15 hours is horrid, but do able (ask any kiwi or ozzie) and you;ll be on your own, and if you can get a night flight you could maybe sleep most of it? Vodka will get you on the plane and off the ground..regularly top it up, and I have rescue remedy if you need it. Thanks for the offer. It's booked, I'm panicking, I feel sick..... (and I don't leave for another month) I'll get my Dad to bring some out as it'll be easier for him to get in the UK and I don't want to rob you of yours. Thanks again.

I'm not keen on 'maid' either but my maid always referred to herself as a maid so that's what she was.

And you will now say to him (or after your final appointment), "Well let me know if you're in my area and we can get together." Yes? :) edited by Sanddy_Dogg on 27/04/2011

Highlighted names are those you've clicked on previously. I've clicked on others as well as my own to bring up a list of threads they or I have posted on when I'm looking for a particular thread. It's often quicker than scrolling through all the pages to look for a particular thread.

The words that made me smile were 'returning home'. I know you've enjoyed Dubai and I also know it's been tough to be so far from your family so I wish you the very best of luck in your new job. Enjoy being home and I bet the next weeks can't pass quickly enough! Xx

I would start with the nearest Traffic Police dept. If you're happy to claim on your own insurance the police may well have a look, listen to what happened and give you an accident report. If you want to claim off the truck's insurance they would probably still be the best place to start before you head off to the police at Sharjah or even Ajman. Good luck.

The Freezone our visas were processed through told me to keep my maid's passport even though I hadnt asked the question. Doesn't necessarily make it right but it does mean it's a widely accepted practice.

There were 2 issues with this poster. One was the SA family she was trying to help where the mother was in jail and the father left to lookn after their LO. Can't remember too much about it but it was apparently dodgy. The more memorable one was the family in RAK she was collecting for. The family existed and did genuinely need help but the person we are talking about seemed to have questionable motives, and not for the first time it seems.

You're welcome, Lenochka. I like it because you don't need wifi or 3G to use it. You need the connection for it to load the latest exchange rates but you can still use it without the connection, just at the exchange rate at the last time of connection. You can choose which currencies to display.

yes and its been 4 years...nuts I know. Having said that, I also convert from my home country to dhs when I'm there... Coming up 7 years in the middle east and still convert to GBP. Do convert to AED when we're overseas just out of interest. DH gets paid in USD so he converts everything to that. I have an app on my phone so I can see what something costs in AED, GBP, USD, Euros and the currency of the country I'm in all at the same time :)

Irooni, it's not a case of still being allowed to post, she created a new username. Unfortunately she posted too many things that tied in with the previous poster Pillows which was spotted by an eagle-eyed EW-er. Anyone who remembered the Pillows saga who looked back at LLIU's post would see that they were the same person.

For those who weren't here first time around, Pillows was exposed as a scammer. Behind the scenes people were bending over backwards to help in all good faith. One of these people is a very close friend of mine. This friend told me quite a few things about Pillows. Bizarrely enough many of these things were exactly whT LLIU posted recently except I'd heard it all before LLIU posted.

Probably best to get clarification from the airline. You have a 50/50 chance and sod's law says you'll pick the wrong one. Just as well you clarified it's a false name or there'd be a raft of people searching for Karen Susan Fisher on Facebook :)

I know one of the two people who bent over backwards to help Pillows (it wasn't friends of hers she was trying to help but herself and her boyfriend). The person I know had told me quite a few details that tie in with what this LLIU has posted - but before LLIU posted. It would have slipped under my radar but someone else spotted it first and when I went back and read LLIU's thread it all tied in with what I have already been told.

Here's an interesting link. I would go to the Rijksmuseum and Anne Frank's house, but there's loads of choice and I'm sure you can fit some of it in! http://www.iamsterdam.com/en/visiting These are intersting, but I must say the s*x museum is hilarious!! Never in my life have I seena nything like it!! Oh god yes, I went in there with a girlfriend (bit of a waste really, lol). The pictures from Victorian times were pretty shocking :)

I know, I know - there's no reason not to go except for my own daftness. The flight will be a nightmare whatever - I'm terrified of flying but I guess I can just sink that much more without having to worry about the kids. Flying cattle so it'll be Gin not Champers lol! These are my Dad's only Grandkids and he misses them terribly so I know he'll cherish the time with them, they'll wrap him round their little fingers (but he won't let them overstep the mark). I did think about taking them but the flight is too long and the time difference too great for such a short trip. We just got back from Singapore two weeks ago and were stressed out with the kids wanting to do nothing except watch tv or go to the pool so really, I don't know what I'm waiting for! :)

I agree, the implications of posting photos in a few comedic minutes can affect for years to come but I still think that at 21 years of age the OP needs to talk to her first, not going behind her back to her father. Facebook can be great. With mobile uploads out families thousands of miles away can see what we were doing 30 seconds ago, but it can also be a bl**dy menace!

Can't you just message her yourself and ask if she's aware that every Tom, Dick and Harry can see her photos and tell her if she's not happy with this to set them to be viewable by friends only. It may very well be that she's entirely aware that her photos are viewable by everyone and she's happy with that. At 21 years old I think it's probably up to her to decide what she shows to the world - rightly or wrongly - and I'm not sure there's a lot you can do.
