It's a delicious white flat fish, you can dredge it in flour or breadcrumbs and fry it gently in butter, serve it with fresh lemon wodges, or bake or grill it and serve it with lemon again. Yummy! Bon app!

Thanks, CP and QP, she's much better now, but has almost 6 weeks' worth of school to catch up on - she'd only been at her new school for a week when it happened, so it didn't do a lot for her social life, either. Yup, you're right, of course, Dogcatcher, the surgeon would have liked to have performed keyhole surgery on my daughter, but the ovary was the size of a cantaloupe melon by the time it was discovered, so unfortunately, she had to be sliced.. The cut is below the bikini line and daughter is not planning to go into a profession where that sort of scar will matter ;)

Wholeheartedly recommend Dr Jennifer at Welcare Hospital, Garhoud. My daughter was recently admitted as an emergency with a massive twisted ovarian cyst which had been undiagnosed for at least a couple of years. Dr Jennifer was fantastic, I am certain that she did her utmost to save the ovary and the Fallopian Tube, but unfortunately, they were in such a state that she couldn't. The whole emergency team and nursing staff were excellent. Good luck.

The Stephanie Plum books ( Numbered ones) by Janet Evanovich are fabulous It is about a very clumsy, American bounty hunter. Her Grandmother and sidekick Lulu are hilarious. There are 17 in the series and i have heard there maybe a movie soon :-) Some of them are funnier than others, I found the earlier ones better, maybe it was just the novelty. I'd love to see the film - who would play Stephanie? More to the point, who would play Ranger?????

Finished reading 'I don't know how she does it' and that was definately laugh out loud and I don't even have kids! The film is supposed to be rubbish - the book is NOT!! Enjoy I was about to suggest that, Dubaichick - haven't seen the film but loved the book. The first few paragraphs of the first chapter particularly stick in my mind for laughing out loud - can't look an M&S mince pie in the face :D

RamC, depending on whether you're intending to fit a lot in during the next six weeks, you might find it more worth your while to wait for 2012 and not buy the 2011 edition - the only reason I'm thinking of buying the Family one so late in the year is because I think we'll get value out of it when my nephew's here. I don't think we're going to be using the Fine Dining one that much before the end of the year, so if there's anything anyone wants, just ask and I'll see if we've still got a voucher for it. Am planning to use the Wine voucher before year end, though!

Basel (good zoo, lovely old town, river Rhine) and Berne (seat of Government, lovely old town, small zoo, bears no longer on show in the bear-pit, I understand) are both attractive and neither is far from Zurich by car or train. Zug, Luzern, Interlaken are all in the area and I think are much more scenic than Zurich itself. Geneva, which a lot of people like, is only 3 hours away by car or train. Why not take the Glacier Express train which goes through stunning scenery - I've not done it myself, but apparently, it's spectacular: http://www.glacierexpress.ch/EN/Travel_information/Map_route/Pages/default.aspx Enjoy planning it!

Congratulations, GattaMatta, thank you for letting us know :) Take it easy, though, please, my daughter had emergency gynaecological surgery recently and had to be cut open - she tried to do too much to soon and it set her back a few weeks, so do be careful. WTH, IAMVP ;)

Thank you for pointing us in the right direction, Nessie! Booked it for my next birthday! Our daughter, who is not allowed to stay in our room as a child because she is too old, is not allowed to count as an adult for the second room as she is too young, so we have an imaginary adult who goes by dorter's name, staying in the second room with her ;)

Cakepop, the 3G is great as you can download for free from anywhere in the world. Many is the airport I've sat in having finished a book and ooh, in ten seconds flat, I've downloaded a new one via 3G to my Kindle. Well worth the extra initial outlay, to me. Anyway, enjoy, whatever you decide!

I think it's because people at home see all of the shows on Dubai, and those shows all make it sound like everyone is beyond rich. I often have people from home telling me what they've seen on Dubai, and I am always telling them that it is not how they portray it, at least not for the majority of people living here. Those stupid shows totally give the wrong impression of what it's really like here. Reminds me of the Oprah show on Dubai and the uproar it caused ! When was that shown, Arch? I made bacon, eggs and fried bread for the first time last week-end and it was a wow with the family - you could add sausages, tomatoes and mushrooms as well.. Otherwise, I second eggs benedict with smoked salmon, or smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. Ooops, must stop salivating all over the keyboard!

I agree with Jenc123 - the organic chicken from the Organic Foods Shop is just so expensive and I don't find the taste special, it's just the knowledge that it's free from the rubbish that most of the other stuff contains that makes me buy it occasionally.

Why don't you start with the Australian Embassy in Athens? http://www.greece.embassy.gov.au/athn/contact_us.html http://www.smartraveller.gov.au/assisting_within_limits.html Get a police report in Athens, ask your Embassy there to issue you with an emergency passport and fly back to UAE and enter on a tourist visa, then get your residence visa and ID replaced using copies of the documents you used to get your emergency passport? <em>edited by simpleasabc on 12/11/2011</em>

Oh, dear, you've just reminded me, we took my mother to lunch at Bab al Shams on her first day here, thinking she would get a feel for the place. She hated it - kept saying how different it was from London and how strange it was and the food was strange and there was so much desert. Unfortunately, that set the tone for her whole stay. I would still happily take anyone normal to Bab al Shams, though :D ETA: Also, you can get a good deal on a week-day at Bab al Shams, using the pools and other facilities, with buffet lunch included. If you can face the long journey, the red dunes and salt flats (Moreeb Dunes, I think) at Liwa are a fantastic sight. Mind you, we have a Swiss friend who was misled by the name "Red Sand Mountains" and was utterly disappointed when he went there last week-end :)

Or get a long-term mortgage deal in another country, so the house is paid off in Dubai and the mortgage and interest repayments are due over 20 or 25 years elsewhere? Only question is whether the houses will stand that long..

Oooh, you can't get Ma Griffe any more, probably a good thing as it reminds me too much of wearing it when I was with my first great love! I wore l'Air du Temps for a long time when I were a lass, but the scent has changed and anyway, I'm too old for it. I'd wear Ma Griffe again if I could find it..

My Great Uncle Tommy died as a result of the Great War - he was shipped from Edinburgh to Canada in 1918 and caught flu, I believe, before even going into battle. He was 17. My father fought the Germans in France in WWII. He had a medal of which he was not proud as it testified to the fact that he had killed people. He never spoke about the war.
