I have discovered a very simple way of dealing with this. the next time someone says- You got fat, simply turn around and tell them to F off- when they turn round and say that your language is so rude madam just say as is yours. They wont say it again I can tell you that much! You're brave - there's no way on earth I'd tell anyone in the UAE to F off!!

Does anyone recall seeing Revlon cosmetics in the UAE? I haven't looked at Revlon for donkey's years but grabbed a mascara here in Canada and love it. I was just wondering whether to grab a couple here before heading back to the UAE. Thanks.

That's too simplified. Yes, in most cases a mother is the best qualified person to look after her kids but that doesn't mean she has to be with them 24/7 - jeez that's enough to turn any saint to drink! It'a about striking a balance and taking time off from being xxxxx's mummy. A happy mummy helps create a happy child; a stressed mummy does not a harmonious family make. It does kids the world of good too to be able to spend time with other people apart from their mother occasionally but sometimes things don't pan out as planned, which is what happened in the OP's case. It's life, it happens. She's talking about her child being out of the home for half a day, 5 days a week. She's not turning the care of her child over to a childless, young, reckless housemaid all day every day.

Please try and avoid pet shops, their puppies are often the products of puppy mills and far too many people have sd tales to tell regarding puppies bought from pet shops in this region. Have a look on Dubbizle or on noticeboards for families trying to rehome a family pet.

That's what I was thinking - the decimal point instead of the comma allows the figure to only be interpreted one way. I'm a PITA aren't I? :D

the number isn't spelled out - says 100 Dirhams edited by nadadanada on 12/07/2011 Bizarre! All my banknotes have the number written numerically in the corners (but no currency) but with the sum and currency written along the bottom in words, not figures. Bugzy, if you saw 1,650 with a comma, not a full stop/period/point does that make it read differently to you? When I see a comma in a number I read it as a pause (?) whereas I read a " . " as marking decimal place.

It should be one point six five million so 1.65 million? The comma is completely wrong, yes? Wasn't sure of capital or lowercase e, but lowercase it is. The currency is an interesting one :) Thanks again. ETA Regarding the currency: the bank notes say ONE HUNDRED DIRHAMS. If the number was written "100" would "100 Dirhams" still be correct or is that format only correct for when the number is spelled out, not written numerically? <em>edited by Sanddy_Dogg on 12/07/2011</em>

Another one who doesn't like LG appliances here. I would stick with the brands you are familiar with from outside the UAE. I'm with Muurtje - Miele, Samsung, Bosch as well as Siemens, Whirlpool, SMEG etc.

People who don't post anything aren't snoop-worthy! How can you put individual people on a limited profile? Can you select them and then just select what they can or cannot do, or do you have to exclude them from seeing your status, exclude them from posting, exclude them from viewing your photos on so on...?

I guess as Sue says, message her on FB and if she doesn't reply then delete her. I had quite a few friends who never did anything on FB, never posted photos or their own status. I feel FB should be a two-way street so why should I let someone have a good nose at my photos and see what I'm up to when they give nothing away themselves? They got deleted. Of course, it could just be that they never use their FB account, in which case it won't bother then if I delete them. I had a good cull a few months ago, as did DH. Most of the ones he deleted requested him as a friend again LOL! Next to go will be no-emotion-goes-unposted SIL who twice has restricted things so that me, DH, DD (and maybe others) can't LIKE or comment on anything she posts.Wen I mentioned it thinking it might be a problem with her account she apologised for not changing her settings. Once more and she'll be gone; that'll put the cat amongst the pigeons :)

Do you mean AEd 600,000 pa? In that case, anywhere I damn well like :D If schooling isn't an issue, what about work? Do you have a DH who'll be working? If so you may as well aim to be in the right area of the city for that at least. Communities such as The Lakes, Arabian Ranches, Green Community are family-orientated places.

Many years go (over 20 :() I travelled with Thai Airways and they had cabin crew members who were also trained nursery nurses. They had a section with skycots in it and if you wanted they would take your baby and put them in one of the skycots. the downside was that it removed maybe 6 or 9 seats that they could have charged for but i do remember thinking it was an incredible idea.

Thanks, I think I'll give this a try. Is the coffee filtered at some point so the ground coffee is not in the final drink? If so, would it be filtered coffee that's mixed with the saffron, cloves etc? We bumped into a local family at a heritage site last year and they gave us coffee - delicious!
