Outside or inside? I think it's a very long lesson but I would want to know if the lesson is conducted inside or outside. I'd be very surprised if any school conducted PE lessons outside in high temperatures. After all, the teachers won't want to be outside either.

In DH's case he was supposed to go to Rashid but the ambulance missed the turning so decided to take him to the American instead. Not exactly confidence inspiring... I should say though that I don't think this was a 999 type ambulance but one that was in attendance for a sporting event. The ambulance crew didn't seem to know what they were doing either. I think the ambulances that attend 999 calls are properly equipped, better trained and know where they should be taking their patient.

I'm in a different emirate now and visit a private hospital, like the American, for sniffles, rashes, routine checks etc. but maintain that for anything critical we'll go to the government hospital next door.

It's probably not the best but my dogs seemed to be well looked after and had no problems. I did text the owner (who's a vet) a few times while we were away to see how they were and she always replied fairly promptly. *whispers* We only have the one dog now so we're flying my mum over to dog/house-sit while we away rather than putting him in kennels alone *blushes*

Ambulance took DH there after a motorbike accident a couple of years ago - it was a scary experience! After that we said that for anything serious we would go to Rashid Hospital who have a proper A&E department. These A&E departments in private hospitals bear little resemblance to a true A&E department.

Have you looked at fridge-only units? I have a Fisher & Paykel which is about 1.8m high, no freezer at all. I find stuff stays fresh for quite a long time. Carrefour, Union Co-op, Better Life all have these on display.

Well give us a little more info. Do you want a well-known brand or a cheap one? Do you want a freezer section? Do you want a water chiller? Do you want full-sized or a 3/4 sized fridge?

I don't think mossies will be to much of a problem this time of the year as it's too hot. It sounds like as long as you're not expecting any form of luxury but have a good sense of adventure you'll be fine. the crab hunt seems to be a hit :)

Ideally knees and shoulders should be covered all year round, not just in Ramadan. Don't need to cover to the ankles, even in Ramadan but just below the knee is fine. Personally, I don't think vest tops are ok anywhere except the beach, pool or bar. Anywhere you'll be amongst the local/Muslim population your shoulders should be covered. You will see people with lots flesh on show but that doesn't make it ok. Loose fitting clothes are better in the hot months otherwise you'll be uncomfortable with tight clothes sticking to you. good luck with the move

Don't go for the shopping :) The hotel is walking distance to the Al Hamra Golf Club which has a few restaurants.

As sam7 has said, you can walk through at RAK so you wouldn't need to drive through. I think you're looking about 2-3 hours each way, but not sure.

Thanks for taking the time to reply Ladies. I'm asking on behalf of someone else, and since i typed my first post, I've figured that it seems they are looking for a company who deals with making all the travel arrangements on a commercial flight and supplies the medical staff and equipment needed to transport the patient back to the UK.

Union Co-op, I think it is. It's like a smaller Carrefour or Lulu. If you have one near you it's worth a visit. There's another one in Al Bada'a (?) near the place where the maids get their medicals done, and I believe there may be a new one open in Al Basha, but someone can confirm.

I think they have a set number of cups which have to be accounted for so if they sell you a large cup, regardless of how much they put in it, they have to charge you for a large cup - or so I was told. And yes, I think it's silly.

IF you have piffling amounts of foreign currencies (not worth changing) and IF you fly Emirates, take the insignificant amounts of foreign coins on board with you, put them in the Emirates Airline Foundation envelopes and hand them to staff as you disembark. Other airlines may have a similar set-up too.

If you have room in your freezer, buy at least several days worth of milk and freeze it. It goes quite yellow when frozen but once it's thawed out it looks, smells ad tastes just like fresh milk.

mine bill has doubled in last few months. use to buy vegetables from spinneys and fruits from lulu but now i goto 3 different supermarkets!prices are escalating. and my biggest problem is bread.use to buy swiss cottage but saw fungus in there once and that too in fresh bread so ave stopped buying that. and it doesn't help that i use to cost me 7 AED for small.being only 2 in the family i have to throw bread out after every 3 days :( have tried so many but not tasty enough. Freeze the fresh bread. Take them out and let stand for sometime. As good as fresh! But keep it well sealed with as little air as possible while it's in the freezer. All my bread goes straight in the freezer.

The poor boy wasn't even on a jet-ski. He and his friends were having innocent fun on a banana-boat ride. I hope the police press charges against the stupid jet-skier who was trying to jump the waves created by the boat pulling the banana-boat.
