Honestly ladies, there are alot of reasons people wear sunglasses indoors. I am one of them. So, not that it is anyones business .......I had both cataracts removed. My eyes are sensitive to light both outside and fluorescent mall lighting which can be very bright here with all the the roof windows. I find it much more relaxing for my eyes to wear my sunglass as well as they are prescription. You can often see me wearing my lightest sunglasses to watch t.v. Those with glucoma also find it gentler to wear sunglasses indoors and blue eyed people have more sensitive eyes as well....there are also other diseases where it is much more comfortable for people to wear sunglasses indoors. So before you get out the smart remarks, pull back a minute when someone asks a question to come up with an actual sensible answer as to why some wear sunglasses indoors. I cannot speak for the numbtees who walk into posts.

thats right. every 6 months minus a day to retain your visa. You dont have to live here full time but if you are bringing the kids on holidays that should probably work out fine. As for the maid, if you dont have a problem with her living in the house then, there is no problem :) but, she might be bored without the children as there is only so much housework one can do in a day. Could be a good idea to talk it over with her and see what different things she would do in your place? Grocery shop, prepare meals, take the laundry to the cleaners so think of the things you do now and teach her to do them in your place. She will actually have more responsibility as she will be acting as the housekeeper in a more active role of running the household and will be having to make more decisions without you there. If you feel she can do this then you have yourself a gem :)

If you are retaining your visa and still under your husbands sponsorship he is considered married. Whether you are here 10% of the time does not matter, so, yes, it is legal under these circumstances. Of course, if you cancel your visa etc then no as he would be classed as a bachelor as his wife does not live here. So, yes he can still retain a full time live in maid if he chooses. Ignore the peanut gallery :) <em>edited by SueB on 13/03/2012</em>

take down their license plate and walk the opposite way and call the police. I think it is very clever. If people do not do anything how in heck are the police going to know where to police? You must make sure you are safe so walking in the opposite direction and looking for people is an excellent idea..call the police. I would do this in my home country and certainly would do it here.

you immediately go around to the back of the car and take a picture of the license with your phone and go in the reverse direction. Call the police and give them the license number. Carry your phone so it is immediately useable. Run like **** to the nearest villa and ring the bell.

She is so ready for her new home, much more relaxed, loves to play, cuddles on her terms and has one heck of a personality, she makes me laugh out loud lol. loves to play catch and beat up her bear, carry the squishy ball in her mouth and absolutly love 'da bird' !!!!! she will worm her little self into your heart, guaranteed but in order to do that, you must take her home :)

I find I watch my old girl more now. The heating pad is in use, hot water bottle etc and..at night, our bodies. she measures her leaping on the bed abilities, but can still do it and I find i will fill her food dish and go where she is to make sure she eats. I have not put a litter box on the main floor yet as I feel the stairs are good for her right now and she is still able to navigate and its exercise :). She goes to the vets every 12 weeks for a checkup to make sure things are ok. I worry sick about her when I go away for extended periods. this year I will make short stints home then back here, then out again....we got her when she was about 9 or 10...she came originally from SA I understand and was pawned off to a few people as her original family left her in Abu Dhabi. We were looking for an old cat, much older than Babes but, my husband picked her so here she is :)... we love her to death./

OP, there's a general mood in Dubai right now (at least in my DH's line of work) that deals need to be put into place NOW because the economy could crash much harder when we least expect it. Hence I stop myself from complaining when DH catches every opportunity to work (on his phone, the iPad, etc). His productivity now is gonna mean financial security for our family. I've begun checking his work calender and every time I see a free slot between his schedule and my schedule I try to let him know in advance that slot is for our time together, or for time to spend as a family with our young kids. We've started having lunch together once every few weeks, using vouchers from the Fine Dining book. It feels special, it's relaxing to have a meal out without our young kids, and it gets DH in the mood for spending quality time. When we can't manage lunch, we put the kids to bed, then have the maid baby-sit while we leave the house and walk to a coffee shop for dessert. Yes, DH takes phone calls and checks email in that time, but he also keeps it short because he knows he had dedicated that time for his wife. Thats the way. You have both made the effort to make time for each other and family no matter how short it is.

The yowling is way down but read it all as it is very interesting ;0. My girl has arthritis and kidney problems but ok health wise other than that. She sleeps all the time and finds warm cozy places to put her bony bum ;)....anyway, hope the section on yowls helps ;) http://www.fabcats.org/behaviour/understanding/oldcats.html

we wives also must remember that we are supporting our husbands but the husbands also need to remember to support us as we cannot do it all alone :). Marriage and family is a shared experience. Sometimes one does more than the other but both do have to be engaged in the family so when you retire, you have a family that wants to be with you, rather than have one partner sacrificing all for the sake of the family but find at the end of the day, the family have no idea who you are. That is sad. There is always time, somewhere for the family and if not, it could be possible that the priorities are in the wrong place. Family should always come at the top of the ladder because they are the ones propping you up but if you are not there to prop them up when they droop, they might be looking elsewhere.

go back to the municipality and tell them you want to actually see the cats they have. If the cat is in a cage and unhappy, it is very hard to get a reading on a microchip through a cage! Put up poster again in your area. Knock on all doors and ask people to let you look in their gardens. Do the late at night listen, ask all maids, gardeners to pass the word. He is probably very close, he might be in someones house having tuna. Send the picture to all vets. There is a list on here. You can get the tube tops for under things at most specialty lingerie shops, they have lace edging etc and do the job. :) Now if you are going to wear tube tops alone, not the lingerie ones, please wear a STRAPLESS bra!!! bra straps on display under anything is so very tacky...wear the right bra for the garment :) (especially the black bra under the white t-strap top.....tacky tacky tacky lol oh, since I seem to be on a roll here....look in the mirror and if your tummy is not fat free and you have rolls, forget the tube top unless you wear a shirt that fits over top.....tacky <em>edited by SueB on 09/03/2012</em>

You have to tell your husbands how you feel. Not that they are not paying any attention or overworking etc, but how it makes you feel and keep it to how it makes you feel and not go off to make it their fault and play the blame game. That is not productive. ie, when you come home from work and continue to use the computer and call people all evening, it makes me feel as if you do not want me round and that makes me feel sad and apart from you...etc.... Tell him it would be wonderful if he would participate and wait until after dinner to take 1 hour to do his work, then you both will have the rest of the evening together. He might also try and come home early a couple of nights a week so you can have family time and then 1 night just for the both of you and arrange a sitter to go to dinner, or a walk or a coffee but outside of the house :)...anyway, it is tough, especially when they get into a habit but, if you tell him how you 'feel' he might listen, just keep it to how you 'feel'and no blaming :) just my thoughts :)

Women wear tights under skirts dresses but usually not under pants. Nylons are not warm. Now, if the guys are wearing them under pants to keep warm nylons will not do it, but for those men who like the feel of womans underwear/tights it can now give them an excuse to admit to wearing them. Personally, a guy wearing black control top pantyhose would be a major turnoff for me the hey, might be something else for someone else. Now, if the guys started wearing skirts to show off the tights, that would finish me off thanks very much. We all roll different ways but, for me, the tights do not work!!!!

I think it would be an excellent idea for him to get a labour lawyer pdq! and let his company know that he will not take it laying down. He can take a few days off for sick leave, get a doctors note then he can get alot done. Now if anyone here knows of a good labour lawyer, it would be a good time to put the name and number here.

Hi, I think you've made the correct decision to 'foster' rather than 'adopt' - I did the latter with a new-born kitten around a year ago and was subsequently advised that I wouldn't get any assistance against vet costs (mainly neutering) as I was effectively now the owner. I had a friend that long term fostering is the way to go to receive continued support. FF have Foster Families in order to place Short Term hopefully a cat in need of a temporary home. FF has open days every month in order for the foster family to bring the foster cat in hopes it will adopted. The fosterers will bring the kitten/cat every month until it is adopted and FF pays for all medical bills etc. Now what you are suggesting byoung is more like 'rent a cat' so, you get a cat to foster but keep it with you with no intention of giving it up, having FF pay medical bills and you give it back when you leave? do I have that correct? If you get the cat as a small kitten, that is the optimim time for adoption and pretty much guaranteed a wonderful family. As the kitten gets older it gets harder to place. So, if you have kept a kitten as a 'rent a kitten' then find out FF will now, after a year, consider it yours and stop paying medical bills, I would think that would be fair, but....not if you are planning on giving the cat to someone else when you leave. That is dishonest :( Long term fostering one cat that is adoptable is doing a disservice to the poor cat who could have had a family who would have taken it with them. Chocs01, most FF cats are neutered if they are old enough. The ones that are fostered, are often too young. They can go to their new home with all shots etc but not neutering if they have not reached at least 4 months.

whoever you decide to use, make sure they have experience training children. Children are still growing and their bones have not set yet. You son would need to have fun doing what he is doing and that needs a trainer who can provide that for a 13 yr old....so, make sure your trainer is knowledgeable about childhood weight control and not just adults as you don't train them the same.

I was under the impression Canadians and Americans spoke English. Have we missed something and we do not speak English but another language altogether?? Maybe you are referring to a BRITISH. Accent. Those of us in the colonies would refer to the varied dialect of the British isles as British and not English. Sorry if we have got that wrong? <em>edited by SueB on 06/03/2012</em>

Hi Kat999 :). You should receive an information booklet on all you should know about fostering, how to introduce them to the household, food, other animals etc.... Have you not received one yet? http://www.felinefriendsdubai.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=44:taking-home-a-new-cat&catid=8:cat-care&Itemid=44 This is some info from their site that is helpful. The biggest thing is to remember the introduction is very important. For most cats, giving them too much space can be terrifying for them as it is not familiar and they have nowhere to hide. A room to themselves for the first week is best so they have a safe place to go :) Remember to keep the doors closed to outside. You do not want them getting out and getting lost. Anyway, read the link....good luck :) enjoy your temporary fur babies :) <em>edited by SueB on 06/03/2012</em>

You will find that the people who turn their backs on the DEC's will be the first in line for a DEC position with another airline. Do not let it get to you because at the end of the day, DEC's have the experience and hours on type. So, kiddo, good luck to your husband in the interview process! :)

You can take your "cheap and nasty" Ikea furniture with you if you like. I doubt it will fall apart as in our early and younger days, that is what we had and moved it quite a few times. Sold it in good "together'condition lol... The houses in Canada vary in room size just like here. If you have no idea where you will be living then you might ere on the side of caution and not bring the huge pieces but only the pieces you love. We do have quite nice furniture in Canada. Now about the wood that will dry and split. It wont do this if taken care of and kept humidifyied in winter. Easy to do as again, at home, we had solit wood furniture and it never split and alot of it was antique. You will be hard pressed to find a decent price for solid wood furniture so if you have pieces you love, bring them. Do not bring electrical. They will not work. Hoped that helped :) it would be easy for you to make a decision if you actually had a residence and room sizes :)
