Mine uses a different cup or glass every time he has a drink of water, he'll put the glass down next to the dishwasher (not in it) and then 2 seconds later take another glass out of the cupboard. He uses a different towel every time he showers, but leaves the other towels hanging on door corners to dry! DRIVES ME NUTS! edited by starsouthern on 01/05/2014 Mine uses *my* towel every single time he showers. No matter what I do, I come up to shower and find my towel wet. Gross. Oh yuk! I would be unimpressed with that.

I don't have the password to be able to check online and they won't issue another password. I really don't remember getting a password at any point. Those who WERE paying attention, did it give you a word, numbers or a mix (in the faint hope it'll jog my memory!) The online application system generates a user name and password at the end of the process when you get to the print, sign and send final page, Unfortunately its a random password generated by the system, not one you have to create. If you have saved copy of that page its in very small print under username. No I didn't save it. What a dummy, I can't believe I missed that, normally I take not of passwords :( Thanks anyway.

I'd like to know WHY they remove them. When I asked I was told "We don't remove anything, that's how they come to us". I don't believe it either.

I use S&S a lot, especially around Christmas. I can't believe so many suppliers don't put invoices in. All my packages get opened by S&S.

Over 50% of my S&S stuff has no invoice. One was for a GoPro camera - I effectively had no proof of purchase. I once questioned it with S&S and they said they don't remove the invoices. Yeah, right.....

My passport was received by the passport office one week ago. I've called called to find out if there's been any progress as I'm hoping to travel within the next few weeks. The lady I spoke to in the passport office wouldn't even look at my application and told me to wait at least another week before calling again. It doesn't sound good :(

Last week I pick up over $800 worth of stuff I ordered from the US, from the post office. It clearly had the value printed on the paperwork attached to the package yet I didn't get dinged for customs. I decided not to question it...

I have the passport forms from the Post Office, so I was thinking about filling them and couriering them back to my mum and then she can go and do the one week service at the passport office and then courier it to me, don't know if that's a possibility though, has anyone tried that? If it's the UK-based application with the forms you pick up from the Post Office in the UK, you're not allowed to do that. It actually says on the declaration that you sign, that you're in the UK at time of application. I did this to apply for a new passport for my daughter when I took her back in January (she stayed in the UK so the passport was stay within the UK anyway.) There was an issue with the application and by the time it was picked up, I - the person applying for the passport on my daughter's behalf - was back here in the UAE. I was told her application was invalid and that I would have to fly back to the UK to make another application, and wait in the UK until the new passport was issued. I argued that I WAS in the UK at the time of application and if they doubted it, they could check with immigration. I can't see DS ever going to boarding school, I don't think it's right for him. It WAS right for DD though and she's much happier there, and she's doing so much better academically there. There is no blanket right or wrong, and as you say, yo make the decision for your own reasons.

LOL! It's so we can continue to party and brunch without having to worry about looking after our children, doncha know? Nothing at all to do with our children wanting to return to their country of origin. Nothing to do with our children getting a far superior education than they can in some of the schools here (some of us don't get too many schooling options) and nothing to do with positioning our children to be able to do what they want in their future. And as Scribs says, they're not left to fend for themselves.

DD said they had the heating on full blast during winter so she was hot. The beds were awful but apparently they've replaced them all over easter so they have different beds now. the setting for the school is beautiful and today she's done one of these high adrenaline speed boat rides out on the sea with the rest of the full-time boarders. I'm less than impressed but she said it was absolutely amazing :D

RAK Academy has PYP but no MYP - it's more of a British curriculum. Students then have the option of choosing to do A levels or the Diploma programme. I don't have a problem with the PYP but was not remotely impressed with secondary. A friend moved her primary children to GEMS and is even less impressed.

We skype at weekends but BBM every day. We are encouraged to give our kids £50 a term pocket money. There's a tuck shop in school where they can buy all kinds of unhealthy cr@p :/ My DD's going on a boat trip today.

Ah, the thread linked to is mine :) My DD is now in her second term in boarding school and so far so good. She's also in year 10. She's close to grandparents but I have her as a full boarder so she can stay in at weekends and it's not putting pressure on my parents to have her a theirs on weekends. She gets plenty of exeat weekends - one a month - plus long weekends an half terms etc where all boarders leave the house.

I'm not quite sure what you're asking when you say through Hatta or Muscat. We always went through Hatta. It was dead easy to get to Muscat. The cost will depend on whether you're here on visitor or residence visas. If you're on visitor visas I think it's AED 200 each, less if you have residence visas. If you're driving a rental vehicle make sure you're allowed to take it to Oman. If it's yours check if your insurance covers you for Oman. You can buy insurance at the border but I imagine it would cost more.

If you're renting a vehicle there then yes, you can drive on your UAE licence. The only restrictions may be due to the amount of time you've held a licence.

I for one am glad they're getting rid of Damas trees. They grow incredibly fast as do their roots. We had so many problems from our neighbour's Damas trees shoving their roots through our sewage pipes. We weren't the only ones either.

Trader Vic's is in what was formerly the Al Hamra Fort Hotel. I'm not sure what the exact name is now but it's been rebranded as a Hilton. I'm not entirely sure where the BBC is going, for some reason I thought the Golf Club, which is right next to the aforementioned (!) hotel anyway.

Yes I think it was wise given that the handle all the inbound passports. If I hadn't have asked on here I would have used Aramex, so it was worth posting. I sent my duaghter's forms back with Aramex a few months ago (just the forms, no passport) and it was AED 195. This was several sheets more plus two passports. I DID get a deal, didn't I? :D

Going to the UK is a bit of an issue unless the new owner is willing to pay. All dogs entering the UK have to do so as cargo which is really expensive. the easiest and cheapest way to move dogs around is on airlines and into countries that will allow them to travel as excess baggage. I can't see the "higher ups" helping in this case.
