In regards to ICCA... I originally went to the school wanting to enroll in the amateur course, then was convinced by the lady Shaanaz (didnt know she was the owner of the school @ time)that I would not be getting the full experience unless I took the full time proffesional program. That wasnt the case and I felt I wasted the 30k dirhams that I could have donated to a good cause:( There are aprox 50 students in the school at one given time and its just too chaotic and difficult with such an occupancy. We had to share burners most of the time and there were students fighting literally over pots and pans... As for the instructors, I agree that they all come from proffessional experience in big hotel chains in India with the exception of one instructor who is from Kenya, not sure where his experience is from though. They were all good. Not so great on the international cuisine as I have taken courses abroad and they didnt compare. Although the instructors were fit for the job, it didnt seem like they were too happy with their jobs. And It may have been there long daily commute to and from Ajman, which is were they lived along with the international students. As a matter of fact, one day the pastry chef asked me to help him find a job. And as far as the big hotels hiring from the school... Once the students finish the program they each paid 30,000 dirhams for, the school then acts as a recruiting agency and gets them commis1 / 2 positions at local hotels / restaurants that pay 1800-2000 dirhams a month!... Yes maximum 2,000 dirhams a month... I felt really bad for the students in my class, as they were all under 25 and they paid 30K dirhams each to take the course, thinking they were going to be placed in positions where they were going to earn decent salaries. And then found out they would be earning 2k a month at max. OH! and not to mention that you spend 1 - 1 1/2 hours every morning and every afternoon cleaning! Yes cleaning dishes, mopping floors, wiping table tops, scrubbing burners, cleaning refrigerators, and dishwashing... I wish someone had told me all this before taking the full time class at ICCA, and therefore, Im sharing my personal experience. I have taken many cooking classes in and around Dubai. You may also want to check out Atelier de Chefs- I really enjoy their classes, very professional. Also, check with Bustan Rotana,(near airport) they have 1 class a month and they rotate the venues between, Benihana, Blue Elephant, Steak House, etc. Also for Vietnamese, there used to be a lady named Lan who taught Vietnamese cuisine from home, she was great. OP this is my opinion and first hand experience. Good Luck and Bon Apetite in finding the right class:)

Pattycake, would you happen to remember the gals name who did your hair? I have been looking for someone who knows how to do this properly too and have not had any luck... I called there today and the gal who answered the phone had no idea what I was talking about. Thanks again for your help.

Not sure if palm jumeirah is within your desired geographic area but, I believe the beach clubs on the shoreline offer memberships. Not sure about details but you may want to call Nakheel or go down there to get more info. Good luck

Well, coming from Beverly Hills, YES!!! It makes a huge difference... Obviously you haven't been. And this is my opinion...not saying it has to be anyone else's.

OH! I want to go home too:( I am feeling the same exact way and I have lived here for 7 years!!! So the truth is if you've come from somewhere better than Dubai... it never gets easier ... but you will learn to manage and make the best of your time. A wise woman once advised me that in order to stay sane, you should spend the whole summer abroad. And believe me it makes a big difference. I have made some great friends and I must say they have made life easier but, I still would leave in a nano second if it was solely my choice. I think its the combo of poor manners, a large class seperation and too many ethical differences amongst people that it makes hard to belong to such society, just my opinion of course. Just keep your eye on your end goal and try not to sweat the small stuff but if your coming from the west, thats sometimes too hard to do. So remind yourself of your families goal and remember you will eventually return, as we ( expats) are all visitors and must return to our home countries eventually (great for you & I:)

You may want to try Nora from Nora dance group. She is actually really good and I'm sure she would be great. However, she has been a bit late and unorganized in the past So I would recommend confirming and reconfirming if u decide to go with her. Don't have her no. But she gives classes at the yacht club in the marina. Good luck

Me too... So decided to go there for dinner tonight after hearing all the reviews. Sorry to report the whole experience was beloooooow satisfactory! For starters the restaurant was dirty! Kitchen looked run down and old. We ordered the recommended popular dishes like cashew chicken and Malaysian chicken curry, which was In fact Thai red curry, and haianese chicken rice, which was absolutely disgusting! edited by Super woman on 01/06/2011

You should consider a GIA certificate which is the highest and most reputable grading company in the entire industry. It stands for Gemological Institute of America. research them online and ask any reputable jeweler they will confirm. in regards to price, it depends but check the rappaport report for wholesale market rate that will give you an indication wether retail price is too high. Good luck.

It's very close to the new shopping little cluster near the new reem al bawadi, cannon , and a cute cafe called krumps. It's on that side of sheikh zayed road and just a few steps from these shops. It's a stand alone building. Hope that helps.

Interesting you say that... I've also had a series of 4 colonics and am feeling very gassy after meals... I have a follow up appt with the dr on Monday will ask and report back to you... I get colonics annually and have never had any problems, but I have never done more than a series of 2... Not sure if 3 or 4 is perhaps just too many????
