Just to add to what has been said below, maids are a good way to find pets. A friend of mine lost her cat. She put up posters all around her neighbourhood with a picture of kitty and reward in big writting. Within a few hours kitty was returned by one of the maids who found it trapped in her garden!

Not 100%, but I feel safer with me driving rather than a taxi driver. I prefer to be in control and feel that over the years I have learnt to anticipate and take into account the shear stupidity of others. In my experience, think of the most stupid thing a driver could do and inevitably it will be done.

Why bother what she thinks? Perhaps your husband is taking the higher ground and by ignoring it it gives her no room for what could potentially turn into nasty exchanges and/or accusations. Exes are exes for a reason.....perhaps her character flaw shown by being nasty to you is one of them....

How is your research going on? Anyone you liked yet? I rescued my dog from k9 friends and she is a part of our family for many years now. She perfectly fit us and we are very happy with her :) I'm having an appointment with K9 friends next week:). We have decided to look for a slightly older dog. Like. Also bumping for Polly....

Just report the couriers name to the company if you're unhappy with the service Don't know his name as never saw him... already complained but needed to vent just in case the poor man does turn up....

You may find a few Basenji crosses out here. They generally have a lovely temperament but are lively and like lots of playtime. They are affectionate, but can be a little scared of strangers. They don't grow too big, but really need a garden to run around in. They cope well in the heat as they originate from Egypt I believe. If adoption is a route for you try k9, darc, bark and purr etc. Polo club vets have an ad looking for a home for a small dog also. edited by summer breeze on 24/11/2012 Thanks I will check the Polo club vets :-). The Basenji seems to be quite active as they are hunting dogs I think..., so don't think they are for us either....I'm feel that I'm being quite difficult right now...after all its a commitment for at least 10 years, so it needs to feel 100 % right :-). Vera, you are right to be picky since there are too many pets returned to the rescue centres/dumped because they were not right for the family. Have you considered an older dog rather than a puppy? Older dogs tend to get forgotten about and subsequently can spend a very long time in kennels, but have many advantages over puppies! My boy was 2 when we got him - he's a Dubai special (ie not a clue what he's made up of). He started life with us as a foster dog, but he's a bit 'special' so we thought he'd be condemned to a life in kennels if returned, so we just adopted him. He then picked himself a friend - an 8 month old Basenji cross who is adorable. They both like 2 good walks a day and a couple of hours of play in the (large) garden. I think the amount of exercise is, as you probably know, more to do with the breed than the size. If going down the rescue route, the person who 'interviews' you will ask questions about your lifestyle and your requirements and steer you towards dogs that match that.

Why not be accepting of it and put the money to good use? Your son probably gets enough presents from you on day. So why not set up a bank account back home and get people to put money in it for your son that he an have access to at a certain point eg 17 or 18? That way he will have a good start to the next phase of his life. And if it's any consolation, my sister couldn't even be bothered to wish me a happy birthday either by email or on Facebook!

why not call one of the hospitals you are considering using and ask them? You may be lucky and they may accept it without being attested. I had mine attested before coming here to simplify anything I may have needed it for. Ive probably just assumed that you need it attested for anything so give it a try edited by summer breeze on 21/11/2012

Why bother? As long as you have an attested marriage certificate it should not be a problem. There are many women here who have a different surname to their husband and they have not had an issue as long as they produced the cert. I've kept my name - keeps him on his toes....

When I read the title I was expecting something along the lines of drivers who actually turn up when you phone and book a taxi. I knew I was expecting to much. I wonder if they will pay the inevitable speeding fines since most of the taxis I have been in like to drive at the speed of light and some even like to jump the odd red light...

Saffron is in fine dining which costs 315aed if you get it on their website although it does say 350 before you put it in your basket. Saffron buffet is 220aed each so if 5 of you are going you will save more than the book costs... I'm not sure about the family one as I don't have it, but I would imagine it would be the same as desert safaris are at least 200aed per adult (not sure as been many years since I did one).

My properties are in the home counties - far enough from London to be cheap(er) but close enough to commute. I have favoured 2 bed houses as these are generally taken by people just starting out, who don't have the money to get a mortgage but don't want to live at home yet has space for family growth! I have a friend who is a project manager for a construction company out here and he doesn't rate any of the projects really. They look so good when they are new, but very soon things start to fall apart and quite literally cracks start to appear. If I remember correctly, the concrete they use has a life span of 60years if mixed correctly. However, that may not be the case - there was a building whose car park recently collapsed.....who knows why. I assume for a 7 bed you are looking at 8 to 10million region. That is huge amounts to invest in a country with essentially a poor track record, both in terms of stability of housing market and build quality. It is tempting to buy as renting does seem like such a waste - I seriously thought about it myself as I got lucky here several years ago with buying. I have however decided against it.

Wasn't there a story a few years ago of expats who had a villa in The Lakes or somewhere similar who bought for around 1000000aed, property value increased to 5000000 (they had it on the market for that sort of value). It was then decided that a new road was being built or an existing one widened and the only got the original price back. Long time ago so don't remember the specifics. There are two things that bother me about the Dubai property market 1) the build quality here is appalling in general 2) rules change willy nilly here. One minute you can have a visa, next minute you can't. One minute you own the property, next minute someone wants to build where your home is.... Also, regards to UK. It depends on where your property is and what type of property you own. Two bed houses are apparently the best renters in a lot of areas. All my properties have achieved full rental income and have pretty much been occupied all the time I have been leasing. The rental income has in fact just gone up on one of the properties last week when a new tenant moved in. My rental yield varies from 6.21-9.72% PA

Taking a Stand I ask you to stand with me For both the injured and the lost I ask you to keep count with me Of all the wars and what they cost I ask you to be silent with me Quietly grateful for our lot As I expect you're as thankful as me For the health and life we've got I ask that you wish them well with me All those still risking their all And I ask that you remember with me The names of those that fall I expect that you are proud like me Of this great nation of ours too So enjoying all its freedoms like me Support those upholding them for you I hope that you are hopeful like me That we'll soon bring an end to wars So you'll have to stand no more with me And mourning families no different from yours 'Til then be thankful you can stand with me Thinking of those who now cannot For standing here today with me At least we show they're not forgot John Bailey © Copyright May 2011
