Sorry lovingthesun, but you are wrong! Selective usually (and always in Dubai) means academic criteria has been met. JESS, DESS and JAPS are academically selective as are DC and JC. NA is not I'm afraid. Be happy with your choice of school but please do no try to make out it is something its not. My opinion is not something I've pulled out of the sky, it's based on the facts. JESS, DESS and JAPS are not academically selective. Entry is at foundation stage and apart from the schools viewing their interaction with other children I am unaware of any further selection process that the children undertake for these schools. What facts do you have to back up your opinion?

Dubai English College is almost opposite the Oasis Centre on other side of Sheik Zayed Road. They do have a primary school but a lot of kids who attend Jebel Ali Primary feed directly into Dubai English College. You are referring to the English College. Children from Jebel Ali do not feed directly into the English College, they have to apply to the school and be accepted. As English College already have their own primary intake this leaves limited numbers available for external entrants. This is the case in a number of secondary schools with primary intake and can make it difficult for external entrants to gain admission to these secondary schools. JAPS offers a great primary education and the children enter various secondary schools in year 7, however their entrance is not assured. This is an important consideration to make if considering Dubai for the long term.

That's a HUGE budget for a 3 bed apartment. You could easily rent a 3 bed apartment and send 2 kids to a British curriculum secondary school for AED 250k a year. British curriculum primary schools range from approx AED 27k to AED 44 a year and secondary schools from AED 44k to over AED 70k. 3 bed apartments from AED 80k a year upwards. Jebel Ali Primary has a good reputation and feeds into Dubai English College for secondary. Jebel Ali Primary School is an excellent school however it does not feed directly into a secondary school. If you intend to remain in Dubai for the long term this may be worth considering. As far as secondary schools go I am not aware of a Dubai English College only Dubai College which has selective entry. Entrance to Dubai English Speaking College is from their feeder school Dubai English Speaking School, however they also accept external entrants.
