I've just realized that when this happens to me, I indicate to show my intention to move to the right when I can, to let the tail-gater have their way, and that seems to work. I don't break the speed-limit and if they get agitated about it, it's their problem, not mine. I've also just realized that I rarely travel in the far left-hand lane, in order to avoid this kind of thing.

HeyJude, if you look at other people's excessively high DEWA bills, it is often a one-off problem to do with a ball-cock not working or an unexpected leak (why does this sound rude?) from the tank or the watering system, or, occasionally, the DEWA counter working too fast. Best to find someone who can diagnose the problem fast and accurately, and correct it. From what I've gathered after a year here, I don't think DEWA will help you with diagnostics, it will be up to you or your landlord to act quickly to find the problem, and, with any luck, the solution.

In our experience, Tool Time was OK, not brilliant. (We only called them out because of their name, as we're fans of the Tim Allen show!) They came out on a one-time call-out at quite short notice, though and did the job. Other people often mention Hitches & Glitches as good in an emergency, though we've no personal experience of them. It looks as if you can't hire them on a one-off basis, though I may have misread this. http://www.hitchesandglitches.com/aboutUs.html

You could try Aston, though I don't know if they go to Falcon City: 0558252423. If not, maybe Helping Hands could do it - I'm sorry I don't have a current number for them.

We last went in August, I think - I hated it as I hate queues and crowds. But at least it was sunny and good humoured! If you can, you need to avoid French school holidays, as everything is much more crowded - we went once in May, when it was a French long week-end, and it was worse than in August :) Do they still do Fast Pass tickets for certain rides? If they do, the best thing to do is go first thing in the morning to get Fast Pass tickets for things like Peter Pan, Thunder Mountain Railway, Space Mountain (those are the only ones I can remember which had them) and then work your day around that. Best to go in the week so Parisians aren't there! The time we enjoyed most was at Hallowe'en, even though it was cold and wet, we were prepared and it was really good fun!

We wre in Istanbul during Eid last year. and museums were closed only first half of first day of Eid.. Arch, I was going to suggest Istanbul too, glad to have it confirmed that it is mostly open at that time. Such a beautiful city and ticks all the right boxes for OP - apart from being Muslim!

So difficult to answer. Greece is in turmoil at the moment, many people are suffering a great deal. We have family and friends there and are hesitating about going back to Athens for the moment, it is so traumatic for everyone. In my experience, everywhere in Greece is kid friendly, they are lovely with children. There are so many beautiful places to visit, I don't know where to start! Do you want an island, or the mainland? North or south? City or countryside? Beach or inland?

What bothers me the most is not long hours, exclusion from events or frequent travel... the unpredictability is what drives me INSANE! Never know when he'll be done for the day (could be 4PM... could be 4AM, seriously), never know when they might ask him to travel with only 24 hours of notice, never know when they'll make him work weekends, never know when we can go on vacation (they can ask that you change your vacation after you get it approved and tickets and reservations! UGH makes it impossible to plan anything)... as someone who always plans for the future and never procrastinates on being prepared it drives me NUTS! And it doesn't help that sometimes he forgets to mention things that he DOES know in advance! Oyyyy Welcome to my life for the past 14 years.

As far as I know, the clinical psychologist who worked with teenagers at the Dubai London Clinic is on maternity leave. She is British and her name is Dr Fiona. Maybe ring them up and see if she's coming back or if they have a replacement for her?

The toffee bit is the boiled tin of condensed milk. You could also buy Dulce de Leche or toffee sauce instead, just as good and save time. I thought the "offee" bit involved sprinkling coffee granules on before the bananas, or whipping coffee essence into the cream, or something?

Sorry, LIL, I asked and he didn't know, he needs to ask his colleagues here but as he is wandering around India at the mo, I won't get an answer from him till next week. I could always ring them up myself, of course - could you remind me later and I'll get the name of the guy I need to speak to later today, if that's OK. Actually, have to go to his office this afternoon, so will do it then.

Does this mean we get 40 days off school? ;) Was anyone here for the 30 year celebrations? What was that like? I seem to remember last year that there were reprimands because people got too excited and celebrated too late along the Jumeirah Beach Road.

I was taken for afternoon tea at Al Qasr at the Madinat. One serving of tea at AED140 (I think) would have sufficed for the two of us. I'm sure they would just bring an extra plate and cup for you to share one portion of tea. It was in March, so we were able to sit outside and it was absolute bliss. http://www.jumeirah.com/en/Hotels-and-Resorts/Destinations/Dubai/Exclusive-Offers-in-Dubai/Exquisite-Afternoon-Tea-with-Jumeirah/Afternoon-Tea-at-The-Lobby-Lounge/

I think all the ideas are great! Do you think the trip to Venice or Istanbul or week-end in Europe could include one close friend of hers? In my experience, girls this age are in a world of their own and only slightly register what's happening with the rest of their family, and far prefer to experience things with a friend their own age than with the "oldies", if you see what I mean?

I am wondering if the point arohadxb was somehow missed, a bit? I do understand what she is saying and she sums it up in her last para below. I 'think' she is saying that it is sad that the op looked back on being a sahm and asked if that was all there is and all she has achieved, as if it was not much? I dont think aroha is saying sahms should be fulfilled and happy about staying home but should take that chunk of life and embrace it while it lasts, then move on to other things. I wonder if looking back on your life and thinking you have not achieved anything or 'is that it' in relation to being the major carer of your children could just mean it is time for you to reevaluate your past in order to move forward. Surely there have been other wonderful achievements in life that can also count? Anyway, there will always be 3 camps in relation to sahms :)...those that do, those that dont and those that want what the others have. thank you sue...was starting to believe I actually spoke some other un recognisable language. How much do you think SueB charges for interpreting fees? :D

Hollywood has a lot to answer for! I'd have said it was Shirley Conran, expecting us all to be Superwoman and giving those of us who can't manage to "have it all", inferiority complexes..

"Adrian Mole, The Prostate Years", and Robert Goddard's "Blood Count". Just finished "The End of the Wasp Season" by Denise Mina, but much preferred "Afterwards" by Rosamund Lupton, which I read in one go a few weeks ago.

Is it a jurisdiction thing or a bank thing (no matter where the bank is located)? It is standard bank procedure (and the law in most countries) if a account holder dies - all his accounts are frozen until there is a legal disbursement of the estate. In many countries, if the executor of the estate has the proper paperwork and presents it to the bank, that is sufficient. Ask the bank. When my father-in-law died, it took seven years for his widow to be able to access their (joint) account and their safe at the bank. When she did, she was allowed to open the safe in the central area of the bank and to her surprise, withdrew the gun he had used to fire a victory salute from the top of the Athens Chamber of Commerce on the day Greece was liberated, in 1944. Fortunately, it wasn't loaded, though the bullets were in the safe beside it. We have learnt from this that when one of us dies, the other will be sure to empty any joint accounts before giving the death certificate to the banks concerned.

I'm not one to talk about parking at the MOE, as I've often been known to go in there, drive round for a while looking for somewhere to park properly, give up and head for the exit and then get lost. I'm just wondering, is there a way you could manoeuvre into the precious parking spot so that the driver's door is by the kerb, so you could exit more easily if something like that were to happen again? Mind you, I suppose it just reverses the problem as then the child would be inaccessible. Hmm, so much for that bright idea.

My screen resolution settings seem to have changed themselves every night for the past week or so. I have no idea how or why. This has occasionally happened to me before on this laptop, but not with such great regularity. No other pages apart from the HSBC front page are affected. Bizarre!

It is fine from my laptop. I get the same view with Internet Explorer or Firefox: Online banking Log on Register Have you tried clicking on the compatibility view tab (looks like a torn piece of paper at the end row on the top line of the page) It works in Internet Explorer, but in FF, I still don't get the whole of that page horizontally. It worked a few days ago, though. Pah. I don't see anything resembling a compatibility view tab anywhere - should that be in FF or on the HSBC page. please?
