Oh yeah, txjuliet, the Actifry is great! I did spicy wedges in mine last night and they were fab. Regular chips/french fries done in the Actifry are delicious :)

Why do you cook separate meals for your children? Why don't they eat what you are eating? Sometimes, like tonight, we'll fancy something really spicy with raw chopped chillies in it. I wouldn't expect my kids to eat that. For the most part we all eat the same food but once in a while it's ok to have separate meals for kids and adults. I do not agree with cooking different meals to suit picky eaters every mealtime though.

BTW, if you want to buy just a phone (as I had to when I dropped my first iphone down the pan) Axion sell them for a few hundred AED cheaper than Virgin (as of last Saturday).

I have the 32gb as I like a lot of music and photos on mine. I am on Du but given the choice I wold go with Etisalat as their plan is based on '125' as opposed to Du's '100'. I went with Du because at the time Etisalat were out of stock with no idea when they would get more in (this was December). You get better packages if you buy the phone as part of the package rather than buying the phone separately and signing up to a contract.

I have a child in each part of the school. Primary I have no problem with. Class sizes are relatively small, teachers western (by western I mean, mostly British, Canadian, SA) and seem to be pretty dedicated. Very high proportion of locals to expats and can cause a bit of a problem with those that don't speak English. Kids integrate fairly well, facilities so-so, nice community feel, new Principal a few months ago who seems to know what he's about. Go to C4/Lulu first and jot down the prices per kilo of items you're likely to want to buy. Then you'll have an idea of whether or not you're being told a fair price (and many times I've been quoted a higher price than C4).

If you're a visa on arrival nationality then yes I guess so. I *think* you can walk across but to be sure I would take your car insurance certificate with you showing you are covered in Oman.

If you want specific directions, follow the E311 (Emirates Road) to the roundabout at the end and turn right. Go straight through the 1st set of lights (KFC & Pizza Hut on the right). Turn right at the next roundabout (with a clock in the top of a tent on it). Straight over the lights (fuel station on your right). Straight over the roundabout. Straight over the next set of lights (not far past a new, unopened mall on your right). Next set of lights turn left. You will now be on the E18 Al Rams Road. Keep going and follow the signs to Oman Border and/or Mussandam.

No, you can do a visa run through RAK at the border with Oman/Mussandam. Get on the E18 in RAK and follow the signs for Oman Border or Mussandam.

*struggles* I grew up in a village on the east coast of England. I can remember in the summer holidays going out with friends in the morning and being out all day. We would walk for miles down lanes between farmer's fields to play at ponds or in woods. Thinking about it, we never took and water or any food. I'm not quite sure how we survived. In the summer, if it was a windy day we would head to the beach hoping for an offshore wind and big waves. We'd then go and swim. Another time I remember a group of us kids being quite far out in a flat sea being involved in some game or other. Without realising it, a thick fog rolled in quickly completely obliterating the shore. We had no idea which way was which. Of course, there was never an adult in attendance. Again, not quite sure how we survived. I was a keen sailor from when I was about 11 and spent a lot of fun times on the water. <em>edited by Sanddy_Dogg on 19/06/2011</em>

SandyDogg, if no one else, will understand, I'm sure, that the delicious doughnut I have just devoured is clearly lower in calories as a) it was meant for my daughter, b) I ate it quickly standing up and c) it came from the Organic shop so must be much better for me anyway.. Pretty much a diet food then? FRom the rganic shop? Was it a wholemeal doughnut LOL?

Entering Canada without DH one year I was questioned. The lady in immigration just advised me to get DH to write a letter giving his permission for me to travel with the kids *must do that this week*. Not sure if the same rules apply for grandparents or if it's more complicated though.

A word of warning about Blue Bird.... By all means buy your packing materials from them - they have a good choice and are far, far cheaper than ACE or Ikea, but do not use them to move you. We made that mistake. They are cheap but they just hire a truck/driver and some labourers. I object to having upright lamps and other items of furniture thrown in the back of an open truck with no packaging or protection whatsoever.

When you click on Music can you see boxes with "Sync Music", "Playlists", "Artists" etc? These should all have boxes you can tick.

Yes. ***DISCLAIMER*** I don't know if syncing with iTunes on your PC will remove any music already on your phone if you downloaded through iPhone iTunes. This is how I do it: Once you're connected and iTunes is open on your computer you should be able to see your iPhone in the menu down the left hand side. Click on it then click on "Music" along the top. Here you are given the chance to choose what to put on your iPhone. You can select everything that's on your PC iTUnes, or selected Artists, Albums, Genres or Playlists (or a combination). A ringtone can only be 30 seconds long max and needs to be copied to your iphone as a ringtone file. This link explains how to create a ringtone from a song in iTunes. http://osxdaily.com/2010/09/04/make-free-iphone-ringtones-in-itunes-10/ You can select which 30 seconds of the song you want to use - I anted the chorus, not the beginning of my chosen song. Ah, sorry can't help. I've just looked at iTunes on my phone, Said "Hmmm.....' and closed it :) I always use iTunes on my computer to set up my phone. By the way - if you never connect your iPhone to your computer and let it sync, please do! I dropped my iphone in a toilet earlier this month and completely killed it. I bought a new one, connected it to my computer, let it sync and ta da! my new phone is exactly like my old one. I have all my old apps, my contacts, email addresses, SMS's - everything.
