Ok, so you can book to go along any day then? Are the ones on that website different to the Iftar then? I'm assuming they must be different and won't be running during Ramadan if they happen during the day?! I will definitely visit Jumeirah Mosque then as you suggest, thank you simpleasabc. They have special times during Ramadan which I think are for Iftar only, though maybe they do invite guests to break their fast before sunrise during Ramadan as well. The Ramadan ones aren't on their site yet, that I can see, and they are only on selected dates. I shouldn't think the EW one is the only night, but maybe if you went with EW you would make some new friends.

Our daughter was in Y12 last year and we really liked the school, the atmosphere, discipline, attitude of the staff. However, a new broom is sweeping things clean next year and the Sixth Form is changing dramatically, or so it seems from what we can glean. Many teachers have left, as have the Principal and the original two Sixth Form tutors who guided the IB Diploma pupils from the beginning. We're waiting to see. Have no other option at this late stage.

Here are the cost details as gathered by me through many of the expat woman contributors a year ago. You need to check before you move in that the landlord has paid the annual service charges and that there is not something wrong with your water tank or DEWA counter so you don't get unexpectedly high bills. You should also make sure that Pest Control goes in before you move in. I'm sure I've forgotten other unexpected contingencies, but someone else will be sure to be along to help shortly. ETA: Oh, yes, you need to make sure your landlord has a maintenance contract in place, or a maintenance team to deal with any problems which arise. Welcome to Dubai! I believe from what friends say that DBS is a good school for the English curriculum, most people coming from England seem to be happy with it and they are thought to have high standards, I believe. The Springs is a nice area to live in. I would look for a 3 bed Type E, like this one: http://www.bayut.com/uae_dubai_villas/the_springs_3_bedrooms_villa_for_rent-778920.html I don't know really if one Springs is considered better than another? Maybe try to get closest to DBS so the boys can walk to school in winter? You can only tell by going to visit yourself, though. I had my heart set on living in the Lakes but was most disappointed at what was on offer for our budget at the time and am now very happy in the Meadows. I don't get it!!! how on earth pinching someone's bottom got you in jail for 3 years and half....while kicking someone till death is 3 years only!!!!! so life is that much easy and cheap, while pinching is a bit more?!!!!! Eh? He got jailed for 6 months, not 3 and a half years! But yes the contradictions in sentencing are a complete joke. Luckily in the 'murder' case - because it's nothing short of that, the public prosecution is appealing for the tough sentence which is 10 years. Even 10 years as a maximum for murder (from assault) is far too low Have you seen sentences in the UK and the US for people who kill by drunk driving or hit and run? Some people get away with a fine and points on their licence, I believe I may have read in our favourite English tabloid.

Perhaps it would be better to go back to the old days, before expats owned property here and rent from Emiratis, this is clearly not working, there are no laws in place. So true, in 15 years I've been here this is the first year I've rented from a non Emirati and it's been a disaster! Sorry, this is of no help to anyone, but this thread is making me realize how lucky we are to be living in a place which is owned and managed by a commercial company rather than an individual. That was just an accident, we didn't choose our villa because of it.

Not just CDG - going into LHR, we always try to join Customs queues where there are mainly Caucasians ahead of us. A good Greek friend who is very dark and swarthy always gets stopped and searched at UK customs, whether he's arriving by air, train or ship/car :( This has been going on for 35 years.

I agree about leaving extra time for your transfer. At one point, everyone I knew who travelled through CDG to and from Geneva either lost their baggage or found that things like videos and DVDs had been stolen from it. Their common point was that they were travelling with Air France.

Why don't you go along and find out? I know you can go and use the restaurant and bar and go to classes without a joining fee and that you can pay a daily rate if you want to go and use their pool. It's much cheaper than at the Lakes Club, but the facilities are possibly not as good. Miss Fortune found out the daily non-members' rate there recently, if you do a search..

I think you need to make sure that prospective purchasers are aware that you have a contract and are "sitting tenants" for another 10 months and have not been given 12 months' notice by your landlord as required by RERA. Someone here will know how much notice the new landlord is required to give you before they can move in.

I am not sure if Wellington DSO has the same uniform as Wellington International School on SZR. If that is the case I am selling my daughters uniforms. Age is 3-5.Everything is in good condition. The registering of the birth needs further information but i do know that all your relevant certificates need to be attested etc before to register the birth. Have you done all this ready to come? Hopefully yes and a good PRO should be able to help. Also bear in mind the next two months are very hot here and there will be little for your twins to do that will not exhaust you. [b'>You also will not be able to drive for a while until your paper work is sorted.[/b'> When we arrived, we drove a hire car quite happily on a tourist visa; it was only once our residence visas were in place that we couldn't drive whilst we were waiting to get our Emirates driving licence, which was very quickly done, I think it only took a couple of days, if that. At the time, we didn't need to have the EID card, not sure if that is necessary for a driving licence here?

I think what Lolacat means about registering the birth is that you would probably need to have all documents in order, which means a residence visa, I suppose, in order to get a birth certificate here, but I really don't know. Could you not get the company to pay for temp accommodation where you are whilst you have the baby, as Lolacat makes a good point also about Ramadan delaying everything? For registering birth here, why not ask on the pregnancy board as I am sure many ladies will have had the experience and will be able to explain it to you.

I'm still a bit confused as to where you are. If you are at home and have been looked after there throughout your pregnancy, get your DH to explain circs to his company and give birth where you are, where you know the ropes and docs and everything is familiar, with your DH staying with you and starting his contract later than anticipated. Or if his visa comes through very quickly, stay where you are and he come to Dubai and be prepared to fly back for the birth.

Has your husband got a firm work contract here in Dubai? If he has, to the best of my knowledge, he can come in to work on a tourist visa, which he can renew if he has to by either paying for the renewal here or doing a visa run to Oman. It is much easier to get the labour card/residence visa he needs once he's here, but he can only do it if the company he is working for provides him with a firm contract and proof of salary, IIRC. If he doesn't have a firm contract and job here, then don't come. I don't think that's true about Christmas, BB2, my daughter's been at two schools here and all the holidays varied wildly from school to school. Christmas was no different. this was just changed last year. Ah, right, thank you - that'll mean a huge build up of traffic at DXB in December...

Also, the Dubai Explorer books, particularly the one about Red Tape, will help, though it's probably out of date as things change so rapidly here. Where did your husband go for his tests, couldn't you go to the same place? They know what they're doing, you just make an appointment for a residence visa medical and they'll do the rest, though you need to have the right bits of paper (and possibly photos, I can't remember) with you and you need to get the typing done (translation of dox into Arabic) before you go in. I don't know if this is typical, but Al Safa has a typing centre on the spot. I've just found "Suits" which is currently in its second series and quite fun. Best to watch Series 1 first to get the gist of it, though.
