Sorry, I've no idea, though I would guess it goes straight to DEWA. In case no one who knows is around at the mo, have you looked at The Villa website? http://thevilladubai.webs.com/ Can't work out what JVC is, do you mean JVT (know nothing of that, either)?

Given that you have to go to a pharmacy to get your ears pierced, I'm wondering if belly-button piercing is remotely a possibility here?

[b'>His nationality is greek[/b'>, and he relatively new to the region. Not sure he is fully aware of how serious safety & security is taken here. Its not about where you come from, if your a wacko then your a wacko! You have no idea, how much it helps to hear from you all. My company has very few women and at moment I can't trust anyone. And will keep checking in here regularly. Wish there was something I can do at larger scale for working women here, I'm sure there are so many out there experiencing similar or worse harassment and don't know what to do. I hope that's not my husband you're talking about.. Seriously, Greek men have massive pride, or "face", and certain of them find it hard to believe if they are rejected. Depending where they come from and how much they have travelled, some of them are extremely backwards when it comes to women's rights, and to be fair, some of the women facilitate their retarded behaviour.. Good luck, I'm fairly sure you won't come to any harm, but keep us posted and maybe give someone you trust all the details. I hope you have nothing to fear, because the Greek men I know, whilst often being male chauvinists, are also quite chivalrous. And if you want my Greek husband to give him a talking to, just give me a call!

I took this, which is prescribed by doctors in Switzerland and France for women who do not want to go down the HRT route: http://www.diagnosia.com/fr/medicament/cimifemine-uno Its main active ingredient is Black Cohosh. I was also given something containing St John's Wort, but I can't remember the exact name at the moment. The Black Cohosh takes a long time to kick in, and maybe I was lucky that my symptoms didn't bother me too much. It definitely helped with the night sweats and daytime hot flushes and possibly with mood swings as well.

What's more, it's not beach weather here in Dubai at all today and there are warnings not to go out to sea if you were thinking of fishing from a boat :(

Hope it works, I'm afraid it may be a bit late now and booked up already. E-bookers also have special flight deals going at mo so you might get lucky there, at least. Maybe try their flight plus hotel deals?

So fed up with this ID! I am waiting for over 3 months for my ID to be issued :-( They should first get their act together and improve their processes before issuing deadlines... But once you've started the process and have proof of your application, you're OK as far as fines are concerned.

You can stay up there as long as you like. I would suggest the hour before sunset, so you get a good look in daylight (if it's a clear day) and then have a view of the night lights.

Don't they do "the talk" in schools here? In biology lessons, if nothing else? Apparently not according to mums with older children than mine. We are moving back to uk in July and I know they get the talk in school in year 5 or 6. DD is in year 5 at the mo and no signs of any talks at her school. I think also as children's bodies develop earlier, schools have been giving the talk earlier. We were told in our first year at secondary school, when I was 11, but in Geneva, they are given the talk when they are 8 or 9.

This is interesting as just about to have the talk about periods with my daughter who will be 10 in April. I've got a book from amazon called for girls only which im going to read first then will give to my daughter and we will read together. She has never asked me about periods or *** but as she is developing quite rapidly at the moment and is very tall for her age I'm thinking that periods will come sooner rather than later. Wish me luck!!!! Don't they do "the talk" in schools here? In biology lessons, if nothing else? ETA: Good luck - your daughter may have seen signs herself, like hair growing where it wasn't before and mucus showing and she might be worrying about it, if she hasn't asked you any questions by now. edited by simpleasabc on 18/01/2012

Cheeky Monkey's right, just answer the questions as they occur and make the replies age-appropriate. We'd always answered any questions honestly and straightforwardly. Didn't really sit down and have a talk as they had the s*x talk at school, just gave her the books and told her to ask any questions she might have.

I'm quoting from myself in 2010: "I started talking to mine about it when she was about 9 and bought a couple of books (the Usborne one rings a bell) which I left in her room so she could look at them when she was curious. They had a "sox education" talk at school at about that age, so she assured me she was clued up enough. She knew she could ask me anything she liked. When she started her periods 3 years ago I realized that I'd gone wrong somewhere - after a 12 day bleed, I said let's mark it in the diary so we can calculate when your next one will be, and she replied "you mean it's not finished for ever?". She adjusted quite quickly to the idea of it happening monthly, thank goodness!" I added: "Oh, and when it actually happens, could I suggest giving her some kind of special female-orientated present to mark the occasion, even try and do a special "mother-daughter" celebration for her? Or even just a CD or DVD or something she wouldn't normally be given except for birthdays and other usual present-giving occasions. I know it's routine for women, but it's quite bewildering for girls when it happens. You also need to be sure she knows where there are sanitary disposal bags and bins at school." ETA: Usborne books here: http://www.usborne.com/catalogue/catalogue.aspx?area=S&subcat=SFL&id=1985 and here: http://www.usborne.com/catalogue/catalogue.aspx?area=S&subcat=SFL&id=62 edited by simpleasabc on 17/01/2012

I had the same problem last year, shoegal76, and I found it in the nick of time, though when we presented it, we just got a bottle of house white, not the Monkey Bay.. We didn't argue! In this edition, you can find it opposite the gold vouchers numbered A01, for Rostang's French Brasserie. Sante!

At 16 I think he should be responsible for his own bedtime. It goes whithout saying, though, that no matter what time he goes to bed, he needs to get up on time. After a few tired mornings he'll work out a good time to retire all by himself. Wise lady :) I wish it worked that way in our house :)

Lets face it. There's nothing more gratifying than sharing knowledge and showing how much you know about the place in which you live. As M.E. veterans it is highly satisfying showing off to all the newbies! ;) I got a huge amount of help from the Expat Woman (as she is known in our house) when we were considering moving here and once we'd arrived in Dubai. No question too basic or too stupid to be answered. Mind you, the best suggestion was to buy the Dubai Explorer books - and I can't for the life of me remember who said it. Maybe Clairedhp?

I actually portioned it up and stuck it in the freezer, then pulled out a slice as and when i wanted and either nuked it or put it in the oven (oven better). Do I *look* that organized, or even that self-controlled?

No, I didn't, Izzy, I drooled at the picture, looked at the ingredients and ran away at the calorie count per slice! I'd have been the only one in the family to eat it and I'm having a hard enough time trying not to put on weight, let alone lose it, at the moment, so it wasn't going to help. Gastro-porn, great, isn't it!

simpleasabc you have me so wrongly pegged. The hint should have been - "never been to Europe before". I totally expected someone to jump to conclusions....but you got this one wrong! Haven't travelled, worked long hours all my life whilst raising 3 children....first trip ever without kids and they are all teenagers! Sorry, TB, just my warped sense of humour, no harm meant. Rome is so gorgeous and I'm sure you'll have a fabulous time. Whenever I've been lucky enough to visit, the weather has been great, but it has always been between April and October. My cousin lives there and she never gives me the impression that it gets too cold (like Geneva or London), even in winter. The light is beautiful. Happy birthday, you'll have a ball whatever you're wearing!

I don't think Rome will necessarily be *that* freezing - check the average temps for the time you will be visiting and you might be pleasantly surprised. Of course, it will be cold compared to here!
