DS has a VTech that he's had for a few years. All the games for that are educational so I have no problem. The kids have a Wii with a few games but they mostly play Wii Sports or on the Wii Fit, if they play with it at all. DD has a DS which she rarely uses, plus an iPod. DS has an MP3 player. The Vtech, DS and MP3 players are great for travelling but don't get used a great deal otherwise. Both kids have computer access.

I did pass comment on the dress to DH that the pattern made it look as if her nipples could be seen. But... I think Kate, Pippa, Camilla, the Queen, Kate's mum all looked lovely. Wills didn't look bad either, balding or not :)

Sorry you feel the need to flounce (not that it'll make any difference; people do it quite frequently), but did you do [u'>no[/u'> research before employing a maid? With the salary you say you are giving you are paying waaaay over the norm. You are paying the kind of salary that people pay to tried-and-trusted maids who have put in years of good service. These maids know what the going rate is; they knows they're being paid way over the odds and they also know you're ripe for being taken for a ride and that's exactly what they're doing - taking you for a ride. *wishes VP was here*

I'd love to say, "I don't know why you're acting as if you're so much better than me, it's not as if YOU can afford to shop in here." (But I never would.) I've been lucky with the attitude, but I hate the shadow following me around the store. The next time it happens I WILL ask them if they have good reason to suspect I'm going to steal from them. If they say No then I'm going to ask that they stop following me as if I have THIEF tattooed on my forehead. If they say Yes however, then I'll really be stumped :)

I'm the type of person who never really looks well groomed no matter how much time I've spent on my appearance or how well I'm dressed (which most of the time is 'not very' :)). I was in Tiffany's in MoE a couple of years ago and was treated very courteously and given a lot of time, despite not looking rich. Given the service I received I was happy I did buy from them. Some higher end stores know how to select/train their staff.

I have to question the common sense of the EMPLOYER who pays 2500 - 3000 a month to a maid who can't seemingly do a thing right. Sounds like a perfect pairing.

Personally, my feeling is that if you'll be out of pocket don't come. Dubai is great but it's certainly not worth losing money over. If you can work out a feasible package then great, otherwise stay where you are. If you come and it doesn't work out then debt will complicate the process of going back or going elsewhere. Good luck with getting proper answers (and hopefully getting a decent package!)

I googled "blackberry skype" and the site shows that you can run Skype on a BB. Not sure if there would be a problem getting in on from here though.

Those poor two girls, who on Earth advised them on their outfits? Must have done it for a bet! I've said it before; I'll say it again. [i'>This has the evil mark of Sarah York all over it.[/i'> :D "Wear it, Darling, you look WONDERFUL!"

Didn't notice it before, but I think young Pippa's been at the fake tan ... :D Yes, it was a bit bright. I also think the heavy eyeliner sported by Kate, her Mum, whicheverofAndrewsdaughters and a few others was a shame.

I don't recall seeing them here either, WM. ETA OP, do a search on Microgynon. I found one where a poster said it's no longer available. You might find more info if you go through the threads that come up on a search. edited by Sanddy_Dogg on 29/04/2011

You can buy contraceptive pills over the counter here but your particular brand may not be available. If you don't mind posting which brand you use then I'm sure someone can tell you if it's stocked here.

Our live-in left 14 months ago. The kids have had to learn that they now have a part to play in the running of the household. Nothing too serious but they are expected to pick up after themselves, put dirty laundry in the washing basket, bring lunchboxes through to kitchen, pick up dog poo (DD's dog; DD's job). The house is not clean and tiny all the time like it was with a maid, but it's mine now. My maid was great in the first few years with a DH away a lot of the time and my youngest being only 18 months old. After a few years she didn't seem so necessary. The kids were older and at school all day, I don't work so I didn't see the point in paying someone to do my housework while I watched. I don't like the invasion of privacy so in the end the positives were outweighed by the negatives. Yes, it is hard work but my floors don't need to be swept and mopped everyday, nor does every surface need to be dusted every day. The toilets get scrubbed daily and the bathroom wiped with Clorox wipes daily, a proper clean with sponge/scourer and Jif a couple of times a week. DS doesn't use the shower in his bathroom, he uses ours so that's one less to clean. I did have an agency maid come twice a week to do floors only but I stopped that a month ago as it wasn't convenient for me. I'm much happier not having a maid but then my hands aren't anywhere near as full as yours! :)

Singpore Airlines was *ok* a couple of years ago. Great service but older planes. At the time the airline was doing a deal where you could book hotels through them for $1.

The Lakes is closer to ASD than Meadows. You can walk from anywhere to anywhere in The Lakes (weather permitting) so you are always within walking distance of the main pool, gym, convenience store.
