I am in desperate need of a facial. I checked Essa's website in JLT, but there isn't a treatment menu for the facials and no price list, I heard good reviews, does anyone know the cost and which treatment that is good? I am also looking for other recommendations. Have you called them and asked? They also have a FB page. Just really rubbish website, prices for pedicures etc, but not the facials. Facebook page doesn't have information either...I posted when they weren't open, maybe someone on here knew, anyway will phone today...

Yes community pools were never part of the master plan, I think mainly because the original 4 and 5 bedroom villas came with pool. The 3 bedroom villas had option of getting a pool to a higher price. A lot of Jumeirah Park villa owners are members of the Jumeirah Island Club, and they get a discount as it's a Nakheel development.

I have lived in both areas, and I like Jumeirah Park the most. The houses I think are better quality (this will depends which district you are in, as there were different contractors) and generally larger gardens. Once you move in you will feel community feel, there are a lot of owners living in their villas and I think that helps. The location doesn't really get much better for villa living in Dubai. What I like more with the Ranches is the community is mature and the landscaping really is top notch.

This and another post seem to highlight something of a cultural divide. Sad to see that some women have been brainwashed into disrespecting themselves. It's probably a case of not having any means on their own, unfortunately without money for good lawyers etc. a divorce can take some women back to square one that is a long way back from where some ladies on this board come from. Some husband will not support their children and ex wives unless they have someone really kicking them into it. A friend that is recently divorced really struggles, her ex husband hardly pay her anything and she had to take her child out of school to home school, there just isn't always easy to go back "home".

I think Spinneys would be your one stop shop, apart from cheap nappies. I think generally processed food like Birdseye is quite expensive here...fresh ingredients would work out cheaper. Dolmio sauce I've seen in all supermarkets. Good quality fresh fruit in most supermarkets.

3,000 dhs is quite normal for live out. You have to factor in her transportation and rent and make sure she got a decent amount to live on after that's paid for.

Firstly we cannot give advice unless you are more specific with whereabouts on the Palm as some areas will be quieter than others. Secondly, if I was looking for somewhere peaceful to live with some privacy, it certainly wouldn't be The Palm. If she has the budget somewhere like Al Barari is lovely and peaceful. I agree, if it's a luxury villa in a peaceful location, Al Barari would tick the boxes. I am sorry to the OP, but the question was too general, it's a bit like some people ask is Dubai expensive? or how much will I spend on food? If your friend found a villa she liked, I don't think she will have a problem driving in and out of the Palm community, if she gives the security guy the villa number and explain her situation, I am sure she looks like she fits in living there as well and will not have a problem. It seems like a million excuses why she can't find out herself how it is living where she wants to live. We all have different ideas what peaceful as well.

I know it's not Ibiza! But if they've have nightclubs etc inside them, noise does carry! Why am I having such a hard time getting an answer? I am being quite reasonable and just want some help please! You have been getting plenty of advice, like she should go and visit at different hours where she plans to live. You have not given an exact address, so you will never get an exact answer.

I guess I was hoping that someone could shed light on whether the newly opened hotels around the crescents are causing noise problems for the residents on the fronds? The hotels doesn't cause noise once they are open...stand outside one and listen. This is not exactly Ibiza. They are noisy when they are under construction.

They are all good, but Jumeirah Village Circle would come at the bottom of my list, as it's a lot of single people and bachelors there. The other communities are almost exclusively families. It also depends on where you will work and has school places. Victory Heights do have dining options, at least it's the Els club there and there might be something more.

Like others already said, she would have to visit at different hours to find out.... It really is impossible to answer as there are so many villas and who you get as a neighbour would determine the level of noise like most places.

Yep...the minimart. It doesn't sell much. Think I gave kids carte Blanche to buy sweets etc as just wanted to spend the AED50 to get free parking. I know, but better getting 50 dhs worth of something than paying the high parking charge and get nothing.

Park Island is nice and so is Marina Quays. Go out viewing with an agent, they normally show you a few different buildings. I can recommend Lanhill or Engel & Völkers for the Marina area, but of course it's hit and miss which agent you get...

A Rolex watch or a vintage car;) I think you have to give a budget or give some information about your husband to get any suitable ideas. Your description he sounds dead boring, no travel, sport or adventure... I think that's a bit harsh Silvstet. I agree. He might be remarkable in many other interesting areas :) An idea of budget would be useful. A "birth year" watch is always a good thing though i think for the boys. Has to be a good classic brand that they would know and with a certificate. There are a lot of dealers who specialise in that kind of thing and will streer you clear of the many many fakes. I got my DH one and he was enchanted with it. Absolutely, just the OP didn't mention anything he likes or is intrested in, only what he doesn't like, which doesn't really help for recommendations... Proffesion, hobbies whatever would help slightly for recommendations and obviously budget.

Has to be outlets on the beach side only which I discovered after eating on the other side. What. I did do was go into the little grocery store and spend AED50 and they stamped my ticket. Just before this car park ie the cinema car park there is a Green car park which is AED30 for all day parking. Thanks for that info, is that the Minimart?

Wafi residence would be perfect. 3 minutes from the school. The traffic in the DESS area is busy, try to live nearby, I wouldn't be able to send my child on a school bus around that area, traffic really is bad and the bus drivers, I really don't know how some of them ever got a licence.

It's the most popular area for rental, so you wouldn't have problem finding a tenant. Just find one in a good tower for a good enough price, you will have to do your maths yourself... Park Island, Bay Central and Cayan were in high demand when I worked as an agent not that long ago. Many thanks Silvstet for the info. I hope this investment will be more successful than what we did in Europe which is empty for the past 5 months! Do you know if the whole rental process be smooth if we leave Dubai in future? Appreciate if you know of any tips. Yes, I have to say that's the advantage with the Marina etc is that is no reason why your apartment would stand empty! You could get a POA, for when you are away. Don't use property manage companies that take their rent in their name and say they will pay you, by the way it's illegal now, but some might stil try.

I tried at YAS Viceroy, but the hotel didn't allow it as it was a concert on, complained to the Entertainer and they said hotels are aloud to block dates outside the terms and conditions, never bothered with the travel book after that. The 2 for 1 will always be on the hotel rate from the hotel itself without breakfast. I found booking at booking.com for example works out cheaper anyway.

The Dubai fountain show is also free, starts from 6pm every evening, every 30 min until 10 pm. Jumeirah Mosque tour, only 10 dhs, check website for timings. Abra ride across the Creek 2 dhs. Dubai Museum 5 dhs. Dubai Mall aquarium, free to watch. Mall of the Emirates, check out the snowpark through the windows for free. Take a waterbus or the tram in the Marina, only a few dirhams per journey. Nice walking track at Kite Beach. Browse through Madinat Jumeirah.

Have you made clear what she's aloud to help herself to? My agency maid used to help herself to snacks in my house, but always told me like, I had an apple or a cereal bar and for me it was fine, but I can see it wouldn't go down well in a lot of houses.

Ask to see the original copy of the Title Deeds of the property - the name on it should correspond with his original copy of his ID which you should see. - take copies of both. Yes definitely ask for the title deed, some landlords pay Dewa, because they don't have it and that also means that you can't register with Ejari and would have no rights in case of a rental dispute.

Both are beautiful countries, but I think Australia is more expensive generally and like others said they are so big so is it Sydney vs a remote village in Canada or Montreal vs somewhere 3 h north of Perth... See where you get the best job offers and do the maths. Of course Canada can be very cold, are you prepared for that?

Yes Mirdif is great for pilots, as it's as close as you get to the airport. It's a good community with a large Mall Mirdif CC, whereyou can find everything you need. There is also uptown Mirdif that's a outdoor town centre. A lot of pilot families live in this area. I am not so sure about the school's there; but I think Royal Dubai school is popular. Silicon Oasis is also popular with pilot families and is a straight road to the airport, approximately 20 min drive. Good community, everything you need on your doorstep and the school there Gems Silicon Oasis supposed to be good. Good luck with your move!

How exciting to see this thread! i am coming to visit Dubai from Florida & California and explore expat life for my near future plans. Arriving May 5th, 2016. Would love to have tea with some local women expats since I am by myself this time.... AFTERNOON TEA is my thing every time I travel somewhere. And lingering over a cuppa with marina views would be more memorable with NEW friends, I hope! I looked up the suggestions here and I sure would love to go to both tea rooms during my one week visit. If there are other suggestions and places that any one would like to join me to try/or enjoy, I welcome the company! Please, pretty please?! :-) You may not find much company to go about Dubai because most women are either working or have young children - but every one is quite friendly and going anywhere alone is OK - better to do things alone than not at all - also it gives you more self confidence! Or go to one of expatwoman's coffee mornings!

May I ask what tricks they used? As a former real estate agent, I know most would work their pants off to try to rent it out. The owner never pays a fee, so I don't know what these agents been doing... May I ask you as a former real estate agent a few questions? If the owner doesn't pay any fee, (thanks for clarifying that), what incentive does the agent have to help a tenant negotiate the rent down? Your fee is based on the rent value, if I am not mistaken. Do you represent the owner or the tenant? An agent wants the highest rent they can get as it gives them more comission. If the agent tries to negotiate the price down, it generally means that the price is set too high for rent. @ Silvstet Thank you for the quick reply. Curious... does it hurt a commission if the tenant wants to pay in more than one check or does the agent earn the same no matter what? Number of cheques has nothing to do with the comission, only the rent amount.
