Hi there, I would say make sure you have a clear schedule, written done and stuck on the fridge with goals/tasks you expect your nanny to achieve. This includes meals/snacks for the day, nap time, play time, learning time etc. You want to take the thinking out of it all and let your nanny get on with it. By doing this you at-least (fingers crossed) protect your child from being plonked in-front of the tv the whole day. Thanks for the tips :) it helps to have a clear schedule in place - will be mindful of that for sure.

There are heaps of things to do in Dubai and surrounding area: Dubai: Bastakia, Sheikh Rashid House, pearl diving centre etc The Big bus tour is great and incorporates the Dubai Museum and also the souls in Deira including the Spice Souq and Perfume Souq Abra ride (you can park in Deira and cross the creek by abra and walk up to the Dubai museum through the Souq) Burj Khalifa viewing deck Dubai Mall fountain show Desert Safari - if you don't have time for the full safari including BBQ dinner, you can just organise a sunrise safari or morning safari without the camp activities Dhow dinner cruise Hatta trek - half day or full day with lunch at the hotta fort hotel Global Village - always interesting but is time consuming if you are pressed for time Abu Dhabi: Sheikh Zayed Mosque Palace Hotel Al Ain: Al Ain zoo - a really good zoo (as far as zoos go) is animal friendly Drive up Jebel Hafeet That was really helpful - thanks :)

Mssassy, Have you checked out bobbi brown yet ? i've been using it for a very long time - post birth times as well :) and i love their primer too. Bobbi brown sticks/liquid foundation give you good coverage as i have uneven skin on my face and it looks great - but not a dewy look though. Can the ladies out there please suggest what foundations give a lovely fresh dewy look please :)

Hey Dusha, I know exactly what you are going through as my daughter is the exact same. She is however 13months. Shes been a little better the past two week but thats because i have done what most of the ladies have suggested below. I totally stopped feeding her with a spoon and I let her touch and experiment the food herself, it just a way they learn how to eat. She was used to purè food for so long she just did not know that you could eat lumpy things too. Everyone always told me shes still young don't worry about lumps, this was my mistake. I also found my daughter was more wi lying to try the food if i walked away and left her too it. I also cut out all biscuits and crisps as she always knew that that would be my second option. Also make sure he sits at the table and watches you eat, let him take food of your plate, look at him and tell him "mmm this is tasty" he might stick his nose up at it as does my girl but even if he puts a little bit in his mouth its a good thing, taste buds develop that way. I leave pasta, meatballs, chips, rice, raisons and fruit on her table....she will only eat fruit comfortably but its a start...never stop offering it to them. I know its a messy experience but its just a way they learn. Be firm and say no when they throw it...it will stop eventually. Let us know how you get on, good luck xx My daughter is almost 15 months now and turned fussy all of a sudden :) and i realised that rather than feeding her - it was easier to let her feed herself. Meal times became a lot better although bit more messy. I believe as one of the ladies mentioned - kids like texture and want some kind of independence - so making the food look attractive with different colored fruits or different textures like crispy or squishy etc - and letting them eat on their own helps. I worried too because i felt her potion sizes were too small compared to what i used to feed her as puree - but what worked was having several small meals at throughout the day - so its fun for the baby and also she gets her potion sizes :)

Wow nice to see that i am also not alone left wondering when on earth i am going to get some "me time" To be quite honest i feel some men think it is our fulltime job to babysit and hence help out less. But then there are others who are more than willing to help with baby sitting etc. Maybe you could talk to your husband and make him understand that you both need some time for yourselves to re energize. You could try simple things for yourself like : get a salon home service : i would suggest trying "feel pink ladies salon" they do a home service anywhere in dubai and are quite good. Treat yourself to a pedi or a massage etc - helps you relax. watch a movie you love when everyone gone to bed my favourite is the early morning hours - when everyone is asleep - i get about 2 hours of me time - having a cup of tea and catching up on the news and ofcourse "expat woman" :) simple pleasure that you enjoy doing - try to make some time for you. It is very important as it will relax you and help with getting back to daily chores. Do whatever that makes you happy :) hope this helps.

i was told by a friend to leave turmeric powder on their trail or on/near their nest. Tried it and it WORKED !!! FINALLY!!! i have no idea how it works but the ants didn't come anywhere near the turmeric powder and the next day i saw very little. Maybe give it a go and let us know if it worked :) seems like most people are having ant issues these days :) could it be the weather ?? ;p

The only pests we have are those tiny ants that have been around recently! Have tried ant traps but they are too small to get caught in them! I'm having the same problem with the tiny pesty ants !!! they get into everything !! i have a 12 month old daughter and not sure about using pest control either :s so i followed the ants to their nests and destroyed it with boiling water, not easy to find all but it did work after several attempts. I've also read that borax powder works but have not tried it. I think it is better to be cautious about using pest control especially when you have a baby. If you do use it though , do let me know how long you had to stay away.

Honestly I don't know how one can expect a nanny/ maid to work for any less than 3k. If she is good she will work hard for you so deserves to be paid well in return. How can one expect her to have a fair standard of living including eating well on a salary as low as is mentioned here. A western expat wilmlsepnd more that 1000 aed on a brunch for 2!!!! The suggested rates of pay suggest below should be reviewed! edited by Norts on 28/07/2013 Please do not turn the thread into a debate on domestic rights. She simply wanted to know the salary, nothing else. Agree with you :)

Maybe try distracting your little one when you feed - with a new toy or some fiddly gadgety toy or maybe play her favourite dvd's or rhymes etc. My daughter who was always ok with home cooked food started spitting out every single thing i fed her, i tried the above and it seemed to work. Hope this helps :)

Mosquitoes !! they are the worst ! my little one had so many bites and the skin looked terrible when we were done with our trip. Take as many precautionary measures as you can against the mosquitoes. Apart from that nothing scary or unsafe :)

Hello lovely ladies Just need some advice/tips from all the mums out there. So i have a 15 month old and i am a stay at home mum. One would think being a stay at home mum with only 1 child is easy peasy, but unfortunately it is not ! I often find that i have very little time for myself - long gone are the days where i could take long showers, bubble baths and alot more :( Its not to say i do not take care of myself, i do my best but its not the same as before my little girl was born. So id like to reach out to all the mum's out there and ask them how do you do it ? How do you manage time for the baby and yourself ? How do you take care of your beauty regime and health ? how do you make time for friends or going out ? please do share your valuable tips :)

All the fabric shops are good in their own way.. depends on what sort of fabric you want. There are many all on one street so you just have to pop into a few. Sunrise is the tailor I personally use. He is behind the municipality building. Inbetween the mosque and gas station near the fabric shops. Thanks roysie, looking for chiffon material, do you know any good fabric shops by name ?

Hi Shiran, How about giving guests little BMW cookies? You could add a thank you tag for attending the party. You can have them made at a few different bakeries/ cupcakeries here in Dubai. http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=bmw+cookies&view=detail&id=C7AAD69A3136B5F38B75F668319A08FDC067FECF&FORM=IDFRIR Yes thanks :) i have thought of that, its a very good idea!

I used a mothercare brand umbrella folding type stroller last month during our holiday abroad. I believe there were two designs available, one a flowery pink and the other jungle green. It was truly very handy as i was using a quinny stroller before that, which was quite bulky and took up quite a lot of space. this is light weight and folds very easily. Only thing i am unsure about is whether it is suitable for a 3 month old. You might have to check on that. Hope this helps.

My son is a year old. He hates the small playpen we have, so although he has run of the downstairs (it's babyproofed as much as possible), we have ordered a much much larger playpen from Ebay, which we will pick up on our way back from our hol. I need space from him, I don't want him to join me in the toliet etc. I also need it so I can have a shower alone, and for our dog to have his food and water without my son getting to it. Hope this helps. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160982141728?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 The one on that link looks very good!! alot more room than the smaller ones at baby shops.

Honestly I think one is a bit old for a play pen, I think you'd be better off spending your money on toddler proofing your house and a couple of stair gates to block off any dangerous areas ( like one on the kitchen door, one bottom of stairs etc). I just can't see an over one year old happily playing confined within such a small space. Thanks kiwispiers, something to think about.
