Well we tried St Regis and loved it. My only teeny criticism is the children's food and play area is far away from the general seating but other than that, def a winner! Food awesome, staff great, and good price.

We have been here a month. I can't get my 4 year old a place in school so am therefore having to look for kinde. Does anyone know any good ones, ideally around HMC/Hamad General? Though I suspect that they are all full too. I know there is a list on this site, but it doesn't give enough detail to help me with the info I need. Beginning to despair, but can't do anything about it. Thanks.

Any updates from you? We arrived last month and are staying in temporary accomm in Al Saad. As a family, it is perfectly fine, with one or two issues, but great great location. We are waiting for RP's then hope to move into a villa. I have heard that there is still not much availability so hope something happens in next 4 weeks or so. For now, resigned to Christmas and New Year in 2 bed apartment.

Hi. Thanks for your reply. Sorry for the delay, keep forgetting I need to check back for replies. I don't know how to PM you or whether I even can. Can we take this privately? My email is michaelavickers@hotmail.com Couple of things spring to mind - not sure if there is a cut off age wise, I will need to check up on that. We plan to stay in Qatar 7 years if all goes well so would hate to lose her after a year or two. What nationality are you? What nationality is your maid? Where abouts do you live? We have 2 girls aged 4 and 2 and a small dog. Thanks.

I am currently in Abu Dhabi moving to Doha in November and like everyone else, am having trouble getting school places. Abu Dhabi was difficult but Doha is more so. My DD is 4 so I would really be looking for a start in Jan 2014 in Term 2 or for the following September. Just about all the British schools are saying don't even apply as admissions closed, full with waiting lists. From what I have picked up, most people apply to several schools so when the time comes, they will only take 1 offer leaving the others with availability. What is frustrating when you are not in Doha, is that they all have school tours on different days and are so inflexible - they clearly don't need to attract parents as all places are oversubscribed. I am also finding that most schools are closed over Summer (unlike in Abu Dhabi) so getting information now is difficult. I would appreciate information on Newton as they are opening a new campus in September and are advertising for admissions. Unfortunately their 'contact us' page doesn't work so I have tried emailing and await a response. I don't know if I am in a better position looking for a place in Jan or not, but not 1 school has even suggested to keep in touch in case of dropouts for term 2. Anyway it is what it is and stressing actually won't help. I have to keep reminding myself of this though. I of course am also interested in DC, Doha British School or DESS. Thanks

Hi all. Thank you for your replies. I haven't got any place yet in school. I know how difficult that can be but hope for mid year availability! Have to start optimistic. LOL. Anyway if I don't get her a place in January, I will aim for the following September. I know Doha pretty well and know the dire traffic - joy. Thanks for your suggestions, I will check them out.
