Hi, does she have a facebook page? I'd love to see her work. I went to a hair salon the other day and now have choppy, blunt, ugly layers. In need of major damage control now! Try Ali at Slam near Ace hardware on SZR One of the best hairdressers in Dubai and always gets recommendations on here from ladies I would be loath to try a hairdresser that only one lady has recommended. I have known Ali as a hairdressers for 4 years and she is brilliant with all colours/lengths. She will sort you out as she has sorted a couple of my disasters out before. Very affordable too Too scared now. I trusted a friend who told me she goes to them and it's been 10 years bla bla, and my hair is stuffed :( I want to see their work now before I actually let them do anything :( Does Ali have a fb page or something? I even went to Toni and Guy, paid a ridiculous amount, and she couldn't do layers properly. Went to my hometown, paid a fraction of what Ipaid at toni and guy, and she knew EXACTLY what she was doing. There was one choppy layer, all the other salons were like, 'oh, it's fine, don't worry about it!' This one picked it up instantly. I'm waffling. I just want a trim, a little trim. Pretty please. Ali is with a salon called Slam, she is one of the best hairdressers in Dubai. SLam got a Facebook page.

Her name is Emma Inkpin and her number is 056 201 4068. She was fabulous. Does she have a trade licence? If not she can face some hefty fines.

There was a job posting here for a nursery secretary or something. That would be an ideal type of job as she can keep her daughter in the same nursery while she's working. I doubt it pays enough to be able to rent something decent and most of those positions wants someone on husbands visa.

TripAdvisor is good for recommendations. I have never been, as whenever I wanted to go it's been a queue and now I have lost interest after having a sneak peek at the diners plates. It looks like any American diner, oversized normal food.

Singlemum, it must be so hard. I guess you can't go to your home country, otherwise I guess you would have. Can you get your son into a cheaper school or find cheaper accommodation, to borrow money is so risky here if you can't pay it off. Are there opportunities for you in other countries where schooling is free? I honestly don't know how single parents manage here and what a terrible father, I can't believe how anyone can just leave their child without support. I really hope you find some support or help.

I agree with most parts, apart from the indoor part (except the hot summer months ). Where do you live? There are areas you easily can walk and spend a lot of times outdoor. October -May, I rarely put a foot in the mall, apart from the cinema and grocery shopping. We are able to live here because of the construction (DH work), so I worry for the day it stops. There are restaurants that are very reasonable, try some Lebanese or Indian restaurants that aren't in a mall or hotel.

Yes activities are another mortgage! Shop around; if they want to do swimming for example, check a few different companies, as prices do vary. Take advantage of afterschool activities the school organise; as they are mostly free. Get them in to cheap things you can do together without having to pay for a lesson each time, running and bike rides are good.

Cargo in Pier7 does a children's brunch on Fridays, 30 dhs per child. There is a play area adjacent to the kiddie brunch and mums and dads can order the normal a la carte.

wow !! why would you even think in those terms ? You saw a woman and you thought she was "ugly" ?? Why is it even in question ? People are people, why would you need to decide whether they are ugly or beautiful ? Have you never seen an ugly woman or man? It doesn't make them a bad person, but not everyone is easy on the eye. Yes, but there's what you would call "ugly" and what you would call overweight and badly dressed. Not the same thing in my opinion. The poster never said the woman was either overweight or badly dressed. I think Doubting Thomas was commenting on Adventure B's post. Nothing mentioned on being overweight or badly dressed.

Facebook groups are good. Check if there is any for your nationality in Dubai, lots of people are sharing apartments all over Dubai. It's not 100 % lega to share accommodation;but as long as the tenants don't cause any problems they are normally fine. It's a rule in place that sharing isn't aloud and I think it's to prevent 10 bachelors sharing a one bedroom for example. Dubizzle is a good place to advertise for sharing a flat.

I don't think we should accept the 'junk food revolution' at all! This promotes being unhealthy and I would strongly disagree that people are becoming more accepting of it - when chains like McD's are closing 100's of outlets across the US - people are in fact shunning the fast food culture. Having curves is fine, but I don't think being too curvacious to the point of being unhealthy should be encouraged, nor celebrated. Even though McDonald's are closing; new more sophisticated fast food outlets are opening up; like in Dubai there is Sheikh Shack for example. There was a celebrity in the UK that said, obese people should feel uncomfortable and not be able to buy nice clothes in any high street shop, as they feel they are normal when they can fit into nice clothes. I think it's far too easy and acceptable to be overweight in countries like the UK. Curvy is used a lot for obese people. Curvy shouldn't be the same as being fat. I don't think the woman in the article looks healthy, she looks a bit overweight, so not really a good role model. I have to disagree with you. I am already my ideal weight of being healthy.... But despite losing 15kgs, my busy size is still 36D .... Despite walking, eating healthy my bump is still 38, my waist is however 27 and this is the lowest I could every have because of my bone structure. Due to my "curves" I still am unable to fit into normal sizes, because small is "too small" for my busy and medium is very lose for my waist. I wear whatever fits on my bust and Due to this, I still look chubby or fat, when I am not. No matter how hard I try I always struggled to lose fat deposits from these parts. I am fit and have a strong stamina, it's kind of weird when ppl still call me "big" when I am not. I forgot to tell, I am just 155 cm. I am happy the way I am... Still trying to lose some more just to be more healthier. I don't know if I explained what I meant well. Smartee, it sounds like you are curvy in a healthy way; which is great! I criticised that curvy is being used, when someone is clearly obese and people are making it acceptable or even glamorising obesity, by saying that the person is curvy, instead of obese.

The first day (Arafat Day) is not normally a holiday for us but I think the night before that is dry. So that is expected (I think) to be on 22nd so the dry night would be 21st. I think we will be off on 23rd and 24th. Like any holiday here though, this will not be confirmed until usually the week before, so to be safe it may be better to plan your party well away from these dates. :) Thanks, the birthday is actually the 23rd and I feel such a cheap skate moving the celebration because of the holidays ?. I promised to take them out somewhere nice for dinner and it will not be on the actual birthday. I booked a restaurant the 25th...

When I didn't have a satisfying home life with small children, I got a job, 50 % of my salary went to child care. I don't regret it, otherwise I wouldn't have any work experience here in the UAE, which I think is important if you want to get a foot in the job market one day. And just to be able to have a chat and a coffee with colleagues made a difference for my miserable everyday life.

We are planning a grand farewell for one of our friends. Party locations that can accommodate 100 or so guests is what I'm looking for. Obviously the service must be good, with good food and a good sound system. My budget does not exceed beyond 70-80 AED per person. I need the place to be somewhere in Dubai preferably in the Karama -Bur Dubai- Deira area. Other party ideas are also welcome :) Just walk in any decent sized restaurant in the area and they will find something within your budget.

I wouldn't gift a specific facial before a wedding, everyone's skin is different and some get a reaction after having one, definitely go with a gift certificate at a Spa and she can choose what to do. If you go to an experienced beautician who analyses the skin before the treatment as well as uses good products there shouldn't be any issues. Most people get a little bit red if extracting impurities but that clams down within a day. It makes a big difference to the skin to have regular facials. Doh, yes I had facials before and knows how it works, wasn't particularly happy with Beauty Within, bought a Groupon there before and don't think it's a place for somewhere a bit special. Service was so so and the same went for the facial. I've been there recently and I found it a nice and relaxing experience. I was talking to the new owner and she's changed a lot of things after taking over. I wasn't primarily there for a facial, that was a bit of a treat while I was there getting my hair back into prime condition after another place butchered it a few months ago. I'm not going to mention any names though... Good luck to them, they have changed owner a few times...

I second Dr Chantal kengo at Dr Michaels, she is amazing with children and babies. Very experienced, wouldn't trust anyone else Yes its excellent. The children's clinic is really nice for young ones, I like that even the dental chair is smaller. It's on the expensive side, but as the paranoid mum I am I rather hand over all my money to feel safe.

Is the American curriculum really easier than the British? Has anyone tried both especially at the younger stages? We moved from American to British in the younger years and yes I would say its a myth that the American is easier than the British. ( The reason for moving is that the father is British and we could not get her in a British School the first years ) . I even had mums asking if my child had learned anything in the American school, as she had heard they don't learn anything in the American school. My child was on the higher level of all subjects in the British School, so it was clear she must have learned something.

Just received a text message from a mobile phone number claiming to be from a man called "Sushant" from "Emirates NBD" calling me Sir, and saying I can contact him via WhatsApp or email. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Just in the hopes that I'm not the only one.. Anyone else? What did/do you do? Feel like texting back and saying b*gger off or I'll pass your number onto the coppers  I had this happening with Etisalat, they were going to give me a free phone, I just had to give this guy passport /visa copy, credit card copy both sides. He had an Etisalat logo on What's up messaging me. And he could meet me anywhere apart from Etisalat it seemed like.... And I was going to receive the phone a week after, when they had proceeded with the application.

Hi, I am new to this forum. I dont know if still you are looking for Hotels for Afternoon Tea. I would like to suggest lockevent.com - a portal for celebrating events. You can find number of options for your celebrations & get quotes from all the Hotels in Dubai. I know this because, I have celebrated my son's 4th birthday by selecting Hotel & getting quotes through lockevent.com. Since budget is very important for us we should seek different Hotels & through lockevent.com it is very easy. This is what I feel. This has to be the worst recommendation on here, where the heck are you recommending me to have tea? And because of this I will avoid your company at all costs for future events!

These comments are a little unfair - they said at the outset prices would be adjusted monthly depending on global price movements. Fuel prices change regularly in most other markets, and people manage to budget regardless. True, it sometimes change daily in Europe.

I don't like to wear see through blouses either and many times you don't know until you are out somewhere bright. Paul Smith and Thomas Pink are good. I also found one in H&M, but generally find their blouses are a bit see through. In Europe I like Esprit, but find the Dubai stores stock really poor. Tshirts is a real struggle too...I am buying some of the more plain ones from sport shops for everyday use.

The only caveat I would add to whether it will be dry or not is because Christmas is a Christian holiday and of course the Prophet's birthday is not - there may be a decision made in favour of the Prophet. Admittingley not having the widest knowledge of Islam and celebrations. Is that a day many Muslims would go out for a meal at a restaurant; then it would be a problem celebrating Christmas. If not I think they will go for the easiest way to make $$$. Or maybe Christmas will be moved a day....I can't see it not being celebrated. I often see Muslims taking part too; queuing to meet Santa at Wafi, even seen some at Christmas dinner, had my local neighbour putting Christmas decoration on his car ?. I find it awesome with a bit of cross cultural!

Finding a suitable maid/nanny is extremely stressful. We don't have space for someone to live in and it seems like the visa fees etc cost a lot of money. Surely there must be SOME reliable agencies out there who can find me someone they accommodate etc, in return for a monthly fee which includes that person's salary?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. There are agencies providing this service, Howdra is one and from memory they charge 3,500 dhs per month.
