Being gay or bisexual is a big NO in Scientology. On a lighter note,Tom I will be your next beard! Call me...,maybe?! ;) Oh, right, thanks, Asti, I did wonder if that was part of the reason for him - but what about the others who've been cited here? Are they all Scientologists as well? I have finally understood the meaning of the word "beard" in this context. I was trying to work out what this typo was that everyone kept making ;)

why does it matter ? i can't believe a whole thread just gossiping about celebrities' se.xual orientation.... ffs.. I might have known it was [b'>you[/b'> saying more or less what I was about to post, PennyLane ;) I don't understand why on earth they would feel they have to keep it a secret in this day and age? Rock Hudson, OK, but this generation of actors has absolutely no need to stay in the closet. Ridiculous, if there's a grain of truth in it. I suppose they/their managers might feel it would affect box-office as women would stop "swooning" for them? Really? :\:

Others will be better able to advise as I do drive and hence, don't take the metro. But, I can tell you that there most certainly is a bus service that takes you to the metro as I have a friend who does it all the time. She grabs the bus at the Town Centre and it takes her to the station just past the Greens on SZR. That's the number 32, I think (there's only one bus in the area, I believe) - it goes down the Springs Road, past Emirates Hills, the DIA, the Lakes, Regent Int School, the Greens, and takes you to Media City Metro. Don't know where/if it goes anywhere after that.

The only use I have found for foreign coins is to put them in the multi denominational charity boxes in airport terminals, or put them in the envelopes that some airlines give out on board. At least I know they are then going to good causes.:) Yes, I do that with currency from countries I'm not going back to in the forseeable,

In my experience, banks will only ever exchange notes, whatever the currency and wherever in the world you are. Have you no intention of ever going back to Europe? Euro coins come in handy for things like airport trolleys on landing, or for spending a "penny", or tips for taxi drivers, little things like that. It might just be worth hanging on to them for future travel or holidays.

I would LOVE to adopt, regardless of whether we can have children naturally or not, but sadly my Dh wont consider it at all. Id even go for adoption and not bother with IVF but he just insists it has to be natural or nothing. I feel pretty sad about it sigh.... and reading these lovely posts here about how positive the experience was for you ladies makes me tempted to try discussing it again. Men and their sperm, eh! Know what you mean, Hilsbils, having been told I couldn't have children, I'd have been v happy to adopt an orphan child with origins not of our own cultures, but my husband would not contemplate it. So we just have the one, much adored, but we could have given a home to more as we are lucky enough to have much to give.

Sorry, can't be of help, though have, since perimenopause, started suffering from nasty migraines and understand how you feel. Has anyone looked at your inner ear? May sound daft, bu my own migraines start on the right side of my head, with the outside of the ear feeling most affected. I have to lie down in a darkened room for a day or so, asleep, to get rid of them and driving is really worrying. I wish you well and hope you find a doctor who can help you.

I've had advice from Fiona myself and I would think the reason the schools she recommended are not the ones considered "the best" is because of practical reasons, such as her knowing the waiting lists will be too long for your immediate requirements, or their cost too high for your budget.

We're using a Cisco Linksys router, also bought from Carrefour. We have got the basic wireless settings set up for BG-Mixed, not including N, as some of our machines are too old to be compatible with N (whatever all these things mean, however, their settings definitely make a difference to us).

Have you seen this? http://athens.usembassy.gov/marriage.html Speaking as the wife of a Greek, I can tell you that it's incredibly complicated to sort out paperwork of any kind in Greece even if you are a national and speak the lingo. Reading the above, I think you would have to be in Greece yourselves to get it all done, not sure if you would be allowed to get a lawyer to do the paperwork for you - we always have the problem for Greek documents that my husband has to be there in person to get even the simplest stuff done. It might be that he is just too mean to fork out for a lawyer for that kind of thing, though. Quite a lot of people from here seem to have been able to get married in Cyprus with no problem though, presumably at ceremonies arranged by a hotel. Could you try that angle in Greece, maybe? I think they would come to Dubai with good start up money. She mentioned selling their apartment in London :\: Please, no, don't let them do that, at least not at first - they should rent it out at a rate to cover their mortgage and maybe enough to have extra coming in to cover some of their initial costs in Dubai, if they can. Selling it immediately to finance their move to Dubai is very risky..

I would say indescretion. I would not tell my husband, why unload your guilt onto him, not necessary, but....I might consider taking a good look at your marriage and change the 'roommate' feeling :)....sounds like your marriage needs a bit of renovating. So, take it as a lesson learned and something to reflect on in regards to how you view your marriage. Where's that "Like" button? :)

I feel your pain, good luck on your first outing! Like some others here, I was forced to drive in the first week we were here, as husbad went away for work. I was in a hired Corolla, doing the journey from the DIP, round the Green Community roundabout and down to Emirates Hills. Baptism of fire! I remember in that first week that dorter was invited to a friend's in the Springs. I managed to drop her off quite happily and then failed to find my way back to the hotel in the dark, though I'd already done the journey a few times in daylight. Husbad in Jeddah not happy to receive a call from me saying "I'm lost" - what could he do! I finally realized I was going in the wrong direction up the Emirates Road and managed to turn round and get back to Springs (too late to go to the hotel first!). A year later realized I'd got myself into Motor City for some reason. After that, my husband decided it would be safer for me to drive a large automatic, as he would feel happier that way! I definitely second keeping your petrol tank full, just in case. And don't worry, I still get lost in the MoE carpark, let alone the MoE itself :) We all do it, it's a feature of Dubai, particularly as the road layouts change so fast because of their construction. As someone said, make sure you know which direction you want to be heading (Sharjah, airport, Jebel Ali, Abu Dhabi, Dubai) and you'll get home safely in the end:) Good luck :)

Unless rules have changed recently, from what I have read here, the landlord must give you an entire year's notice that you have to leave. If your present contract is renewable after a year, then I believe the new LL must give you a year's notice from Feb 2013. But I might be wrong, it might be from when the new LL takes over the contract. Or something completely different - I would ask RERA if I were you. Do you still have the contact with the agent who got the commission from you? In which case, you could start by asking them.

Thanks to both of you for your replies. I think I have a linked in account, will have to check. I am a bit nervous to apply for a job, sigh. You've nothing to lose by applying, if you think you have the right profile for the job. You can but try and if you don't get anywhere with OUP, I wouldn't be disheartened as there are sure to be many people applying for the same position; if you do get somewhere with them, that would be great :)

I'm sorry, I can't help you with contacts, but my brother's first job after university was with them and it was a very prestigious place to be and a great stepping-stone to go upwards in the publishing world. When I was travelling around Nepal for example I lived on just 5 dollars a day!! Now thats not for everyone, but I learned how to be much more content with the simpler things in life and that has helped a lot. Sorry to digress here, but Hilsbils, were you the lady who did a sort of "Eat, Pray Love" thing and went on your travels in late 2010? Were you called Beachy Maria in a former life, or have I got it completely round my neck?
