We absolutely love Bab Al Shams. It's beautifully situated, the Infinity pools are lovely, watching the sunset from the roof-top bar which serves snacks is a lovely experience. The Arabic restaurant does a dinner show every evening, I think - the usual "international spread" with Arabic food included and Whirling Dervishes whilst you eat! Why don't you nip out there one evening (depending where in Dubai you are, it's not too far away), just to have a look and maybe a drink at the bar and see what you think? We have also been to the Liwa Hotel which is in the middle of the desert and near the big red dune. Quite a long way away and to my mind, not as nice as Bab Al Shams.

The Royal Boathouse (sorry, it's the Royal Barge House) might be fun for both you and the children. A few rides in a tuk-tuk? http://www.tour-bangkok-legacies.com/royal-barge-museum.html Have all the klongs closed? Riding on the main river and klongs in a "flying" boat is an experience not to be missed. There are crocodile and snake farms (not my cup of tea, but the children might be interested). Is anyone else reminded of the lady who insisted on jogging round Meadows 9 and some Springs with her baby in a jogging stroller ON THE ROAD NEXT TO THE PAVEMENT? I haven't seen her for a while, not sure if it's because my timings have changed or because she has stopped doing it..

Hi, DB, and congratulations on your wedding:) Have you seen this week's Time Out? I just spotted it in Spinney's and it advertises a feature about where to get married in Dubai. There is a lady who sometimes posts on EW as abby_and_christina who has just had her first baby, I think, but who works as a wedding planner in her spare time. You might put out a call to her and see if she can help? Also, just do a search on EW for "wedding planner" and you will find loads of threads about getting married in Dubai - you might get some ideas there, as well. Good luck and enjoy!

In Paris, the Pompidou Centre used to be fun, but I was last there when Adam was a lad, so I'm realising as I type that I'm not going to be much help. Anyhow, definitely the Louvre and the Tour Eiffel; the cathedral of Notre Dame; I love the Musee d'Orsay, which is an old station where the Impressionists have been housed for many years. The Marais district is lovely, particularly the Place des Vosges. There's also Montmartre - Sacre Coeur and Place du Tertre, touristy but fun. I am sure there are some Parisiennes here who will come to the rescue with more detailed info. I'm afraid I'm not good on the practical stuff, we always travelled in our own car. If I were you, I would buy the Rough Guide to Paris and start from there. Have a lovely time planning and then enjoying your holiday. <em>edited by simpleasabc on 26/03/2012</em>

Hi, The villa we reside in has just been sold to a new LL and now the agency are saying we have to pay a fee to renew our rental contract for another year.Is this right? Can they do this? Seems likemoney for old rope. TIA I have no experience, but I believe they can do this whether or not there is a new LL, but not before the end of your original contract. You're better off contacting RERA, unless one of these wise ladies knows the answer..

You need to ring the very expensive number on the website where you have to give your credit card details before asking a question :( I think someone did find an email address in Dusseldorf from which they got an answer, maybe if you do a search you can find it. I believe the whole process has got longer as the application form goes from Dusseldorf to the UK and back, I think.

I really find it's the luck of the draw. You might get a recommendation for a good company, but get sent a duff or inexperienced maid. My main problem is that they don't understand me, even though they are advertised as speaking English. I have been through so many agencies, I think the last good one I had was maids.ae but I didn't like having a houseboy coming regularly to the house and then their rates went up to AED40 an hour. Sorry I can't be more help.

I would think if he had proof that it was illness which caused his dropping out of Year 12 and he has good exam results, there should be no problem his joining a BC school, as long as there was a place for him.. I'm sorry, I don't know much about the British Curriculum schools here, but you can look here for a start: http://www.dubaifaqs.com/schools-dubai.php I think all the children are so used to a floating population here that there won't be a problem for him coming into a new school, particularly in the first year of a Sixth Form. I too was nearly knocked out when my hairdresser from PASTELS punched me in the head whilst blowdrying.He didn't even say sorry! The Pastels I go to is Ladies Only, which is quaite naice.

I love Longchamp, very good quality hand bag/bag for men and women. Ooh, yes, I'd forgotten Longchamp, have an old rucksack of theirs which broke.. So pretty and comfortable, though, they don't make it any more :(

Hi Ladies, I am in the market for a new handbag as my everyday one is getting a bit tatty!! I was seeking some advice on what brands you found quite good and what your tips are? I have no idea of what brand I want or what I want in a bag, though if it is an everyday bag, needs to be practical. Where should I start looking and what is a decent price range? (500-1000dhs) I have been eye-ing off some Gucci, LV, and D and G in Dubai Mall...maybe that could be an early birthday present from DH!!! Both Sam and Shakira at Pastels Salon on Al Wasl Road are very good with blonde roots and highlights. Not cheap, but you don't come out wearing 8 different shades of blue. I have tried many hairdressers in Dubai and have decided they are the best for me. Have not tried the much vaunted Elaine of Ted Morgan's, though - perhaps I should. I've just been informed we have 3 guests for dinner on Friday night and 2 different people coming to lunch on Saturday. But it's all right, as husbad will be doing the BBQ , so I don't have to worry.. (yeah, right, who has to do the shopping and cook all the peripherals for both meals?). Any suggestions for starters, accompaniments to the steaks/chicken/prawns, and puds, please? I'm wondering if I can do a huge gratin on Friday and keep some of it for Sat? Banoffee pie is a real winner here, might make two small ones.. Or just my quick lime cheesecake twice? Help, please! I'm trying to keep it reasonably simple as I have no help at week ends and don't want to make too much of a mess. Thank you for any ideas :)

Try Turkish via Istanbul. Normally amongst the cheaper airlines and not too bad. If you only have the choice of Swiss or Lufthansa, take Swiss, they still provide a bit more than a stale bread roll as a meal in Economy. ETA: Just had a look on ebookers, the Swiss price is excellent, almost half that of Emirates. Turkish doesn't show. <em>edited by simpleasabc on 21/03/2012</em>

WIS is back on 5th September. DIA sometimes has different timings from schools in the British and US curriculum, though, so you can't judge by other schools.
