Just in case you have to make an unexpected trip back to the UK in winter, I would bring a set of winter clothes and a coat, scarf and gloves and a pair of proper closed shoes, or even boots. If this happens, there is strangely a huge selection of winter clothes available here anyway, so I personally wouldn't waste luggage space now on winter items - just buy them as and if required. Except they're a total waste of money to buy here if you already have them and you're shipping stuff out in any case.. <em>edited by simpleasabc on 20/06/2012</em>

Flippin eck'... I am seriously having 2nd thoughts about going to one at all... Is there anywhere out there for a normal quiet brunch? Away from idiots?? We really enjoyed the brunch we had at the Aquarium at the Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht club - if you like seafood, it's great! I've not lived in England for over 20 years, but when I go there, I stay with family and the local GP's surgery know me. I'm sure they would let me sign up as a temporary patient with no questions asked if I had a problem whilst staying there.

How do they check in the UK? Do they catch many people who go back as many people seem to do it? If she has been living out of the UK she will need proof of a UK address, if she’s really in trouble she could give the parents address BUT it’s not exactly legal or ethical to do so. Couldn’t she just have the baby at the free local hospital in Dubai? Sorry, I can't find the right link to the UK website concerned, but this was posted recently and there was a link to a uk.gov or somesuch website, which said words to the effect: "There are exemptions in place e.g. if you have lived in the UK for 10 years in the past and have been away for less than 5 years then you are entitled to hospital care (including having babies)." So by the sound of it, the OP [b'>would[/b'> be able to have her baby in an NHS hospital if she wanted to. Oh ok, I thought once you had moved that was it. Well thats easier for the OPs friend. What a meanie DH not getting the wife health insurance. OP make sure your friend flies first class LOL Sorry, should have written "OP's friend".

IF you do go back to the UK, get *written permission* from your soon-to-be-ex husband that states he is OK with you and the kids leaving the country for an undefined period of time and get him to sign it. If he refuses, threaten to report his affair to the police. Be warned though that no matter how sweet revenge may sound right now, putting their father in jail in the UAE is probably not the greatest thing you could do for your kids. Excellent idea. I think it's not a good idea...why start with threats and blackmail, you don't need to drop to that level. You don't need his permission to travel back to UK on your own with kids, thousands of women do it every summer without a letter. And once there you don't need his permission to stay as long as you like. So go back to the UK, set yourself up there, contact a good divorce lawyer (loads in UK as opposed to a handful in Dubai) and take it from there. Best of luck and sorry it has come to this. I wonder why there are two such polar opposite opinions on this question, every time it arises here? Why would people suggest this written permission business if they didn't have good reason to think this was a practical, useful piece of advice to give in these circumstances? Would it be to avoid future accusations of kidnapping by the possibly soon to be ex-husband?

Are you here or in the UK? Do you have the kids passports?. If I were you, I would get on the first plane with the kids and take them to your parents, family. Then start proceedings. Not sure that that is good advice - just because he is a bad husband does not necessarily make him a bad Dad. And taking his children away from him might turn him very nasty in the divorce proceedings. Just not worth it in my humble opinion. . also can bite you in the but as you CAN be charged with child kidnapping. A case is currently being heard in the US where a woman took her children from US to the UK ten or so years ago - she has been extradited and is facing jail....... As the OP implies, she herself could make it extremely difficult for her husband and his colleague if she reported their affair to the police here, though there's not much point in doing it except for spite. Anyhow, what I'm trying to say is that I think she has moral justification for going to stay with family for an extended visit at home whilst things are being sorted out. But I am not a lawyer, divorce or otherwise. Good luck, RanchesRanger, sorry to hear this, hope you can work things out for the best for all of you.

I would ask for immunity testing. In the case of recurrent miscarriage, it is very often an immunity issue. However, this is something that is not routinely tested for. Wish I'd known this when I was losing lovely little girls. Cannot tell you the **** I was subjected to by a Swiss hospital. Hope it all works out for the OP - completely unexplained miscarriages are just so hard. Hugs.

Hi, welcome to Dubai :) I have no knowledge of living in either community but I think the former is larger and has more mosquitoes (lakes) and the latter are smaller with a view of the golf-course. I would go for the latter because I love the situation but not sure if our family would fit and we don't play golf :) Both nice places, you need to have a look for yourself, don't try and "buy" before you get here. I was set on the Lakes before we visited and even after that, but in the end, decided we get more for our money in Meadows, despite the Lakes being the only place here where you get your post delivered to your door :)

When ours was a baby, we bought a travel cot that doubled as a playpen, from the Early Learning Centre. It came in useful over the years when we had baby visitors, as well. I've had a couple of disappointments with meat from Spinneys but now I check the packaging date and make sure I use it on the day that I buy it. Seems to work for us. I do prefer Prime Gourmet meat, though, but there's quite a difference in price.

For a few hours last night and this morning, the spectre of our having to leave Dubai and go back to Europe raised its ugly head and I realized that Dubai is now more my home than anywhere in Europe :) I start getting grumpy about things and then hear the call to prayer and see people stop their cars to pray by the side of the road and my heart misses a beat. I just love the skyline and seeing the Burj Al Arab in particular is a joy.

I think also that if a visiting couple cannot hold hands (and nothing else) in public then [b'>why should men from the region (or women for that matter) be allowed to?[/b'> It confuses the visitors because they don't understand the reasons behind it. Of course we shouldn't be flouting the laws etc but I do think that some of the terms handed out to people for doing things normal in their country (peck on the cheek, hand holding etc) have been very long compared to ones who get suspended sentence for assualt, theft etc... is there a reason for this I don't know about? I have to say that I still find it very strange when I see men holding hands, something I can't get used to. I agree, given that what you and I are thinking about it is against the law here..

I felt like a horrible old bag in Spinneys Town Centre this evening - there was a lady in lovely blue short shorts and a beige-pink off the neck top doing her shopping. She would have looked great on the beach. I so wanted to say to her - do you not understand the dress code here, do you have no respect? But I presumed she was Russian and would neither understand nor care. Maybe I was stereotyping her but such is everyday life in Dubai. At least she filled her shopping bags herself..

I actually wanted to go to the latitude but they don't do saturdays anymore. What a shame, they were lovely. We always preferred those to the Friday ones and don't feel the cuisine at Beachcombers compares. OK, since it seems you and I have similar brunch tastes, maybe you'd enjoy the Montgomerie one? It's not huge at all and specializes in roast meals on Saturday, but is excellent.

I'm ashamed to admit I gave up working (in a job I hated) because I was fed up with all my money going to pay her bills for things she didn't need and couldn't afford but expected us to pay for. It back-fired on me because after so long at home I have become obese and unemployable (one not the result of the other), so maybe don't take a leaf out of my book :)
