Hi everyone, Is there anywhere in Dubai that you would recommend for a safe and reliable sports massage? (either from your own experience or others that you have heard of). I have a guest visiting who is suffering with a really crummy back and its a long flight home - I'm wanting to get him booked in for a session this evening and tomorrow before boarding because that's what has been helping him in another country the last couple of weeks. Thanks so much for any and all suggestions that you can quickly throw my way :))))))

After that blatant plug, which seems to have been removed, I was wondering if anyone had actually tried this? We've got visitors coming shortly and it looks like a fun way to see Dubai - makes a change from a double-decker bus :) Sorry, I don't know what the wonder bus tour is but I did try the Big Bus Tour (double decker) when I had a visitor over one time, which worked well for the purpose :)

Loved it when we went last summer. Pricey but nicey Hehehe, I was thinking the same thing when I looked up the price quote per night :) Last night I broke the subject with hubby about organising a short weekend escape for us as his Valentines gift - in the middle of the beautiful desert, to refresh us after what has been a horrible start to this year... He looked at me and said something like "What is there to do ?" So I explained there is nothing really 'to do' but just relax, enjoy the fresh air and incredible scenery, rest and be pampered for a couple of nights before going back to the grind of another working week... His response was "But I can do nothing right here at home ... If you want to go though we can" Hahahaha.....gift idea fail :( I've literally just found out I'm cleared to go in for a small hospital procedure this weekend anyhow so the weekend away plan is now on hold for a little bit :)

Asked dh via the medium of txt as it seems it's yet another long day at the office, and I won't be awake at midnight to answer you. Think he had heart failure (thinking) that I was suggesting we go ourselves? Anyway if his memory serves him well, the banyan tree al wadi was the one we liked the best. The banyan beach resort and spa is the newer of the two which had the outside bath and the villa seemed less luxurious and spacious. Enjoy! X Ahhh fantastic information - thanks so much :) You might end up with your hubby booking you two in for a surprise valentines weekend now if he is thinking that youre perhaps dropping gift hints by bringing up the resort subject hehehehe

I've been twice. The first time I liked it, not much to do but I'd never been before so just relaxed and enjoyed. The second time we stayed in a different part, newer, and have to say I was bored and to my dismay the bath was outside, in this particular villa. Whose idea was that? Really didn't appeal to me having a bubble bath in what felt like the open desert....but each to their own. Hi Neat, Its alright if there is not much to do - just wanted to find a short weekend away with nothing but relaxing on the menu :) May I ask if you remember which part was the old and new areas of the resort (were they on different sides so I could check if I end up booking) or if you recall the name of the different villa options you stayed in each time?

It is stunning! We went there last year and it was such a great experience. The rain forest is something to remember and the massages is also very good. you must try all their restaurants ifyou are going for more than one night. You will feel like you are in a different country when you are there. Thanks so much for your feedback. Feeling like we are miles away from the everyday stresses is exactly what I am looking for - even if it is just for two nights :))

SJ he did months of research before selecting that one and going through reviews etc. I will ask him later. The problem he finds is that Dubai is very bright, you really have to go right out in to the desert with it to really be able to see anything. There is a Dubai star gazing club by the way, they meet up and go into the desert with their telescopes :) I can imagine the hours of reserach of your hubby invested before buying one - I started the reserach process sometime last year with a surprise Christmas present as the intention but starting with zero knowledge I quikcly found it was too great a task to complete by the Christmas deadline.... So here I am trying again now just a couple weeks away from Valentines :) If your hubby could let you know the model type/name he ended up choosing that would be really helpful for me. Thanks so much!

Sharaf DG stock the a number of telescopes from the Celestron range but be aware they are significantly more expensive than they would be in the States or. The UK so Amazon would certainly be your friend (or perhaps Aramex). They also stock Steiner binoculars, of which we have a great pair for watching wildlife. The telescopes vary quite a bit from the basic to ones which use GPS and an digital almanac to locate the various planets and constellations for you. It would be worth checking out some of he websites which give good advice about choosing telescopes before you buy. Hi Andi, Thanks so much for your post - it has given me some great key words to start my reserach with. If you can, would be able to give me a hint regarding: Celestron telescope range - what do the decent/better ones prices start at? Binoculars - For the Steiners I would not want to be paying any less than ??? for a decent model type? Thanks for your help.

Would you be able to tell me what the name of the scope your husband chose for himself was? Was he using it for star gazing or the such? Any idea what he paid for it? <I'm running clueless here trying to find the perfect surprise gift for a very tech savvy hubby> Thanks for any help you can offer :)

They were selling female sari's this morning at the Spice souk next to deira creek for dhs30 each. All embroided and in beautiful colours. Oh that sounds nice :) Was anyone selling full outfits though for men (pants + shirt + waistcoat + hat piece etc) and women - or just lots of beautiful fabric scarves and sari's? Is the spice souk open every day of the week (normal business hours)? I'm also wondering where in Dubai I could buy some of the lovely female jewelry from - not real gold though just replica - like the head pieces, large bib neck pieces and wrist/hand pieces etc?

Hi, I need to buy two 'Bollywood' style outfits - one for a man, and one for a woman. I have had a look on the party/costume websites and see they do have a couple of options. But I was thinking - is there a store somewhere in Dubai that I can buy this style of dress from that is not from a 'party/costume shop' but instead is actually a really nice outfit made with beautiful fabric etc? I don't really want to buy fabric and go through the custom tailoring process - would just like to know if there is a store where we could go to try on some 'ready made' lovely 'traditional Indian style' clothes and buy them off the shelf at a really reasonable price. Thank you for any advice you can offer :)

Just editted my post with google directions, Sarah. Not sure how much help it is for u. Cherry you are a star! I do need to buy an actual camel blanket - with the hump hole etc. Can anyone let me know the price I should expect to pay for one though? Also - If anyone has been out to these markets recently (I see they should run from Oct-March) then it would be really great if you could let me know which day and time you were there and if the Camel Market was operating in full swing at that time. I'm sorry for all the questions - but I will need to take a taxi out there and back and it's a long way to go in a taxi if the market isn't actually open that day/time. Failing being able to get any first hand advice - I will try to give that phone number a call and see if the person on the end knows anything about the market times. Thank you for your help! :) "While this unique cultural experience is more for observors than participators – there’s no sign of camel rides or tourist tat pushers here – you can visit the nearby Camel Market to take home some unique souvenirs. Small stores sell decorative items, such as camel blankets and ropes. (To find these, drive as if you are taking the Dubai exit, but instead of taking a left onto the E66, head straight and you will see the low-level sand-coloured buildings which house these small shops)...... How to find the Track: Al Marmoom Camel Racetrack is located past the Sevens on the Dubai-Al Ain E66 Road, on the right. When you reach the Al Lisali exit take the first right off the highway. There is no signage from here, so take the first right again after the exit. Drive down the road until you see what looks like an official building (this is the first grandstand). Take a right, then a left and follow the road around to your left until you reach the second grandstand (which is where the action happens). Races run on different days through October to March at 7am and 2pm, and are set out according to the size of competing camels; the next race featuring ‘big’ camels will be on Wednesday January 18 and Thursday January 19. Call ahead a few days before your trip to check which days races are happening that week. Entry is free (04 832 6526). Yes... you will find them in Al Lissali Hi, Isn't the Lissaili one the Camel Market actually out in Al Ain though? "1. Lisaili Camel Market There is a Camel Market in a town called Lisaili that features stalls with handicrafts and trinkets as well as regular camel sales. It is next to the Dubai Racing and Camel Club on the Dubai Al Ain Road... basically drive up the road in the direction of Al Ain until you see an exit for Lisali- take this road and keep going and you will start to see hundreds of camels and eventually the market. If you carry on up this road it will eventually take you to Bab Al Shams resort- which you could visit for a refreshing juice or afternoon tea. Make sure you check it out"

I have an app on my phone called sleepmaker, i switch it on and put it behind the curtains. The one i have is rain related ( Don't laugh) and the sound of the rain lulls me to sleep and i do not here the noisy women next door! Hi, Can I ask what may be a silly question - if you have a song/white noise/music or anything that plays from your phone all night, how does your phone battery hold up? Or is it set to stop playing the noise after a certain amount of time, and that then assumes you are alseep by then. Thank you :) It finishes after a certain amount of time and my phone is plugged in to the charger I love it! It plays rain, thunder, storms, wind haha reminds me of home UK It is a free app too Hahaha, I'm sure I will love it - not certain about hubby though... Ready to try anything to drown out the constant SZR noises though :)

Well triple glazing would help for a start, but that's a major job to replace all the windows. Sadly buildings here aren't really designed to be sound proof. The thin, hollow walls are going to be your biggest culprits and you'd normally insulate them. Go and buy a good set of ear plus, or try one of those ambient noise machines to try and block out the sounds. I do hope the landlords of these villas are realising their rental worth just dropped BIG time. You need to use materials in your home that absorb sound and stop reverberation. Window plugs are a good idea, they will cover all the gaps and are useful for blacking out rooms at night. Make sure your curtains are made from heavy duty materials that absorb sound. Put rugs or carpet on the floor and you can also used specialsed wall and ceiling coverings as well. Remember to close doors and make sure your doors are snug in the frames. There are lots of little things you can do to reduce noise, but if it's really bad, you're basically looking at full on sound-proofing like turning your bedroom into a recording studio. edited by Chocs01 on 06/11/2011 edited by Chocs01 on 06/11/2011 Hi Chocs, I would really appreciate it if you could explain to me what you mean by 'window plugs'. Would also like to know if anyone has purchased an ambient or white noise machine that they recommend and where did they buy it from. Thank you very much :)

Hi Sarah, I wish I had done more research, even I placed an order with http://twinklecupcake.com and kept trying to call them. I had ordered it for my father's birthday after looking at the same article as the one you saw on 'time out dubai'. I moved to India about a month ago and wanted to surprise him. Now no one picks up my call so I began researching online and I read this post ! I haven't received any refund either. Now I'm wondering how to go about taking the refund from the seller called Nahid Nikbakht to whom the payment was made as per the e-mail I received from Pay pal. Can you provide me any details. Regards, Radhika Hi Radhika, I'm so sorry that I did not see your post in this thread and reply sooner. I hope by now you have received the refunded money sent back to you from Paypal with a note from the 'seller'...as this is what I am pretty sure happened to me a handful of days after placing/paying for the order.

I am in Bur Dubai near Burjuman. :) Hi Sahara, If you have found a happy home for these little guys already then please don't hold on to them just for me. If however you end up getting desperate and need a loving place to take them on I'll be happy to oblige. Thanks SJ for the heads up :) I found the slip which came with the other books; it says Umm Ramool Empost. Is this in Karama? I have four betta fish (aka siamese fighting fish) looking for adoption. They are really low maintenance, no air bubble or filters needed, feeding 1-2 times a day. A 2-gal fish bowl or plastic container ie critter keeper is sufficient to house one fish (the smaller the size, the more frequent water change is required). Here are the brief description for them: (age = how long they have been with me) 1) Lapis - blue color, veil tail, ~1.2 years old, very active and funny, can swim backwards like a dolphin, loves to flare 2) Sinatra - mustard green color, delta tail, ~ 9 months old, very active 3) Captain Hook - Dark blue with red streaks, half moon tail, ~ 1 y/o, very caring, spend most time building his bubble nests. Swims slow due to his heavy full fins. 4) Pinky - purple pink color, veil tail, ~ 5 months old, very active and love to swim around and around occasionally making bubble nests. email me at my username at yahoo dot com if you are interested in bringing one or all home. I can send photos. Only the fish is up for adoption, not the housing equipments. Thanks. These little guys found a home yet Sahara?

I am so sorry you are still waiting on books :( I order from the book depository uk site also and find it nice that shipping is free but frustrating there are no tracking options - not even an option to pay for an upgrade postage that would include shipping. Thought I would mention that I was waiting on a package from home that I know was put in the post in Australia over 4 weeks ago now - it just turned up last night. The address used was my buildings PO BOX, which we always use. This delayed arrival is happening often and I'm not sure if the parcels are getting stuck somewhere in the dubai post pipeline (where?!?!) or just sitting in the PO BOX for a while before authorised building staff collect them. So anyhow, the point of that above paragraph was that your books may still turn up! :)

Officially it is illegal to sell antibiotics OTC here but it is rarely enforced. Antibiotics though should not be abused as they become less effective if you constantly take them and then your natural resistance is reduced making it a difficult cycle to stop. It is always best that you seek doctors advice before taking antibiotics and therefore the restrictions. I think far too many folk out here swallow them without any consideration of what they are doing. Kids are often the ones that are stuck on them far too often for my liking. When necessary of course, they should be prescribed but not always. Hi Noddy, I completely agree with you :)

I think you can buy any antibiotic OTC here, I have never had any trouble buying my antibiotics Try this link: http://www.dubaifaqs.com/drugs-dubai.php Banned Medicines and prescription drugs including codeine When travelling to Dubai, the best thing you can do from the perspective of medicines, is to not bring any at all (toothpaste and soap should be ok). If you do need to bring medicine with you, and it is not on the banned list, then bring the prescription, and have it attested/notarised (try the UAE embassy nearest to where you live) before you travel. There have been cases of people stuck in jail waiting for a copy of a prescription to be sent over, and even then it's not guaranteed to be a "get out of jail free" card. Apart from the list of narcotics (cocaine, heroin, marijuana, etc) that are illegal in most countries, there is a list of of about 400 banned medicines in the UAE. Check with Ministry of Health or the UAE Consulate / Embassy for the most up to date information but failing that (after all, how many people actually do contact the relevant government ministries before going on holiday?) keep in mind the following are banned substances (exceptions possible when administered in UAE hospitals) and will probably land in you jail for 4 years if you're caught with them in your possession, whether or not you have a prescription: any opium based substance - for example codeine (which is available over the counter in many countries) poppy seeds qat (or gat / ghat / kat / khat, proper name Catha Edulis) - a plant usually chewed, is a prohibited drug in the UAE. This following list comes from Fair Trials International, who say they got it from the March 2007 dated General Authority for Health Services Guide to the Management of Controlled Drugs in the Private Sector. Alfentanil Amphetamine Buprenorphone Codeine Fentanyl Ketamine Methadone Methyphenidate Morphine Pentazocine Pethidine Remifentanil Sufentanil Don't assume this list is comprehensive. If you've got any medicine at all, don't bring it unless you can verify it is on a permitted list, and bring a presciption anyway. Even something as innocuous sounding as Panadol can get you into trouble (there are some over-the-counter versions that contain codeine for example). Hi Honey, Thank you for your time and for sharing that link - I had also come across that one in my searches :)

Sharaf, Jumbo, E-Max, and probably Carrefour and Geant too. Basically, almost anywhere. AC adapters aren't hard to find. Those are generic adapters, though, which will work with your appliance after you've set th dial to the correct voltage output, but will probably be a lot bulkier than the one that came with the appliance. If you're talking about buying the *exact same one* that came with the appliance, then your only choice is to order it through the manufacturer, or perhaps look on eBay or Amazon. Hi Madge, That is great news! I had been searching on the Sharaf/Carrefour/Emax/Jumbo websites and could not see any electrical accessory type products like AC adapters listed at all in their category options. I even sent a few of the stores a message asking but alas, no response. Really happy to hear they do carry them though with adjustable voltage output options. It doesn't need to be the exact product match, it just needs to not blow up when I plug it into the wall here :) You're right - I can buy a replacement for the model on amazon/ebay but was keen to grab something locally first if possible. Thanks so much for your help. Sarah.

You can get it for 230 Pounds in the UK and sometimes with 60 pounds back in vouchers . The price here is outrageous. Whoa you're right! I just checked out the UK Nespresso website: 250 British pounds sterling = 1472.0075 UAE dirhams That is a really big price difference for the same machine?!?!?! Hmmmm... :\:

hi just upgraded my nespresso machine last week. purchased the latest one they had which is the lattissima+ and couldn't be more happy with the machine. sarah joy: I watched the video on you tube (all 25min!) that you posted and from the look of it, i'm much happier with the one i got. Personally speaking if i need hot water for a tea or hot chocolate i rather just boil the kettle, so the water function is something i don't need. i can also live without the cup warmer (i just heat my glass from my hot/cold water dispenser or tap). Lastly it makes no difference with me where the water tank is located, but i do refill it at least once a day as we drink lots of coffee. Everything else is the exactly the same. As for the price tag 2700Dhs moose: you can get the capsules from the store. if you purchase more than ten boxes at a time, they do free delivery to your door. hope this was helpful xx Hi steth, That is great information - thanks so much! Price tag is high but at least now I can have a good think before I decide to walk into the nespresso store and am greeted by a super salesman. I saw the dulce at Waitrose for about AED$700 and that's a big difference from lattissima asking price.
