Dogg on 08/08/2011

But most (all?) HSBC credit cards issued in the UAE don't have a chip, therefore no PIN required. We just tell the cashier that it' not C&P as we hand over the card and we get a slip to sign instad of putting in a PIN.
