How about if you leave Dubai with a credit card bill/ loan but continue to pay it off once you have returned to your home country? I am transferring back with my job but won't be able to clear the debt for a few months. I would think that would be ok. Could you somehow check with your bank?

I was worried about the same thing but I've been told that hotels would more than likely be given special permission to serve alcohol as Dubai doesn't want to put off the sheer number of tourists that visit over Christmas. Hope it's true! I think it's true, I know there has been cases before, think it was supposed to be dry during the Grand Prix last year and they were aloud to serve during the event anyway. I am going for the food, so not bother either way, but know it would put off a lot of people going out and I don't think they want to take the risk to loose that much money. We went to Conrad last year, food and drinks were amazing (Veuve Clicquot champagne ). Only thing lacking a bit was entertaining, could have been a bit more things going on.

I agree with Jumeirah Beach Hotel. Wild Wadi is literally a 3 minute walk from the hotel. You can go in and out of the waterpark as you please. At the hotel, they have a family-only pool w/ a covered kids pool area and indoor kids club attached. They had a summer residents deal going on which was something like 800 dhs a night (including breakfast). A steal considering you'd pay that much just to get into Wild Wadi (we're a family of 5). If you do this deal, I highly recommend that you go to WW in the morning then leave and eat lunch at one of the hotel restaurants. Then you can come back to WW in the afternoon and stay until closing. The food selection at WW is awful and ridiculously expensive for the quality. Honestly I wish we had done this deal every year since we've lived here. It's absolutely fantastic! That's excellent, breakfast is really good at JBH as well and normally 160 dhs pp ( treated my mum not long ago ).

Hi ladies, just wondering if anyone has heard of or had their hair done by a woman named Emma from Pineapple cuts? She's reasonably priced and comes to your house? I am planning on getting mine done but just wondered what other people's experience was. Thanks I did a quick Google and didn't find any company called pineapple cuts, so guessing it's not a legal registered company. I wouldn't use it.

Atlantis and Jumeirah Beach Hotel both got waterparks attached. Jebel Ali Beach resort is great for kids too. Kids club, long beach and peacocks at the ground. There is also a stable to see horses or ride them.

Dubizzle is ok. The car has to be tested at RTA before a transfer anyway. Dubizzle is great for secondhand cars and there are some bargains to be had but there are also some sharks out there. The RTA test is OK for basics but if I was buying a car privately I would take it to somewhere like AAA in Al Quoz for them to do a more thorough check. They charge 400 - 600 but money well spent in my view. RTA does a more extensive test as well, that takes about an hour and they even drive away the car. I can't remember the price, ,but it wasn't too bad.

Went to the One and Only Royal Mirage last year and it was lovely. 99 each, plenty to eat and a good choice of teas/coffee. Wow, I did One and Only years ago and it was 99 dhs back then, amazed it's still so reasonable. That might actually be the one. I remember they had some delicious homemade sweets with the tea....

Fortnum & Masons at Dubai Mall do afternoon tea. Here's a round up of afternoon tea from what's on Dubai magazine http://whatson.ae/dubai/knowledge/402/best-afternoon-tea-in-dubai/ Fortnum & Mason isn't cheap though, I have done it, although nice I don't want to spend that amount, as I am paying for 6 people.

It's always nicer with two nights. We have done some short breaks and one was for one night and you check in at 3pm and out at 12 pm, it's nothing really.

Firstly, is she actually a trained nanny? If she isn't I would minimise her responsibilities with your child and make her focus on cleaning duties and maybe food preparation.

You could get Timeout kids, they usually have lots of good ideas. Softplays are good. Modesh world. Explorer centre in Mirdiff CC. Water splash play in JBR, early morning should be ok. Ski Dubai snow park. Iceskating. Old Library in Mall of the Emirates.

At the risk of showing my age on the board, I have to say one of the funniest thread ever was a lady having a sick maid and the maid started to take the mickey a bit; as she would only eat mangos which the madam of the house had to slice ??? CouchPotato mentioned it somehow.

Sounds good, the skirt should be below the knee. And maybe change the blouse for another colour, nothing to dramatic the first day until you get a feel for the office dress code. Generally I feel white, black and grey shades work. Not too tight fitting with no or little cleavage. Some bangles or necklace to brighten up your outfit.

These are dinosaur rules. To any new comers don't feel intimidated and don't follow these silly rules; things weren't better before ; as much as some posters are like; the old days it was so good, believe me they moaned about how much better life was before expatwoman.com excited at the old days that supposedly was so much more amazing and interesting than now.

Yes you can recycle, but it's still very much a novelty here and much more should be done. If you go to some European countries, almost every brings their own bags to the shop. People bring flasks for take away coffees. Restaurants recycle. The bins for bin collection are half the size of what we have in Dubai and pick up is maximum once a week. People should use less toxins cleaning their homes We all have to start with ourselves, sometimes is easy to blame others , but we are all part of the circle. Just the amount of plastic the supermarkets use to wrap things in the deli. I tell them not to wrap plastic around the plastic container. If I go to a food court, I remove things I will not use like salt and pepper and even the paper sheet on the tray. We are all part of this and it will not help, by removing an indoor ski centre. I do get it that it would be better to offer Dubai as a more sustainable tourist destination, unfortunately people wants theme parks and water parks as part of their holiday and Dubai economy depends on tourism.

http://7days.ae/its-august-and-weve-already-used-the-earths-resources-for-this-year/68420 Getting rid of Ski Dubai would be a great start...... At least Ski Dubai contribute to something positive, people can keep fit there during the summer. Recycling and green energy here is hardly existing. Put pressure on people to use public transport and widen their transport network. People should live closer to work and schools.

I guess this is a "cultural" issue and I am sorry to say, but their will never be a right time to leave. Your husbands parents think they "owe "your family. The best thing would be if your husband "lost "his job and had to move to another country and he could send some money to them for support. One reason I'm an expat, as I have a MIL that's going to have a say in everything@

The main question here is: Do any of these places do PROPER traditional clotted cream? Because when I had a Cream Tea at the Waldorf Astoria, they brought out a little dish of squirty cream - _ - and blueberry jam - _ - Not the traditional strawberry or raspberry. I am going for the clotted cream, so they better ? Surprised Waldorf didn't have proper clotted cream, as so far I have not been disappointed.

The High Tea at the Farm is AED 210 per stand that can be shared by two... with one drink per person... They say it is to be shared by two but we had three to four people share one and just paid for the extra drinks... It was quite filling Sounds good, I would probably order one stand for 2, as they have big appetites ?

They haven't done a desert safari before, personally I would rather do Al Hadeerah, I took them for lunch at Bab al Shams last time they visited Dubai, but they want the dune ride followed by dinner. I told them food would be a lot better at Al Hadeerah... I might just stick with Arabian Nights at least I know it's not a disaster.

The afternoon tea at THE FARM Al Barari is also quite lovely... they don't serve alcoholic drinks at all (not licensed) but have a wide range of tea, juices, coffee, etc. It looks nice, alcohol isn't important. Do you remember the price?

I am booking for late September. I have done Platinum Heritage tour in the morning , but my visitors wants the entertainment etc and the food is important. It only says light meal for the evening tour that is in the Entertainer. It was a while ago, I went to a regular one. Arabian Nights I guess was what they are looking for. I have also tried Oasis tours (poor food ) and Arabian Adventure (expensive and crowded camp ).

Swimming and activities like that are mostly classed as afterschool activities, although I would say the majority of 3 year olds wouldn't have started school, they are mostly enrolled in nurseries at least part time.

Hi! I hope the moms suggesting homeschooling isn't possible for a full time mom are homeschoolers themselves!! I have been homeschooling my 3 kids (10, 8 and 6y) for years now, and I can tell you, homeschooling your children is the best way to accomadate your full time work! :) Homeschool is tailored to YOUR family. Who says you can't do math at 6pm after dinner?! Or do the bulk of the academics on weekends? Or whatever suits you and your kids! As for the comment about teachers getting training for years before being able to teach.... Most of that training is to handle 20 plus kids bouncing off each other! If a teacher can handle 25 kids at one time, I never get how people can think a mother can't handle her own (3) kids. We do eclectic homeschooling... Meaning we don't follow one style/curriculum. We order books/ curriculum from all over the world, whatever strikes our fancy. The advantage of following a set curriculum is that it takes away (from the mom) having to plan out the academics. But the cost of these set curriculums is always very high, plus it still keeps you boxed in. (Spend that money on activities, instead of worksheets that you can find online for free.;) ) Homeschooling without strict curriculum gives you and your kids the power to chose what and how you will learn. You just need to find out your country's guidelines about homeschooling, ( for once you go back...) all of which are posted online! I'm sure there must be a homeschool group in your area...if not, feel free to ask me any questions! Happy homeschooling...Stop worrying, and enjoy the freedom! :) Ps: don't listen to all the negativity, you won't know till you try it for yourself! What's the worst that can happen... Sorry, I don't understand; I don't think anyone said homeschooling isn't possible for a full time mum. The OP is at work full time and wants to home school. Do you mean it's possible to work full time and home school? I am only curious how it works.

Thank you Marroosh. What does the schedule of the children look like. Do they have to start and stop classes at the usual time or can we make our own schedule. I work full time so am concerned . Can or do parents hire teachers to help or would I be able to do it after work in the evenings? I just don't think it's possible to work full time and home school. The ones I met that do it are stay at home mums, that turned full time teachers. It is a lot of planning on top of the tutoring.

The ladies summed it up nicely. I know someone living in a villa in Al Quoz, although not local; they are traditional Muslims. It doesn't really have a community feel as such, although it seems like some boys meet up for football in the evening and some as mentioned cause trouble. The location is actually great; but can feel a bit dusty.
