You have to be up front and tell people no. They have no right, good intentions or not to whisk away your child to show her off to others thinking it is acceptable. I always drew allot of attention when my children were small, imagine two sets of twins, two babies and two, two year olds holding the double pushchair sides......lots of blonde hair too to ruffle too. It was like swarms of bees round a honey pot. This was 20 years ago too so even more of an attraction to see them, though felt more like a freak show. Firm and clear. I had mine on reigns from the get go, but to be honest I eventually started to food shop with them late at night to save the hassle of it all and double the time it took being stopped down every aisle. Twins, twins echoing in my ears.....when confronted I would say, no...... Just born on the same day. As daft as it was the few seconds it took for them to ponder my response...... I was off!!! For your own daughters sense and safely too of knowing not to go off with strangers it needs to be addressed whenever it happens so she knows it isn't the right thing to be picked up and taken away from mummy and daddy....... Just my opinion. edited by Solo on 26/08/2012

Went to Hili Fun City many years ago as a teenager with friends. Went on a roller coaster ride and the bar never came fully down shut on my seat (wasnt completely up but enough to have you not be secured in it properly)....while the two friends either side of me did have their bars come down and lock properly. The ride started before anyone knew it wasnt down fully and I spent a terrified length of it being held down by the people either side of me, screaming my head off for a whole different reason than the other people on it. Will never forget the experience and never recommend either. edited by Solo on 18/08/2012

Not sure about ready prepared take away turkeys but most supermarkets have frozen ones all year round. We often buy one a few times a year and roast up with all the veg etc....and have cold the following few days like you would over Christmas for sandwiches and salads. Big turkeys too, 10 kg plus not litte ones. Saw some in Spinneys last month for sure, LuLus usually have and Choithrams too I have also bought from.

Checked the coast was clear and went out quickly with the Jif Lemon Juice bottle from the fridge. Did wash down too so hopefully not too sticky but also not too diluted either. Fingers crossed!

Thank you very much for your replies. Also read on my search this morning that they don't like citrus so possibly that as well as lavender might help as intended to bleach down outside when we can actually get out to properly do it. Would prefer them to be removed completely with no chance of return, but I doubt very much the mother could ever be homed she is so feral. Any further suggestions we would be very greatful for.

Writing this from Phuket. ( confessing to this being our 10 th visit.....) Been here about two and a half weeks to far and still a while to go. Haven't had a drop of rain the hole time on land. We always travel here in their 'monsoon' season but very rarely see any rain. On a boat trip the other day and there was a quick down pour over the islands at sea..... But nothing on land at all. We always fly Thai airways from Dubai. Via Bangkok. Flight times ideal both ways, leave DXB about 9 pm....... Arrive back in Dubai about 8 pm. So no silly middle of the night times to get up from either departures or arrivals. It's currently in the low to mid 30's. Quite high humidity at times but as always beautiful!!! Enjoy! edited by Solo on 04/08/2012

Didn't see any Starbars this morning in Park and Shop and did a quick look as had read your post earlier this morning......plenty of chocolates all over the shop though on special offer shelves which expires later in July or mid August as checked..... all buy one get one free or marked half price......Clubs, Poppets, Walnut whips, Double Deckers, Toffee Crisps, Tootie Fruties, Aeros.......etc....... Double Decker fan too myself, but sadly or stupidly, didn't get any for myself. Won't help with the Starbars search but maybe someone else's cravings for the weekend.:)

Hi, all I did is go to O2 and buy a chip for my phone. Which gives you a uk number and however ever much credit on it you wish to pay for. Minimum 10 pounds I think, then top up as you go just via your number with them when needed and passing. Never had a problem, happy to sell you a pre paid number. Think other phone providers will offer something similar......had an Orange one years ago but ran out as wasnt back to use it again for a length of time.No problem with getting micro sims for iPhones at all. Have used the same number now when returning and credit was still on it and fine. Then on return put my Dubai chip back in without any worry of extra costs. Hope this helps. edited by Solo on 11/07/2012

Be prepared to wait...... Which I wasn't, and called after 6 weeks to find out where the two passports I sent were when it stated 4 weeks on the site for return after credit card had been deducted. I was put on hold to the UK for about 15 mins, asked two questions when I got through...... What country was I calling from and what was my credit card details..... Only once given will they let you ask them anything. We were billed 4 times when on the phone, when it should of been twice only....... sorry tey said, nothing we can o about that...... Then to be told that they had passed the first stage and awaiting the second and third stages still. Which was printing in England, then after that be to be DHL'd back which is to the delivery address you filled in on the application. New passports came back at nearly 7 weeks..... Without the old one which still deems it useless as has your visa in. So we then call again to enquire when the old ones would be returned......country, credit card details.....two more deductions, not forgetting the 15 mins on hold again..........then told that the old ones are returned from Germany only after the new ones sent from England are received back. So 4 weeks was almost 8!!!!! So don't leave things to the last minute. I had intended to do in Easter for summer travel but wasn't able too, so sent as soon as I could and had me worried the whole wait in case something came up when they were needed and not here....... Also if they have been away over the Jubilee period they told me that about four or five days of that week wet Bank Holiday days...... So there goes half a week of the process time they consider not counted. A huge sigh of relief as all back now, and such a stress when it was so simple and quick before when done here. edited by Solo on 02/07/2012

Congratulations on finding out what your new arrival will be! I'm sure with the sounds of things your son is already quite excepting of the forth coming new arrival and will be an outstanding 'big' brother when time comes, helping to prepare things now and share in what was always soley his before.....This also means sharing his mummys time as well and hopefully he will adapt to that too as well over the coming months. With delivering two babies, then again two more we soon became a couple, family of four then family of six in a short period of time and everyone adapted and coped and learnt to share our time quite naturally.........As will yours. It has taken me many years to realise I can't be there in all instantaces for everyone at all times, but try my damnedest to be and do....... As mine have grown over the years I have looked back and thought how much pressure I put on myself, and realised that the world wouldn't of collapsed around me if I'd backed off a little...... Though still don't.... But can know its true and advise it to others even if I don't take it to heart always myself if ever and at all with ease. As for all those males in your household, we had three boys and one girl in our two sets of twins and wouldn't have it any other way. Yes, lots of football on but just get involved too. I can explain the offside rule quite confidently and as for motor racing........ I just joined in and ended up the only female in the UAE Championship a number of years ago racing. Tee hee! You'll be fine. Honest! edited by Solo on 01/07/2012

You are stressing yourself out needlessly so. You need to be enjoying your time and not freaking. Although you are concerned about how your husband might manage your little one at home and him only settling once seeing you, then maybe for the following months before delivery let your husband see to him at night if he wakes to get him used to when you go into hospital. As for the household things, as long as he's happy, fed and cared for, the washing can wait. We had two two year old twins when our second twins arrived by c- section. The time I was in hospital the first twins were quite ill with a tummy bug, and upset too with me not there and I worried myself sick in hospital of them at home not well.....to the point I discharged myself far too soon refusing to stay though I had high blood pressure and needed iron injections as follow up too. Looking back, the children were fine, husband a star and new babies needed me too and I thought I had to be everywhere when I couldn't be. So just concentrate on yourself and new baby and leave home, son and husband to it. The hospital at one point said they'd let me go home for half a day as long as I left my babies there to ensure I cam back as I was so worried. So I stayed in another day and then all went home. Never had home help so can't comment there....but you just work on auto pilot and do as you did with one, just with two. I got used to having a bath with four in the room with me, bouncy chairs were moved from room to room and the two year olds grew up very quickly and were super big brothers relishing in helping when they could with their little brother and sister.....and yes a trip out became a well planned operation.... washing, cooking, cleaning, feeding, leaves little spare time but that's part of parenthood and if things get let for a bit then so be it, there's more important things and time with your family than having those shirts all ironed on time. I learnt to buy wash and wear materials! edited by Solo on 30/06/2012

Many Congratulations! Very pleased for you both on the arrival of your boys. Great news! Our first set of twins (of two sets that we have- identicle and fraternal) were also little bundles of very similar weights, but believe me they grow FAST! Enjoy your new arrivals and thanks for posting your happy news!!!!

Always look forward to our family holidays to Thailand.....love Watsons the chemist there and also have Boots. Come back stocked up with lots of cheaper things from them, even sell mini packs in Boots with 4 Imodium tablets in them which are handy to travel with and will sell in Watsons strips of tablets too if you don't need boxes of things. We travel back with much, much more than we go with medicine wise and never had problems ever.

Great idea. On the same lines at Christmas we all had envelopes to open with a note in each persons saying the enclosed amount was to be donated to a charity or person of their choice that my husband and I put together for ourselves, our children and grandparents that we were spending Christmas with....they all thought hard where they wanted their donations to go. Some went to breast cancer, Mcmillans, UNICEF, RNLI life boat fund, text Santa charities......etc. All up to the person who received to donate to who they wanted. You have your chosen recepients and donation already thought of. 100% yay! edited by Solo on 22/06/2012

Mixed experiences with post in the past 33 years of being here...... Mostly bad. Late post, letters and parcels never arriving. Some turning up but up to 4 months after sending. Even paid express delivery in November for an Amazon order for a c'mas present to have it arrive in March this year security taped down after beng checked here and was smashed to pieces! Also arrival date here had been months before according to the date of the written arrival date on the box from the head post office.....and only sent to our po box when bothered. Many years ago we had parcels one year sent to the wrong po box and a very kind local gentleman tracked us down via the name and a little investigation on his behalf as was sent to the wrong emirate and right number... and insisted on delivering them on in his own time in person after contacting us as he presumed they were important as nearly Christmas and children's names on them. Which he said he didn't want the children not to receive them. As for post never received years ago with massive back log in Ramadans....... It being set fire to on the beach was what we were always lead to believe and told was what happened....... Though couldn't confirm as it just never arrived. I always allow 10 days to 2 weeks to post from here for birthdays etc to the uk......Fathers day cards have been delivered already this week which I have had messages to confirm, so took 7 days, but birthday cards sent in February for family birthdays are still pending arrival!? edited by Solo on 13/06/2012

Funnily enough we bought two separate prams for our first set of twins, we bought in England before they were born one trip back and brought back with us.....when out on my own I always had one in a pram and alternate strapped to me. It worked well, and had two prams when out as a family, shops werent as big and open when they were born here like now, more crammed and no big malls.....which was easier to get around that way too without moving things out the way all the time. When able to sit up we had a dubble buggy, side by side easy to operate and travel with. But still struggled with shopping aisles at the time not being wide enough. Second set had a one in front of the other pram, easier to get round and through doors and have the then walking older set of twins holding on either side when out. Then a side by side collapsible buggy too when travelling. I still look at the new options when out as not as much choice by far when ours were born. Spoilt for choice now and seem allot narrower too.

My four children also twins all had dummies as babies, being born pre term also found them a source of comfort. They would go to sleep with them and like yourself my son of our second set became very attached to his. He would resettle once he had been given it if dropped. As time passed he often had two, one to hold and one to suck at bedtime. Though opinions will be different they didn't do any of ours any harm, and like yourself with four little ones if it helped them settle and not wake their siblings too then I see no harm in continuing if that is what makes him feel comforted.

Did WW on my own here, borrowed my sisters old books at the time and got my head into it......Lost 44 kilos, just under 7 stone about 6 years ago now, and kept it off. When in the uk I nip to the local meeting where they just let my husband in and myself now buy all I need and bring back for the year ahead. As those who know already, WW have no interest in starting up here. Many of us have been down that route in corrospondence to them over lengthy periods of time and just get the same response. So just continue with all my magazines, books and purchases brought out by the catering box load (i kid you not)and be happy with having achieved things on my own. Good luck to you, WW worked for me, though preferred it before changing to Propoints and still getting used to the new calculations and values. I'm the one you will spot sadly in the food aisle with my WW calculator or I phone application working values out before I put it n the trolley! Not just a diet they say, but a way of life...... Took over mine, but for the good.

Thank you, not a legend, just glad I've helped somehow. As you too, no family at all to help, no home help either through choice..... So on the go full time with them all and learn as you go along, day by day....., wash, cook, clean and iron when they slept .....but that's just the way we chose to do things. Multi tasking is key, I think you get it off pat until its just second nature. Anything else, I'm about to answer as honest as I can. Take care. edited by Solo on 22/04/2012

Hi, our identical twins were in two seperate sacs. Identical boys first delivery, and fraternal boy and girl the second delivery. I fed them for the first few weeks only, then expressed and bottle fed them. Yes, only usually set off the other and took forever to feed, not helped by the fact that we were told to wake them every two hours to feed to gain weight..... It would take two hours to feed them, so two hours was it from startung a feed or finishing? ........many question I had.........and when eventually allowed to let them sleep and wake for feeds on their own they had got so used to being woken for two hourly feeds.....they never slept and still woke up every two hours! ( of course as so into the routine). No - a c-section was never planned for either births. You can deliver naturally, as with our first two. The second set were an emergency c-section delivery so not planned either. At the time, Al Wasl was the only hospital able to take premature babies. So I registered there for both births. So still your best option cost / package wise I would still presume than any other private hospital if you aren't covered. I know mine were born a number of years ago now, but just having a health card covered all my costs when born, all special baby care unit costs, c-sections, appointments, tests, all. But no good telling you this as obviously changed and package options. But still the best option in my opinion and wouldn't say anything against the care we all had there ever. Yes- they will scream and you will be fine. I was only 21 when I had the first two and 23 with four..... And I live to tell the tale :-) tee hee! You will be fine and no point in worrying about things after delivery now throughout your pregnancy. Ok, I know I did too, but having done it.... Twice..... You will cope. Honest! I didn't find out I was expecting twins the first time round until I was 5 months pregnant, due to late scanning in Dubai years ago...... So not much time to flap about things as 7 weeks later they were here! The second two due to problems I found out at 10 weeks. Yes, they will be very young when you go back to wrk with maternity leave days so few here. But again, please don't worry about this now, the less stress for you the better. You can express for them if that is a concern while back at work, but whatever suits just go with. Best laid plans don't always go to plan, just take each day as it comes. 8-) Funny but years on I can't believe I remember so much to be able to help, though been through finding out, birth, baby stage, toddlers, schooling, teens and here to tell the tale......twice, so I hope I am of some help. edited by Solo on 19/04/2012 edited by Solo on 19/04/2012

No, not gaining allot of weight didn't cause me to go into premature labour. I went in as started bleeding and I was told I was already in labour. Too late to delay it, so was given a course of injections to mature the babies lungs over the following hours and after a long 42 hour labour they were born. A traumatic two days in labour and no epidurals at that time available, but I managed to get the last injections given before they arrived. So needed less care in SBCU than they could of.

Drink plenty of fluids and eat healthily as you will become more easily drained and tired as the babies grow. My first twins (identical) pregnancy I was craving lots of things but didn't gain too much weight, but my second twins (fraternal) pregnancy, was totally different I wasn't well throughout and gained much more weight and had pregnancy diabetes too. First twins born naturally at 32 weeks and were 1.7 and 1.9 kilos and in SBCU for 12 and 17 days, and second set at 37 by emergency c-section 2.4 and 2.5 kilos. All born at Al Wasl here. (Now renamed Latifa). Don't panic and take each day as it comes. Our one brought two, and third brought three and four...... Can't remember the first few years as function on auto pilot, as had four under two, but now all teens and best friends.......oh, and husband and myself are still sane......wouldn't change things for the world......!!!! So 'Double Congratulations'! Any questions I'll help if i can answer them.....as I'm sure there are other twin mums here willing to help too. edited by Solo on 19/04/2012

Arrived back yesterday from the North. Was cold the whole 5 days, bitter howling winds, 4-9 degrees only day time temps' colder during the night...., rained every day on and off and hail too. Bright sun at times but with bitter winds. Boots, coat, gloves, hat and scarf whenever out. Which was what all were wearing too, not just us feeling the cold. Speaking to family down South though said it was a bit better there. edited by Solo on 17/04/2012 edited by Solo on 17/04/2012

Over the fridges which have the boxed Swiss roll type cakes in...... Opposite the potatoes, local tomatoes/ peppers etc....rolled out icing also next to it boxes of rolled out marzipan. Never bought any myself, just notice each week it being there.

Our twins, first set late teens, second set mid teens now...... Didn't sleep through until over two years old! Born perm' at Al Wasl, we were told to not let them sleep longer than two hours and to wake them to feed as needed to gain weight. So did as were told and was in a constant roller coaster of feeds and by the time I'd finished they were almost two hours up and needed to start again! When eventually we were told that they were ok to be left to sleep and just wake when hungry on their own to be fed..... They of course were so set into their waking every two hours routine that they never slept!!!! When they just about cracked the code of sleeping longer at two.......their twin brother and sister came along. As they grew, I always made sure they never napped after lunchtime, tea and bottle and were always waiting dead on 7 pm at the stair gate for bed. Took a longggg time though to get to that stage.

I didn't find out I was expecting twins until I was 5 months pregnant !!!!!...... Due to later scanning done at Al Wasl for expectant mothers in the 1990's here ( their then rule, and sexes still not to be told to parents to be) ........which I was asked to sit down for the news by the staff at the time, and told it was twins. I delivered only 7 weeks later, to perm 1.8 kilo babies so not much time to come to terms with things all happening. Two years later........ I was told at an earlier 10 week scan, due to medical reasons I was scanned earlier...... that I was once again expecting a second set of twins.......a few choice words were uttered, while I came to terms with things once agin......Two, two year olds and two new babies...... All born at Al Wasl....... and though a very busy road and days I don't remember at all as functioning on auto pilot. We have four great teens, who we have never had any help with at all to this day.....and are the best friends as well as sibling. It might be a shock but you just get on with things. I was 21 with one set of twins, 23 with two sets. And husband and I are still sane! Wouldn't change things for the world. edited by Solo on 06/03/2012 edited by Solo on 06/03/2012

Congratulations! I delivered both my sets of twins in Dubai at Al Wasl Hospital. At the time there was limited choices of hospitals, but wouldn't of chosen any other way for them. First born at 32 weeks natural, and were both in special baby care unit there......and the second set of twins delivered at 37 weeks by emergency c-section. Couldn't fault their care but midwives and staff will of totally changed in the years since so I'm no help there.......but couldn't say a bad word about them with my experiences. First pregnancy I was fine throughout, very very different story for the second two. But all will be fine for you all I am sure. Best of luck! edited by Solo on 23/11/2011

Don't panic and take it as it comes, we have two sets of twins, no family or outside help at all.......and so had four under three years old at the time......two born 7 weeks perm, two born 3 weeks perm....all at Al Wasl Hospital..... All teens now, and myself and husband are still sane and have four great happy healthy children. You just learn to cope, multi task even more than usual and are rewarded later in life for all you put in........ you'll be fine!......honest! edited by Solo on 01/11/2011

Buy boxes most weeks in Lulus. Double boxes usually 10.95 only and last week when they didn't have them the single boxes were that which is still good value. Used to be only 7.95. But still a bargain. Wait until the Christmas stocks arrives and you 'll be able to get a meter long tube of them!!!!! edited by Solo on 26/10/2011
