Both my boys have been at EC for the last 7 years. My younger one went from Year 1 and is now in Year 7 at the Secondary. My older son is now in Year 11 sitting his GCSE's. I have loved the school and have nothing but good to say about it. The Primary is small which is why I believe there is such a waiting list. The whole of the Primary school has the same amount of children as most Gems schools have in FS1 & FS2 only. This for me was a factor. I loved the fact that the Primary was just big enough that I felt it had a more personal feel. The teachers from Year 5 & 6 and the kids for example knew my boys by name when they were in Years 1 onwards. The younger kids get to know the older kids in the playground and they all seem to know each other personally so it has a great feel. The support from the teachers and head have been great over the years and yes we do not have all of the fancy mod con facilities but EC still manages to compete and Win frequently in most competitive sports here in Dubai with other schools. Obviously the feed through to the Secondary is also great. After 2 years of being here both my boys were offered places in Jess at Arabian Ranches which is where I stay but I chose to keep them where they were as they were doing so well and were so happy that the 30 minute drive is worth it.... They continue to thrive!!

Hi, My maid came to Dubai on a tourist visa and then once she was here we transferred it to a normal visa. She was the cousin of my friends maid and I like you wanted someone who had been recommended as I had friends who had went through an agency and weren't happy with the outcome. Normally they know someone who can arrange this at their end and you will foot the bill....It does add an added cost but it's worth it if you are getting who you want. I think there are also companies here in Dubai who can organise the tourist visa...I would ask my maid but she is on vacation at the moment.. Sorry!

I must have been at a different Sandance to everyone else. Shocked by this comments. Thought the VIP platform was very crowded but the VIP section on the beach in front of the stage was fab! No queues at the bar, no fights, just people having fun listening to great music! Yes one VIP toilet was out of commission for about an hour but there wasn't big lines at the other one so wasnt a big deal. Richard Ashcroft was amazing....just him and his guitar! And we wasn't there to see Oasis...that band no longer exists so why would anyone expect Noel to spend the night signing Oasis songs he didn't even sing when the band was together. He sang 5 or 6 B side Oasis songs which was what he done when they were together and his new stuff is great which is what he's obviously trying to promote!! He's always been a bit sulky looking but that's just him....His voice was great and his band sounded FAB! Everyone came on at exactly the times listed so yes there was a wait by it all went with the schedule so don't think you can complain about that! I ordered safe driver to take me home, left at midnight, was in my house in the Ranches by half past! Great night! Hate when people complain about nothing...which a lot of people on here do!

For my Nanny's 90th a few year ago now we also struggled as she had years of photos of family etc. We ended up hiring a Limo and taken her on a memory filled trip. Started off at the house where she was born and visited her schools, where she worked, the area she met my grandfather, where she was married, first house etc etc. It was a great trip and you could see her remembering all the important things that had happened in her lifetime. We as grandchildren also got some great insight into her younger life. Was a wonderful 4 hours!

Two years ago my 14 year old son came into the house with a snake he had found in the garden. Quickly proceeded to put it in a carrier bag and went to give it to the security guard at the gate. He refused to take it and made me call his supervisor. I kid you not when I say 4 guards arrived in a car and they made me put it into the boot of the car. You would have thought it was a bomb by their faces!! Then last year I was bitten by a snake whilst out walking the dog. Put my hand down into bushes to pick up what the dog had left and obviously scared the snake. I went to Medcare hospital because it was closest and they sent me to Rashid for anti venom injection along with a few other injections for good measure. Both incidents happened in the Ranches!!

Hi, The ID office is attached to the big Emirates Post Office at Karama. If you follow the signs for Karama from SZR, once you are in Karama you go straight through 2 small round abouts and then past the LULU supermarket, take a right and then left at the traffic lights it is there on your right hand side.... If it is for fingerprinting appointment you can also go to Room F22, Building 12 in Knowledge Village without an appointment but it is on a first come first serve basis so first thing in the morning is the best time....

Hi, If you haven't already booked your tickets for the concert then call any of the hotels on the Yas Plaza and ask for the price for a Yas Island Show Weekend. I have just booked for Janet Jackson and got such a good deal that I had to phone back about 3 times to make sure it was right before I booked. 2 nights Bed & Breakfast for 2 guests sharing a room and 2 VIP Fan Pitt Tickets for 1500 Dhs. Tickets alone are 665 Dhs EACH if bought seperately with a 20 Dhs booking fee so basically got 2 nights bed and breakfast for 130 Dhs!! This is for the Park Inn. Radisson & Crowne Plaza were the same deal for 1600 Dhs and the Yas hotel 2200 Dhs again for the same deal......

Kelly's right. As long as you have a letter saying it is under process there are no problems. You can even get Dewa/Du etc connected with that letter if your visa still isn't ready when it get's to that point. ;o)

Hi Ladies, I was wondering is someone could give me directions to the above nursery. I have tried calling and emailing nearly everyday last week but with no response so thinking they are maybe closed until tomorrow for start of term. Going to go directly there from Greenfields drop off so directions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, I work for a relocation company here in Dubai and have some great contacts although they are all agents. You will struggle to get a villa without having to pay commission as Landlords do not want to have the hassle of going to viewings etc so it is easier for them to have agents renting their properties. Also, in EH they will pay a minimum of around 500k for a nice 5/6 bedroom. Although they will have a driver, I'm sure they do not want their children sitting in a car for a few hours a day if they can get a house close by the school they will be attending. Children here have early starts and long days at school so a shorter journey to school is always better. Also with homework, after school activities etc, it is better to be closer to home. Find out what school they will be attending and I'll pass on some good agents numbers to you in areas closest. :0)

Hi, I bought an iphone 4 from the Du shop in Media City last week for 2495 dirhams. They have a deal at the moment that you get one year free data package. I was paying 200 dirhams a month for my data package so over the year it means i'm getting the phone for free. x
