Thank you sandfly. I rescued him, we love him very much. Until a year a go we lived in a villa but had to move to dubai and we are now in an apartment. He is very active and playful, he plays fetch! He needs outside space, we have even been looking at new accommodation to suit him but can not guarantee we will get the space we need when we come to move. I just worry something would happen, which would be accidental. I thought possibly a family might be best for him, a family who could love him as we [u'>do. I do not see him as disposable at all. I have a 17 year old cat who lives with my parents[/u'>. I had no way of foreseeing the future and circumstances. [u'>I think some of the responses have been a dig at me with no real consideration of theOP which was concerning the wellbeing of both cat and baby.[/u'> edited by Mau10 on 19/01/2013 When I asked what strategies you had employed to help the situation you did not reply other than reiterating the fact that you felt it better to rehome the cat. Therefore, people naturally assume that you have done nothing leading to the thought that the cat is disposable. This is not helped by the statement above about your other cat despite it being with your parents: it is not with you. Just because people suggest other things to help the situation that does not mean they are having a dig at you. If you think that, then may I suggest that you get a thicker skin before posting a topic about rehoming a cat for no good reason. There are many animal lover in Dubai who get a bit annoyed when this sort of thing happens!

Getting rid of in the context I was using means send away/removing. Therefore, that is what you are doing, whether or not it is to a nice family with a garden. The cat is being removed from your family. Have you spoken to your vet to see if there is a suggestion that they have? I think it is a shame for not only the cat, but also your child.

No he hasn't but he could misinterpret a tug on the tail as aggressive behaviour and swipe at her, nota potential risk I am willing to take. Would you? Yes I would try to integrate them both before getting rid of the cat, particularly as there is no indication that the cat is aggressive. What you will need to do is have an introduction program which will take time and patience. The biggest danger from a cat is it sitting in the cot with the baby, but this is easy to remedy - don't let the cat in the bedroom.

What strategies have you tried in order to try to resolve the situation? I'm not putting my daughter at any risk. He would be great with older children. What risk? You've not indicated that the cat has done anything to harm the baby - you only said the baby is begining to pull the tail. No mention of the cat retaliating in any way, shape or form. I'm sure there are many people who have bought a baby into a home where there have been cats already without incident.

We bought 1 new car and 1 used car, both cash. I don't like owing money. The new car for DH as he drives lots for his job and we wanted something which in theory should be more reliable. Th used car for me because I don't drive so much and a new car would be a waste of money.

I was once told by a baggage handler to use cable ties to lock suitcases as these are the least desirable for them to break into! Apparently, locks are really easy to pick and people don't notice before they take their luggage, but cable ties have to be broken to get into. Either way, don't put anything valuable in your cases!

At least I'm not the only one - had to change plans too. Been to the shops this morning and bought all the stuff for a roast. Everything will be open tomorrow any way so no problem. Maybe you could do a BBQ as an alternative to a roast - more relaxed and less stressful if you have to get the stuff in the morning!

Nippy after reading your story you should be proud of yourself. You have shown courage, strength and resilience: something he did not. You will need time to 'mourn' the relationships end, but after that celebrate that you are out of it. He does not sound like a 'man' who is deserving of you.

1) it depends on the item. You will need to compare using the rate calculator for the shipping cost. 2) they don't consolidate items, so they are sent as they arrive. 3) the SNS address is like a 'home' address. So they toy you buy is sent to the SNS address as if that is where you live and then SNS ship it from there. 4) my items have taken from 3-10 days from arriving at SNS. It will be busy now so best avoided until end january I guess. 5) generally stuff I can't get here. 6) you're welcome!

This sounds like a scam. Call your bank on your usual number now to find out if they did call. If they did not,you may have to freeze your accounts. Edited when I saw WGs reply. If they do give you a number, you still call the number you usually call. The one they give is likely fake. edited by summer breeze on 18/12/2012

He is so worried I skip the country too, and that I go back to the UK and scr*w him from there, Well if you did, quite frankly it sounds like he deserves it. Not wanting to upset you, but my first thought was like that of others - he's been playing away and may have a pregnancy issue! The only piece of advice that I feel qualified to give is speak to a lawyer ASAP. That way you will have definitive answers with regards to procedures out here and your options. If that does not fit in with his time line well tough. A divorce request with one weeks notice was probably not what you wanted either! Be strong, rule with your head and give yourself time to think what you want and what is best for you and your children. I suspect regardless of settlement you won't see a penny like the other 'family'. If it were me, I would not be waiting for him to call the shots. It sounds like he is desperate for which threre must be a reason......that plays into your hands.

the new tax rules apply from 6th April 2013, but if your UK property is let, all your family is in the UAE, you work for less than 20 days in the UK, you will retain non-resident status provided you spend less than 90 days in the UK. For those who don't work 35+ hours per week it's only 45 days.

@ Chewit - I am assuming that it will be related to worldwide income. So if you are classed as a UK resident, your UAE earnings will become taxable. At least they don't look like they are going as far as the IRS in the States! @ herecomesthesun - it will also get people who have business meetings/working days in the UK as well, especially if they holiday there as well.

SM - I'm not a tax expert, but I think they are toughening the laws regarding non-residents. Under current legislation you are classed as non-resident if you average fewer than 91 days per tax year over a period of 4 years. But In the new article it says 45 days (if already a non-resident for 3+ years) and 10 days for new non-residents. With 8 week summer holidays this could be a problem for those who return 'home' for the holidays. And although the number of days is not the only factor, I would assume it does get more difficult IMHO. Who knows who they will go after? Let's face it Starbucks and other large companies get away with millions every year, but so many small fry get clobbered. Guess we'll have to wait til the tests are issued!

Being non domiciled means that you give up your UK passport - BIL and his wife have done this and now live on Sark in the Channel Islands. I believe that their passports are issued by the Guernsey Government but are recognised as UK passports but I can't be sure. I guess they are as they actually travel to France occasionally . You do not have to give to give up your passport to be considered non-domiciled. from what I have read you can avoid paying tax on worldwide earnings by having a domicile of choice. There are also people who have UK passports whose domicile of origin is not within the UK. http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/cnr/hmrc6.pdf 4.3.2 Domicile of choice You have a legal capacity to acquire a new domicile at the age of 16 (earlier in Scotland). Broadly, to acquire a domicile of choice, you must leave your current country of domicile and settle in another country. Or, if you are already living in a country other than that of your domicile, you will acquire a domicile of choice there if you intend to remain permanently or indefinitely. In either case you need to provide strong evidence that you intend to live there permanently or indefinitely. The following factors will be relevant, though this list is not exhaustive. • Your intentions. • Your permanent residence. • Your business interests. • Your social and family interests. • Your ownership of property. • The form of any will that you have made. There are flow charts which help you to decide what you think you may be. But domicile is covered by law so you need to get advice. However, the law, as far as I am aware, does not state that you have to give up your passport. In fact it clearly states that domicile, residency and nationality are different things. edited by summer breeze on 13/12/2012

Take the Al Wasl Road all the waydown to the Iranian hospital. At the Iranian hospital take a right at traffic lights signposted Satwa. About 100-150 metres along that road, take the first left hand turn and Le Cadre is immediately on your left hand side. right opposite the West Zone supermarket.

the few that are there (K9, RAK, SCADS) are very picky and choosy with potential families but their rates in finding forever homes is higher in numbers plus they work with their dogs and not just pawn them off... edited by ecochic on 07/12/2012 From my personal experience I disagree TO A POINT with this statement. I got my dog from one of these mentioned. I was asked a couple of questions and after a brief introduction my dog was bundled into my car and we drove off into the sunset. Now I know these are voluntary organisations, but if I went to say the RPCA in the UK I would have a home inspection, be interrogated like its the Spanish Inquesition etc. Perhaps instead of moaning about how bad things are here on EW, start a campaign to legislate the adoption process to help these animals out.

Seriously some of the dogs i have seen need to go to heaven, . Why? What have they done wrong? Surely it's humans that have no doubt had a rather large hand in whatever it is and so shouldn't you say the same for them? No doubt some people would have said the same about my boy before he came to us as he had behavioural issues. With a loving, understanding home and huge does of TLC he is totally gorgeous and cute as a button. Eta - whilst waiting to find your fur-ever friend, maybe you could look at fostering.
