Either they mean the restraint as in a regular seatbelt, OR.... and this might be something you'd have to call back and specifically ask... in the last few weeks I have come across several CARES restraints in our onboard equipment. As far as I was aware they weren't standard issue however seeing three in with our regular 'infant' seatbelt leads me to believe that perhaps they might be adding them as standard. Worst case scenario, the older child would sit in the seat next to you, using a regular seatbelt. The reasons given previous being as to why one adult can't travel with 2 lap children. There was a particularly silly case awhile back where one pair of adults wanted to travel with four kids- one each holding a baby then a 3 year old with the 1yr old on it's lap!! Then they were surprised when the airline said no.... sorry but some common sense please!!! Anyway if you think you can go with just the regular seat, otherwise if you are paying for a seat anyway you might as well take a car seat if it's not too much hassle for you. Just check it's an approved type. We had a couple bring on a baby capsule, it was labelled 'for aircraft use' but it actually wasn't. I think Maxi-Cosi is ok, maybe the other mums could tell you what they've flown with before. edited by SkyKitty on 07/01/2012

There will be extra capacity Dubai to KL as Emirates have started the A380 on this route. PPerhaps a factor in Malaysian deciding to pull the flight? Is it permanent, or just a seasonal thing for MH?

There's no set formula, as everyone is different, but as a professional "jetlagger", I've found the following helpful: Get sunlight as soon as possible after you land. If it's still daylight when you land, try not to sleep for as long as possible. It's hard at first but if you can go to bed when it's dark and wake when it's light, your body adjusts much better. (Melatonin helps reset the body clock.- Natural melatonin that is. Synthetic is just a placebo I'm told) Drink plenty of water/fluids and affoid caffeine as much as you can. Eat when you're hungry, not because it's "time" to back home. If you want cereal at 3am, then go for it. ust follow your body when it wants to eat and when it doesn't. If you have kids, then follow their "normal" routine as much as possible. If they have a bath & story before bed at home, then do the same when away. (Even if they're going to bed at 3pm lol) Alcohol won't help your sleep patterns, so try to avoid it on the plane. Ditto for sleeping pills, unless you REALLY have to- they wreak havoc on your system and mean you are at higher risk of DVT from not moving around. edited by SkyKitty on 07/01/2012

Bear in mind you receive accommodation, utilities and transport. The flying pay makes it up considerably not to mention you are paid a local allowance at destination to cover meals when travelling. Don't want to put exact figures here that aren't already on the site, so you can put an email address or head along on the 21st Jan to the Open Day- they give the latest figures & info there. you can just attend and not apply if you choose, or apply on the day. Details are under this link [url=https://ekgrpapplications.emirates.com/careersonlineapps/CC_OPENDAYS/CabinCrewOpenDays.aspx?j=f&pub=/english'>link[/url'>

FOr Emirates, additional languages are a bonus but NOT a requirement. Yes, we have plenty of multilingual crew but just as many with only English. Arabic is an advantage but to be honest I wouldn't say I was an Arabic speaker, only because they have so much trouble trading flights and changing rosters around as there is minimum of 1 or 2 required on every flight. Yes EK= Emirates EY= Etihad, these are the standard industry codes. You can find all the salary info at www.emiratesgroupcareers.com HTH

Also if we are speaking striclty about crew I would not say that EK are going for more Asians these days- quite the opposite I would say mostly Eastern European and westerners from what I see in the training classes. Definitely not Filipinos as they have so many already. For other roles, I couldn't tell you to be honest, there's so many different nationalities.

True- but- if your DH is in any department other than crew the contracts and working conditions are MUCH better for them. I have friends who have worked as crew for both, and as an Aussie female in early 20's, their advice was EK then EY... I too had decided on EY and got through the process only to be told no thanks- despite having done the medicals... kept in touch with a few girls there and all left within a year. TO each their own but all I know who have worked for both said only go to Etihad if you can't get EK... the overall 'environment' is much better at EK (packages i.e. salary are much the same, I am talking how much 'independence' you have)

Girl A, all the interview process is now done in the country where you first attend, plus the pre-employment medical. I did hear it's changed and that the costs are now borne by Emirates, but I find that very hard to believe as it's been candidate-paid since the begininng. FOr an Aussie though, a lot of the required tests can either be bulk billed or covered by Medicare. I think I was only out about $300- pretty standard for a pre-em medical these days I think) You even get approval from the airline while still in your home country- they will not let you fly unless they are extremely sure you will pass the residency visa medical. I know of maybe 2 cases in the time I've been here that were sent home, out of thousands. Lol @ 'studnety'- that's exactly how I described it once- we get picked up and dropped off to 'school' on a bus, we get in trouble if we make too much noise in the apartments, we sign our visitors in (for security reasons of course) and we have to wear a uniform properly or get in trouble :P :) Yes, heaaaaaaaaps of parties etc if you're so inclined, but that is Dubai. I know of girls who spend their entire salary shopping & partying and live off baked beans and noodles. Others do uni/studies on all of theri days off, and still others support families back home. So you do choose how involved you get in the social scene. I'm a bit of a homebody so I manage to save. With regard to paying off a mortgage, it's possible but the first few months are a bit tough as you have some start up costs. If you can budget to cover those payments with savings for the first say 3-4 months you should be fine. I was sending hoem 4-500AUD a month to cover loan/debts. I did struggle a bit in the beginning but I just told my provider whatwas going on and asked can I just delay 2 payments and cop the late fees for those months. Wasn't any problem at all, I'd say communication is key. Anyway, good luck EMily whatever you decide!

If it's just the screen, you could try to DIY and get the screen from Ebay... I didn;t think I could do it but there's plenty of websites on google which show you how in pics... all you need is the replacement screen and a tiny screwdriver :) I was quoted 850dhs just to repplace the screen. Buying screen n ebay was $75USD!

Lil Bubbles, plenty of short-a$$es at Emirates, :) so long as you can reach a height of 214cm on a wall you're all good, no matter how tall you are... nice policy whereas other airlines rule on overall height which isn't great as some shorter people have a long arm reach and can still reach very high up...

Get the ultrasonic plug-ins from Carrefour. (Unless you have pets, then don't) We started using them as were getting those weird little bugs everywhere. within hours, they were all gone. My mum used to have them as well, we got so many roaches in our old place (backing onto bushland) and they all scarpered as well. Best thing is, no chemicals involved!

Lol, so many Aussies in Emirates I'm not kidding I think (on the air crew side of things) the biggest four nationalities are Indian, Filipinos, Aussie and British. Well, when I started anyway. But if you have what they're looking for, they will hire you. Yes you are sometimes a 'waitress n the sky' but you are also so much more and the job can be very rewarding. Plus you get to travel. For sure some people treat you like dirt but to be honest I' ve been treated like that in every job I've had- at least in this one if I do get harassed by customers at the end of it I'm in New York or Bangkok. Can't say that about a retail or restaurant job! :)

The base of the neck and behind the ears are the firs tplaces they will go for. I had them terribly in high school, I was getting re-infested constantly for over a year. there is another thread and I'm sure I posted on it but the best thing we ever did was buy a Robi comb. It won't work soley on its own but in combination with the thorough checking it gave us peace of mind in between outbreaks. It won't get the eggs off but it will kill any newly-arrived adults before they can do too much damage. Ugh I hate the little b@stards!!

GIven your age and that you want to come to Dubai- have you at all considered working for a company like Emirates? Don't laugh ladies, at least then she could come out here having a job, accommodation and most major expenses paid for. On the off days you could study a course and get that education, then in a few years you'd have that all important degree and start the job hunt then. You'd also get the travel side of things without having to outlay a ridiculous amount of money. I won't lie it is nowhere near as glam as people would like you to think- BUT it pays the bills, is not the worst job I have had and you have some pretty darn amazing days at work going to new places. Lots of crew here study in their spare time and have gone on to other jobs/careers in Dubai. Maybe one of the ladies here has done the same. Coming here like this would also give you the chance to see the 'real' Dubai and if you actually like it as much in a year or two as you do now. edited by SkyKitty on 03/01/2012

regarding betteries, old phones, cameras etc.. if you know anyone who works for Emirates they have an electronics disposal box in their main building. Actually, if I recall correctly it used to be in the main passageway from the metro so you MIGHT be allowed in to use it if you told security what you were there for. As far as I know visitors are allowed in the HQ building as long as they sign in so it'd be possible to do if you were out that way.

Yeah I wouldn't say there's compounds, but definitely housinh estates- as in "suburbs" clustered around schools, shopping center, park, sports grounds etc. Ellenbrook was probably the first of these 'modern' type of estate in Perth. Most councils have a public swimming pool and there'd always be one within a suburb or two. I used to live in the Bayswater area and there were three or four pools within a 5-15min drive. tbh I think furniture is the same as Dubai, you will get pricey and cheap, it all depends where you shop.

Keeping in mind there are paperwork fees of about 70dhs, and somethign else which I can't remember. None of which is actually "advertised" on the Sns website. I found out the same way with my first Sns orer, that you ARE due for customs charges. customs website implies if it's under 3k dhs & for personal use then you don't pay customs fees. blatant revenue raising if you ask me, so much for 'tax free country'. stupid thing is they even do it on stuff which you can't get here... Even in Australia something has to be over AUD$900 or for commercial use before customs will slug you with duty.

Given that the tvs are shipped in the boxes they come in, I'd say that would be the best idea. Just make sure you have the styrofoam surrounds. It would obviously go through the oversize/fragile baggage area so there MAY be fees involved. If it fits in a suitcase you could also do that for extra protection. I used to check in tvs all the time in just the boxes and they seemed to be fine. Ask your airline for advice. edited by SkyKitty on 31/12/2011

Oh just remembered.... pure aloe vera gel can do great on scars- friend's toddler burnt himself at 2yrs, all over face, shoulders & neck with a hot pot of tea. Once his pressure suit came off they used it every day, he is now a teenager and no scars to be seen. Drinking aloe can also help with nausea too. Just be sure that she checks with her doctor before trying/taking anything new at first.

The immune system is very vulnerable at that time, so I would think the body is directing its energy to healing from the chemo, and elaving the "less important" task of scar healing for alter, if that makes sense. I have a friend going through the same, will ask her if she found anything that helped this. Hope your friend is going ok.

I travel to the airport for work a lot; we have been advised to allow extra time to travel from the SZR/Trade Ctr end of time (at least 45 extra minutes) or to take the Metro.... might be owrth checking how late it will run as I'm sure I read they will run it late on NYE to try reduce congestion on the roads. Of course before midnight it will be crowded going TO town, not from... so you might be ok. And yes, despite the signage, luggage IS allowed on the metro, so long as you keep it out of the way.

You could look for charms with a 'lobster claw' clasp- that way she can take them on and off as mood fits. Keep them all together with bracelet in a padded box when not in use. So, you can still collect but not have to wear all of them at once. You can also add these to a necklace as well. I have a charm bracelet like this, I usually wear it with 5 or 6 charms but sometimes only one.

Upwords is a good easy one. Pictionary always fun, especialyl if playing with girl/boy teams- 'lost in translation' was never so literal!! Monopoly good but can get boring fast. One we used to play, but probably couldn't buy here, was called "Battle of the Seskses". Men had to answer questions on 'women's subjects' and vice versa. E.g. questions about make up, or women talking about car repairs, photo of an eyeliash curelr and they have to explain what it's for. Yes a tad sexist but funny to find out just what the other seckes know about each other!!

All they needed to do was to put a 'big' attraction at the other end- so that you had to walk past to get to say, a supermarket, a movie theater or other 'big' shop like H&M. Feel sorry for the people selling there. It was the same when I first went there over 1 year ago. Felt bad that I couldn't buy anyhting, they all looked so bored!
