Hi Minegirl, I'm from the US and have a doctorate in clinical psychology. I'm a recent graduate, and my specialty is assessment and neuropsychology. I have worked primarily with adults and also have experience with children. Also, I provide therapy mostly for adults with depression, anxiety, and other issues. I am a bit concerned that psychology may not have as important a role there, as what we are accustomed to here. I haven't found much through internet search, with the exception of a posting for a female child psychologist at Dr. Aju's clinic. I thought I'd take a similar approach, trying to make contacts once I arrived. Another idea I had was to look for work in research through some of the universities in Education City. While I'd prefer clinical work, that might be a good option as it wouldn't require licensure etc. DH is leaving Sept. 30 and I will probably follow sometime in November. My email is . Please feel free to get in touch anytime. I hope everything goes well with your move and would love to meet up once I arrive. Little Spoon, thanks for the article! edited by sunflowers on 18/09/2012

Minegirl, Just curious if you ended up finding a position in Qatar? My background is in psychology too. Thanks!

Thanks so much for all the replies! DH is leaving this month and we will be following not too long thereafter. I'm definitely having a bit of cold feet, so it is nice and reassuring to know that there are some things to do outdoors. The kayaking and hunting for fish sounds especially fun.

I checked the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website for the US to see about recommended vaccines for people going to Qatar. They don't mention anything about the TB vaccine. So we will probably hold off on it when we move. Could someone please tell me if the TB vaccine is mandatory for babies born there, or do parents have a choice? Also, the CDC website did recommend a typhoid vaccine. Is that something people typically do? Thanks!!

Thanks so much for the information Nole! It is really helpful. I will definitely give them a call. If anybody else has recommendations for shipping companies from the US, I'd love to hear them also.

Thanks so much for your replies ladies!! Maite, I'll definitely send you an email. It's so nice to make a contact with someone already living there! Tina P, we don't have a date yet. My husband got the email a few weeks ago that he passed the selection process, so we should be getting the contract in a couple weeks. That'll have information on his fleet allocation and start date. I heard a rumor about there not being housing left anymore. That's really too bad :( From what I've seen on this message board, housing is a lot more expensive than what we're used to! Do you all have any idea of where you'd like to live yet? Good luck with your move!! Hope it all goes well. lalala, Thanks for the info!

We are seriously considering moving to Qatar from North Carolina in the U.S. My husband was recently offered a job as First Officer with Qatar Airways, and I was hoping to find wives of Qatar Airways pilots or women who work for the airline on this site. At this point, I'm trying to gather as much information as possible about what it would be like to live there and work there. I have an 18 month old daughter and hope to start trying for another soon, so probably would be a stay at home mom when we moved over there initially. Some questions I was hoping you all could help me answer: - Are you happy with your husbands' schedules? We are coming from a regional carrier in the U.S. so that is our point of comparison. -- Are you satisfied with the housing provided by the company? Do you feel that there is a sense of community in the compound? We would like to live in the company sponsored housing if available. -- Are you able to live on a First Officer's salary and also save money? Our primary reason to move to Doha would be to improve our finances and save money. I am having a hard time estimating the cost of living, and would like to get a sense of whether that is possible on their salary. Any help would be much appreciated. Hope there are some people connected with the airline on this site! Thanks in advance!! edited by sunflowers on 05/03/2012
