Daughters can continue to be sponsored by parents. Sons can only continue if in full time education with a letter from their school stating they are which you can then extend their visa for the final academic year. After that period fathers can no longer sponsor them and have to be done by their employers if remaining in Dubai. I have personally done this for three sons and one daughter.

3-4-3 travelling last month / January to NCL on Emirates. Usually go direct and clear customs there. Went on BA a few weeks earlier in December to NCL via LHR and it is quick and easy through transit and you clear customs there so no need to on arrival at NCL. Only thing is having to get the airport tram thing to the terminal then passport control, head up stairs for more baggage screening before finding your gate. Usually go direct. But one thing is very noticeable..... Flying London to Newcastle is obviously a smaller plane so not as much baggage to wait to come through to find yours. While flying on a much bigger plane direct had us waiting nearly an hour for one bag to come through as so many people and luggage. KLM the other option via Amsterdam. Done that many times too and is ok. But direct is still best if you can and good departure and arrival times too. edited by Solo on 27/02/2014

Up until the age of 21 he will only be issued with a one year UAE driving licence. Which will have to be renewed annually here until that age. NOC from Dad if he is the sponsor, you can pay Dhs150 at the optician at the mall if it's easier and they will do the eye test and give you a stamped pass certificate to take with you to the RTA here. Passport copy, British driving licence, NOC letter, eye test certificate and Emirates ID.

Hi me2013, No, our children didn't experience any speech delays. Our first set of twins would talk to each other at first in 'baby language' and seem to understand each other and even laugh at things they said to each other before picking up words and sentences together too. So progressed at the same pace. The younger set of twins also did the same though one of them, our daughter walked many months earlier than her twin brother.....she was only 8 months!!!!......and would toddle off as tiny as she was to bring her twin brother things after a 'chat' together. They both progressed together in speech though. His interaction with other children at nursery might draw out those awaited words given more time. Maybe his twin has taken on the role for both of them in being able to answer you and do things and he will in his own time follow suit, with it all in there but not yet being displayed. To this day our four all seem to know what the other will say and answer each others sentences. As parents we are used to hearing a story separately told to us four times over...... But let them each tell us. But they usually guess after they are the second or third to say that we already know. Hopefully things for him will progress soon, but please try not to worry. Children are all individuals even if they are twins.

Had an email today from Geant. One of their offers at the moment is for IPad minis which they are selling for Dhs 999. Link won't paste but go to their website and you can see their current Getex offers which might help if on a budget. I have both size iPads but starting to use my mini one much more as like others say, fits in your bag, for work, much lighter and screen size is not an issue. Hope this helps.

I have always thought it was for Movember. Yes, I have seen jewellery, clothes and other items with moustache on them all year round. But the original symbol for Movember was the same so presumed it was for Prostate Cancer awareness too.

Obviously allot will of changed since our two sets of twins were born at Al Wasl Hospital (Latifa Hospital) here in Dubai. But I still say I would of gone nowhere else even if it was today. Our care both times was excellent and our first set of twins spent time in Special Baby Care Until. As I had gone in to labour at 31 wks and but just managed to pass 32 wks being in labour two days....and receive my last injection to clear their lungs of fluids before they were born naturally but after 42 hrs of labour. My husband was with me the whole time and the British midwife in charge at the hospital looked after us all and no question of him not being there even that long ago. Being a mum to 1.7kg and 1.9 kg babies was all new to us and she was there throughout the following days to help with feeding and bathing and showing me then a 20 yr old how to look after them both on our own. The hospital wasn't used to hands on mothers and my husband and I were in on every detail. Sadly we never witnessed another mother the whole time in the unit with their babies as we were told by philipino nursing staff this was usual and we were nice to see but a surprise. Every possible test was done on them both the time they were there. They had excellent care as did we too. They came home at 12 and 17 days. Still very tiny but pleased they were home. Our second twins arrived by emergency c-section. A very different pregnancy altogether, and we were all home in 5 days. I needed a blood transfusion, which I refused and went for iron injections instead and had pregnancy diabetes too throughout and they wanted to keep me in too due to high blood pressure but I wanted to be home with our other children too and did so at my own choice. Having two two year olds and two new borns was obviously hard work and busy. I didnt drive at the time. We had no family or other home help and it has continued this way through them growing up. I wouldn't of let anyone have them anyway, and so we have managed very well ourselves growing up in Dubai and then our children being brought up here too too without the need of any help. You just manage your time differently to cook, wash and clean and iron when there is time it all comes together eventually. I became the queen of multitasking. Shopped with them at quite times of day and they all just went everywhere we did. To this day when I finish work I tend to be cooking for 6, but thinking two days ahead still what to make. Out two eldest were not good sleepers. Having been prem babies we were for the first few months advised to wake them to feed every 2hrs until they reached a certain weight. Unfortunately this pattern didn't break and they continued to wake themselves even when they were given the all clear to leave to sleep and wake naturally for feeds. They never slept through until they were 2. Then their brother and sister arrived! Looking back you do forget allot as you are in a busy whirlwind. New borns, potty training in pairs, sleepless nights, schools and everything. We didn't send them to nursery I couldn't of coped with that and when it came to it I hated my eldest going to school so much that when I was offered a job working school hours that my younger two children at home could also be with me there I took it to keep us just as busy as I had been with all four home. So two went to school then us to work. I wouldn't change a thing, with them having this year turned 21 and 18 we are such very proud parents and of them all so we must of coped ok to of got this far. Still sane too (I think.....?) edited by Solo on 14/08/2013

http://cokestudio.coca-cola.com/tccc-sacn-webapp/findyourname?lang=en They have added new names to the most popular names available list. Possibly their campaign across the country around shopping centres, festivals and events where you can create your own bottle just by typing in your name have had them taking them into account and adding new names to their original list. I like their sharing a coke campaign personally and hope it carries on.

Was in the Uk during July. Named bottles in supermarkets, vending machines, fast food outlets.... All over. Saw quite a few names that would be popular here. As well as 'friends' and 'family' ones. We were at a shopping centre one day when parking and they had set up a big Coke stand. It had machines you could go up to and type your name into and then collect your bottle with your name requested from the machines at. It was great as my name and daughters aren't on the top 150 names they use so made ourselves some personalised bottles while passing.

'You will be needing a minimum of one person to help you e.g. maid PLUS your mother'....... This isn't always the case. If you get yourself into a routine early on then no help other than your husbands should be needed. My first set of twins born at 32 weeks never slept through until they were 2yrs old when our second set, their twin siblings then came along. We all cope differently but we have never had a maid, nanny, or any grand parents to help out at all and though yes....very tired over the years .....we had four under 3 yrs of age growing up here and no help. Our choice but completely possible.

Have a Dulce Gusto we brought back from the Uk two years ago. It was half the price as those here. Since been looking at the new Lattissima Nespresso machines which are all price locked at Dhs2,400 here in various stores. So a weekend in the Uk trip with hand luggage only, saw us buying one in England and bringing it back three weeks ago and it costing the equivilant of Dhs1,280 in John Lewis!! Along with a variety box of 40 pods and £40 free Nespresso online order credit. Well worth the 4.5 kilos luggage. Lattissima was chosen by my husband due to the attached milk frother which self cleans at a touch of a button! Highly recommended and easy to use. edited by Solo on 25/06/2013

Years ago when there was a backlog of undelivered post this end. Especially after Ramadan and so on, they used to just burn it all on the beach and was common knowledge. 30+ years on living here, you don't come to expect that you will receive many personally posted items and if you do they have been uncaringly opened instead of just scanned and security tape added as a sort of indication of it being acceptable that your mail has been tampered with.

Had been looking at TV's in Carrefour on and off as needed to buy four new flat screen ones. Saw the same service lady most visits who talked us through our choices but never pushed us either way which is a first. Once we finally decided which ones over various visits, she said to hold off a few days on the ones we had decided upon as knew of a promotion coming up on the brand we were going to opt for and said she would call us when they went on offer seems we were buying four. True to her word a few days later I got a call which I didn't expect at all and went straight from work and was able to buy four at a few hundred dirhams less each. Positive experience too.

Totally agree with children being taught independence and given responsibilities from early ages. Never had home help here myself while growing up or once married and had our children, though work and have more than the average number of children. I see so many children here who can't do the simplistic tasks for themselves or blame it on a helper when they have forgot something.....'my maid didn't pack it!'...... Mine all help, we all work hard and we all help out cooking, cleaning, washing etc..... One of mine was shocked the other day when someone in their sixth form class said she'd never even made her bed before! Not something I think she should of been proud of sharing! edited by Solo on 26/04/2013

There's a shop opposite LuLus Al Barsha I have used before. Depending where you are located. Just park T LuLus at the front and walk directly across the road. Dh1 for 10 copies. Says it on the window too. Used it to copy a stack of school reports that were needed at the time and were also binded too.

My daughter burnt her fore arm about 6-7 years ago very badly. We were at a motor sports venue and was taken by ambulance to Rasid Hospital for treatment. She was in secondary school at the time and for 6 weeks follow up after college each day we went to have it cleaned and dressed at the government clinic we were referred to. Who dealt with us witout appointments and just went each afternoon to see the nurse afterschool time. After 6 weeks we were given all medication to continue when needed at home. They layered a new skin type dressing over it daily which drew out all fluids that accumulated and could be peeled off taking all puss with it and kept the wound dry and clean and a new one put on each time. They gave us Mebo cream for the burn and to stimulate cell regeneration. Although she does have a noticeable burn still I feel it would of been far worse without the treatment she received at Rashid hospital firstly then the clinic over the following 6 weeks. edited by Solo on 09/04/2013

Went yesterday morning with children to do all their mobiles. Just went to Etisalat desk at MOE. Transferred two from fathers name to mine seems I was there and saved him going another time and i could complete it all then and there.....at the cost of Dh50 each and the others were in my name too already. Queued for about 10 mins and four registered and two with transfer of name in about 5 mins. The line was twice the length when all done, I think everyone got the same message at the same time and all decided to go yesterday. Only issue was that if not 18 the phone still can't be in your name, but still left the over 18 year olds in mine so I didn't have to pay for two more transfers though had all gone with ID cards.

I would always recommend Al Wasl for their NICU. Althought it was many years ago now that we had our two sets of twins there. To this day I will always say that our children received the best ever care. Sorry, can't help with the insurance side as it wasn't the case and government health card was all you needed. But hands down I, I will always champion this hospital and known others since who have experienced all good too with their babies care.

Probably no help at all as no personal experience with the hotel you are booked at. But from their website it states suitable for two adults and one (small) child..... But then says up to 11 years of age? But using existing daybed/sofa bed in the room. So unsure how this will work for two children. As a family of 6 we have travelled and stayed in Phuket nearly a dozen times. We have always booked family suites when they were babies, then two connecting rooms when they were toddlers until teens now three rooms when staying as all big. But baring in mind we go for 3 weeks to 4 weeks at a time so like your home for the time you are there so like to have plenty of room and are two of us in each. Rooms all being 42sq ft each. Understanding you are on a budget. I would say honestly though that you probably won't be in your rooms much apart for sleeping. Your children aren't babies and need to be put down during the day to sleep and if like us there is plenty to do in Thailand and you at hardly ever in your room at all between going for breakfast and then until heading to bed. Having been so many times we still find more to do each visit and expect you will be he same. So if you are only going for a short week or so trip, maybe the arrangement will be ok as long as they can assure you of where the second child will sleep within your room. Twin beds in our hotel which our children have in their two rooms are queen size each. So maybe that is the hotels thoughts. Sorry, probably not much help but saw no one was answering.

Have been staying in Patong in Phuket for the past 19 years as a family. Staying at The Holiday Inn Resort right opposite the beach either in the main wing or Busakorn wing, mainly stay in the Busakorn Wing.....for 3 weeks to a month at a time, now over a dozen times, I guess you can tell we love it.Our first holiday we stayed at Le Meridian but ever since at The Holiday Inn. http://www.holiday.phuket.com/ http://www.phuket.holiday-inn.com/ Not big night life people at all ourselves but plenty of it going on until the early hours on the main Soi which can be walked to on an evening if that's what you want. Always fly thai airways from Dubai. DXB / Bangkok / Phuket. Flight times much better than any others airline for checking in on arrival and also departure times. Infact our last stay in summer the flights had changed slightly and were even better.

Went to Spinneys after work to food shop the other afternoon. Thought I'd get the jeep washed while shopping so called over to a car clearer in the car park after parking. Me: Excuse me can you wash my jeep please? (Looking in bag for the money). Car Cleaner Man walks over to my jeep and looks at it......walks round it and says 'No'. Me: But it needs washing so can you wash it please. Man: No. Me: (Puzzled) But why not? Man: Dirty, can't wash. Me: But that's why I need it washed. Man: No, can't wash..... Dirty. Me: So you only wash clean cars? Man: Yes, company policy........then walks away! Shopped in frustration with a wonky wheeled trolley, was ignored when asking for things to be priced, over charged when at the till for discounted items and went home in my 'dirty' jeep and power hosed my it down myself and washed all my frustrations away of Spinneys.

A bit hit and miss with the post in the early years here. Might arrive when sent, might not but still I posted things regardless. Used to sent about two weeks in advance of the date it needed to arrive, but find things now taking allot less time to arrive then before. Around a week, depending on the day and time put in the box. Sent a book last year by post which book 3 months to arrive to a friend, but then I posted the same friend some Pandora beads all packaged up just from the post box at the mall a few months ago after having it weighed and putting on the stamps required and it all arrived fine in a week too. Which cost me only Dhs32 and got there in a week intime fir her Birthday when DHL wanted Dhs350 and then told me it would be 3-4 days and possibly charge my friend import duty on arrival on top?! So I chanced the post and got there just fine. All my Christmas cards went in December and took 7-10 days and that was around National Day I sent them too so had expected longer. Usually 5.50 for a normal card, 9.50 a bit bigger. But happy to just put more on them to be on the safe side. Been here over 30 years and its defiantly improved.

School will provide a letter to be able to renew your sons visa though he is 18. It will state that he is in education there until the end of the academic year and his visa will be renewed accordingly. Two of mine were renewed for 1 year and were already over 18 but still in college. In the same process again soon with another son also in final year of education but visa to be renewed. Letters were typed up the day of asking in English and Arabic and stamped the day of contacting the school for them.

There is a small shop on Satwa Main Street, now named 2nd December Street that hires out suits and dinner jackets. We have used them on and off for a few decades and are very good. Think they are called Murad, always been great. When husband and later teens needed them.....If heading from Beach road to Trade Center it will be on your right and if from Trade Center to beach road the our left. Have a feeling it's near the Pharmacy / Haagen Daz the start of the shops when on your right. All measured up, available on time at a few days notice and return simple. Not sure about dress hire. Sorry but if no luck there are many sales on at the moment and seen lots of evening dresses about at 50%. Unless you have something special in mind that you want for just one evening.

Congratulations! Delivered our two sets of twins (many years ago now) at Al Wasl..... Now Latifa. Would recommend it to this day regarding high risk or multiple birth deliveries. First set (identical) born at 32 weeks naturally..... Well after a 42 hour labour!!!! And second set (fraternal) born at 37 weeks by emergency unplanned c- section. Have had numerous double pushchairs, prams and buggies through both sets. Even opting for single ones at one point too..... Pros and cons for all. So it will just be down to personal preferences, width, storability and fold ability too while holding two babies too. Bouncy seats were invaluable. Heart burn a nightmare which after reading your post brings back memories of the smell of it to this day..... Which soon turned to gripe water and infacol smells instead:)

I used bouncy chairs or individual prams which we kept set up in the home for both my sets of twins as newborns when not in their cots or Moses baskets. They had neck supports and we're invaluable with all of them to be able to go room to room with me. We took them everywhere with us too on holidays etc....I had baby slings too but no use for carrying two. I just found lining up their bouncy chairs worked or us.

Went from Championship racing in Rotax Max series for seniors and juniors for a number of decades before we then opted to help with running / Clerk of Course and instructor for ARKs tests and marshalling too, the events for a few years after that, including the world finals held in al ain, but no long due to busy work, exams and full weekends at tracks. It is a great sport to get into. Have been there through street racing, the opening of jebel Ali, the Autodrome and al Ain. Which the races are held between Autodrome/al Ain. It can be a very expensive sport. Well with us all owning and maintaining our own karts which we still choose to own.....especially but nothing can compare to the thrill. Leaving on a high with first and second junior champions at the time, DD2 and myself the only femal in the lightweights series coming 8th. Lost 46 kilos doing it myself with a WW book 6 years ago here. No WW groups here, written to them on numerous occasions about starting support groups but same response all the time of them not havng any future plans for the Middle East. Kept it off and and use my books and apps all the time. Have the magazines ordered from England sent out over a number of years. Never been a problem and delivered to po box on time each month. Just re subscribed for the following year last week. You must work in shifts to myself clearing out shelves of their products too, cupboards fit to bust with all I see and whoe family eat the cookies from LuLus as we have. Many bags of te packets! I prefer the Pure Points to the Pro points but things change o I guess we have to too...... Good luck on following it, the app is very helpful if you haven't got the calculator at hand which I always forget to take with me. edited by Solo on 03/09/2012
