Hi, I can imagine what you are going through...I have been there as well. First of all, you should get a professional developmental assessment done for your child, just to be sure that there is nothing of major concern. It is better to mention the delay in the assessment form you have to submit to the school, so that they are aware of it. And if they do not accept your child, don't fret over it....your child deserves a place where he is welcome and accepted. And believe me, you will eventually find that place. we all want our children to have the best school, but sometimes these "flashy" and highly rated schools can have teachers with a lot of attitude...and your child might end up feeling ignored or "looked over".....so go with your instincts, and if a school does not give you good vibes, or the teachers seem cold and blunt, avoid that place for your kid. Even if it is very highly rated. Hope this helps you.

Thank you for showing your concern everyone. It really means a lot. My daughter was trying to hide this cyber bullying from me, since it started last week. And she did not know how to respond to it but I had noticed that she was more quiet and edgy at home, unlike herself. And then she didn't want me taking any action....so I asked her to handle it, and that I would help her in any way she wanted me to. So today she went online to this FB group and told them that she would report it to the police if it happened again and demanded an apology. And soon enough she got the apologies. I Just told her that if she was scared that she would not have any friends if she stood up for herself, then it would be better not to have friends like these...I can see the positive change in her already as some friends appreciated her writing this, and I feel it was a good decision to let her do it, rather than me reporting to the school or police. But let's see how this carries on, and I will keep you posted.

Thank you so much for all the replies and support. Unfortunately, the incident happened again today and now I am really fuming. But DD does not want me to do anything or to speak to anyone at all. She is concerned that she will not have any friends if I do. I explained to her that this is a crime punishable by law, but she said that she will speak to that friend by herself. All the friends on this online group are in the same school. It really hurts me to see her go thru this. But I don't want to make things more difficult for her either. So I told her that she has to stand up for herself, and confront this poster, and ask her to apologize on the same chatting site. I will update you further later on....it is so challenging to be a parent these days and every one of your opinion and support counts a lot. Thank you.

Hi S1W4Z, Can you please tell me something. When you mentioned that your LO is behind in social skills, can you please elaborate on that. What way is he behind compared to his peers? and what sort of complicated commands would he not understand? The reason I am asking is that I want to compare with my son, who has speech delay ( which is improving). Thanks in advance.

My son has a speech delay which is improving at a good pace after therapy. He is a September baby and will start FS1 in September. I mentioned the delay and the name of the therapist as well as his nursery in the form for his school assessment. In addition, on the day of assessment, I talked to the person in charge about the delay and explained that he does not have a learning impediment and that his social skills are very good. She appreciated my coming to talk with her very much and inquired and noted down his name. A few weeks later we got an acceptance email. This is one of the "outstanding" schools in Dubai. He will be one of the oldest in the class which I preferred, rather than him being the youngest. So go ahead and write about the speech delay and the therapist. They sometimes contact the therapist to ask about the child, although they did not in our case. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies, we r thinking of Horizon school for FS 1 and FS2 and then later shifting him to Gems WI. To keep him in the same nursery was another option, but DH thinks that he should go to a proper school, since he will be four year old next Sept. Sourskittleashnut, u said that WI is better, can u please comment in what aspects.

Hi all, Thank u for ur replies. I am on the waiting list for Kidsfirst. Have an assessment at another place this wed. @Kjt: so glad that a specialist replied to my post....my DS can easily follow two step commands and a few 3 step ones as well. What exactly are "sensory issues", and what other indicators are there besides toe walking (DS walks on flat feet for few steps before toe walking and puts feet down if asked to). @ohsofabmissv : Glad to know that ur LO is doing well. Being a mom, I know what u must've been thru at that time. Regards to all.

Thank u for ur replies...I have taken DS to two speech therapists and they have not given any diagnosis, they say to give the child therapy in the area that he requires. But I worry if the speech delay could b an indicator of some other issues which may surface later. Frazzled, I'm glad that ur DS has overcome the speech impediment, but looking back do u think there was some thing at age 3 that could've indicated the dyspraxia and sensory issues. My DS has begun to dress and undress with a little bit of help but walks on his tiptoes most of the time. Thank u.

Hello, just wanted u all to know that I took my son to the specialist pediatrician today, he thinks that it is just a speech delay and not autism. The difference he said was that my son understands what is said to him. He said never to compare kids, which was what I was doing....I started to cry over there. Thank u all for ur support when I needed it.....I pray for the kids and families affected by any sort of disorder....I know how u feel. Still will go for a second opinion after one week....and speech therPy will start soon too.

Hi, just wanted to tell my story, I had 3 attempts at ivf, failed at all of them, the last attempt nearly took my life as I got a DVT in my leg which is a condition when the blood becomes very thick and clots. The doc said I was lucky to b alive when I reached the hospital as it was very extensive. My husband said we would not go thru any therapy again and I lost all hope. But a few months later I became pregnant naturally! And now have a beautiful baby boy. I remember crying thru sooo many nights. Do not give up hope......u don't know what the future holds.

Thank u soo much AmyAus82 and DesertRose1958 for the posts, u don't know how much it means to me to b able to share my concerns. This is the first time I signed up and posted anything. Even though I don't know u all, but wish and pray for the best for u. Still waiting for the appointment but in my worried state I just walked into welcare yesterday, the pediatrician was out, but the specialist physician was free so I saw her as I needed to talk to someone. She said that she had seen autistic children before and my ds seemed to b on the milder side if affected at all. But she was not sure as she is not a specialist in this field. My heart and prayers go out to all the kids and their families who r affected by any sort of developmental disorder.....May God bless u.

Thank you for replying HotRice, u r right, I am very anxious....but really no one to talk to until the doc sees us. So hoping someone would say something. My son does point when using the ipad but will not point when I ask him to touch an animal he knows in the book....or point to a cat he sees. He does not respond to any of my questions as if he does not understand, but at other times he will sit when I ask him to or follow me when I ask him to watch tv....
