Thanks ladies. I went with jet lag repair as some of you suggested. Kept her up till regular nap and bedtime. She was out like a light but slept badly and woke early. But still better than 2 and 3 hours sleep. Trying to create as much normalcy as possible without being falsely cheery. When I am down and she asks I'm telling her the truth without over labouring the point. She went fairly happily to school this morning with her dad. Lets see how the rest of the day goes. Thanks for the messages of help for me too... hugs back. So far haven't really had time to deal with it seeing as operations of life back has taken over. I worry so about my mum constantly but haven't had a chance to think of much else.

Try bepanthen ointment. You get it at most supermarkets and pharmacies. Wash the area with water, pat dry thoroughly and put the cream directly over. Works great in a couple of days. I'd say do it after each feed to keep clean and dry. For the dry skin cut out the soap and try the stelatopia bath oil thing. It helps. Or just wash in plain water.

I have 2 words for you - scrub and toner. My skin is fairly similar to what you describe. GINORMOUS pores! Ive been scrubbing with a gentle scrub 3 times a week and using a toner twice a day. Both meant for combination skin/purifying pores. Thats the only stuff I've changed and its made a huge difference to my skin. Maybe start with 1 scrub a week and work up to suit your skin so you dont over irritate all of a sudden. Keep at it and you'll see a difference in a few weeks. Other than that I use a moisturizer thats oil free and thoroughly clean my face at the end of the day. Also get a facial to purify skin as often as you can afford it.

Snoopy, I could've written this exact post and the one about sleep a few months ago. My 21 month old still doesn't sleep every day through, and eats very little. However things are tons better than they've been for the last 8-9 months. I'm not sure if your LO always was a picky eater and poor sleeper, but mine was a refluxer, on meds for the first few months of her life and barely every slept through the night except in the early months. I know you've heard this before but it does happen when it happens. The main thing that helped us though was seeing a holistic natural medicine doctor and we found that she had a mild milk allergy. We switched her to soy and she takes chamomillia (homeopathic) for her tummy and teething troubles. The difference is dramatic. She eats more regularly, though still very little (I figure its like grown ups diff appetites for diff folks) and sleep for 8-10 hours a fair few nights. She still needs us to help her get to sleep and calls for us when she wakes but ill take that over 3-4 night wake ups, early rising and all day crankiness! We actually signed up for a sleep coach (I'm in Canada now) with gentle methods and haven't got around to using the program because stuff has been going on with us. So all of this was without any assistance otherwise. It was the sleep coach though who noticed the patterns indicating milk allergy. I don't know if this would apply to your LO but I thought I'd share so you can think about it. The second thing I'd say is consider keeping 2 naps as long as possible even if it makes days a bit longer and is a pain getting them down. Mine was a star napper till I switched at 15/16 months and since then became a nightmare most times napping half hour unless I lay with her. It changed at about 18 months. Good luck! Feel free to ask me any more questions, coz trust me I've tried EVERYTHING.

At 21 months I doubt your daughter will fit in a bassinet, even if she is under the 11kgs, she has to fit in length wise. If the flight is empty and there is a seat, the crew will not bother you about bringing on the car seat. Although if the flights empty, she'd be a lot more comfortable laying on the flat bed 380 seat. And you wouldn't have to bother carrying a carseat and a child off the aircraft. I find an Ergo baby carrier invaluable for getting off the plane, as toddlers tend to collapse on landing (after so many hours awake) and they are really heavy with bags. I would move to a K seat so she is trapped in beside you (mine curled up in the footrest and I blocked the light out with a tent made with a blanket over the top) or hope to get what Emirates calls a sweetheart seat (E or F) and hope the seat beside you is empty. 21J is near the aisle and has people walking past from the bar all the time, which kept my LO awake. Also don't travel in a seat in row 21+ as the closer you are to the bar, the noisier and brighter it can get. Good luck :) Thanks a ton flydiver! Didn't get what you said at first but went and looked at the flight seat chart and it makes total sense! Booked 9E. The only other available window one was 25K which is much too close to the bar which under other circumstances would've been a plus. Sigh! Im guessing none of that for me on this trip :)! The car seat wasn't so much for her to sleep in as to restrain her while she sits - remind her of car rides and keep her quiet with books/videos for short times. Got a back pack for the seat. Will give it a shot and at worst gate check it they refuse. Thanks again ladies.

Thanks a ton ladies. This is all great. I know I'm stressed out with the long flight alone with her for the first time and worrying about my dad. Must find way to relax! The flight leaves here at night, past her bedtime so lets see what happens. Going to take some duct tape with me and tape blanket across and slightly over the seat to hopefully prevent her from seeing goings on! The last time i noticed she freaked out each time we tried to get her to sleep and seemed distracted otherwise. So play it is if thats what works. Just gets awfully worked up if shes sleepy and tired. Like mama :D 1. Does anyone know if theres a chance of taking the car seat on board without the booked seat? Emirates policy does say its allowed if you have a seat but doesn't expressly say no otherwise. So wondering if anyones gotten away with it because the flights seem empty according to the call centre. Only concerned really for the second, economy leg because she just wont sit by herself that far away now. Not in a strange place. 2. Has anyone tried any natural sleep aids. Tried antihistamine and she seems to be one of the 1% that gets hyperactive because of it!

My 21 month old still doesnt consistently sleep though the night and has only recently started taking decent nap (i clutch wood as i say this). Till recently the only way she'd go back to sleep was the bottle and coming into bed with us. I did the watering down but had no idea how to go from that to nothing. Finally my husband too over and one night said we'll give her a sippy if she wakes (the kind you can tilt back thats no spill - not straw). Gave it to her, she took a few sips and was off to sleep. Since then when she wakes she asks for water. She still wants milk when she's sick etc but goes back to not wanting it. My theory is that its just luck of the draw with baby sleep. I've tried lots of stuff. The one misktake i think i make though was switching to one nap too early. I did it because she was pushing each nap back and the days were logn for her and me. But if i'd gotten though an extra couple of months i think she'd have dont better. As it was, she took one bad afternoon nap and then the nights were bad too. Not sure if that helps at all but i switched at around 15 months. Wouldve waited till 17 or 18 if i could do over.

Kaba, I feel your pain. My daughter has had a cold and cough for over 6 weeks! A lot of the remedies are already on here from others. What I would add if you're open to it is homeopathy. When I was in dubai, we saw a homeopathic practitioner (not there anymore but I'm sure there are several others). He'd give my daughter meds that would help bring up the phlegm. At this age they can't get it out so throwing it up is the only way besides leaky noses. I now live in Canada and there are a couple of OTC options for colds here like Coryzalia and Homeocan kids. But not sure if you can get those there now. Good luck.

Thanks ladies. I think I will keep putting her to bed in hers. It's a bit hit or miss at nights on how long she'll stay asleep there. Some nights it's longer so def not so bad. Not sure i can be organized enough to put her to bed in ours and have everything on hand that we need elsewhere. Seeing as she's quite clingy in the day, I often only get to do stuff like clean up and wash my hair etc only at night! As for the day naps... For the moment that's what I'm doing kiwispiers... Really would be nice to be able to get some work done and some alone time. Tried our room a few times with pillows and monitor etc. she slept great for a cpl days then its back to waking up every sleep cycle. Oh well!

Yay! 1. Video monitor (got the angel care and never really used the sensor past a couple of weeks plus had issues with the reception since I was in an old villa.) despite all that I'd say it was a ++++. And now that I'm in a place where reception is not an issue its perfect. We hear a lot of noises and some disturb her having a video monitor prevents us from rushing in each time. 2. Bouncer. She didn't like it the first couple of times but once she did, she's sit in it happily. 3. Oddly enough, the bumbo. Mine wasn't a tummy time baby she hated it. And liked to be a part of the action so this worked perfectly. Along with one of those exersaucer jumperoo type things in the later months. Nay :( 1. Didn't get much use out of her changing station and we got an expensive pottery barn one. Could've done fine without. We had a high bed and a table downstairs that we used instead. 2. Expensive Moses basket - too little use and no resale value 3. Random baby toys. They don't need anything till about 4 months.

I put one of her folded blankets under her sheet to create a smaller raised area. Then I put a heavy-ish bolster (long cushion) on each side. She was 3 months and had reflux so I found this helped her and created a cosy space within (got the idea from a reflux positioner to prevent babies from sliding down when you raise the head of the bed). She didn't turn or move at that stage so I found it similar to a bumper. Some people aren't comfortable about having anything in bed with baby tho.

I went to real Pilates in the later months and for a couple of sessions after my c section before going to regular Pilates class. It is a bit intense but great. For yoga towards the very end, I had a lady who came home, called Ruati, from lifestyle yoga. She was awesome. Wasn't able to get bookings easily at zen yoga btw. And exhale was too far for me to go regularly though I've been to a couple of regular classes.

Hey Mmmmm most of what you've said, as other posters have confirmed, sounds perfectly normal. Just wanted to say though that the grunting could be of concern depending on how loud and long. All babies make little noises while they sleep. Some are even quite loud. I'd ignored mine when she grunted. It eventually got quite loud and she squirmed and cried a lot. Told my doc about this and a few other symptoms and it turned out it was silent reflux and she eventually had to go on meds. Don't mean to frighten you just letting you know it is one of the symptoms doctors look out for because they rarely run all the invasive tests on an infant to diagnose reflux and its often spotted based on your description of symptoms. About your other question, my LC said to feed her on one till empty and then put her on the other if she was still rooting. It's to do with the hind milk being higher in fat so they need to that which may not happen if the baby is switched every 10-15 mins. Hope that helps.

I put most things on there. We'd already done the big tickets like pram, furniture etc but besides that everything from car seat to onesies went on there. Made an excel sheet with the item, store and price and gave it to my sister who was organizing my shower. She sent it around as people asked (not unless they asked tho). Some of them were individual gifts and some were gifts from a few people combined that's why I put even the more expensive ones on there. My sister kept the list updated. And what was left on there after the shower, we bought.

Try prune juice. The way I do it is to soak a few pitted prunes in boiling water. Or simmer for a while. Leave in water overnight. Strain and serve. Find it lighter and less gloppy than the stuff in supermarkets. Works in a couple of days.

It's usually available at Spinneys in umm Suqeim. And in the mall on beach road - Jumeirah plaza I think, opposite village mall. It's the one with prime medical centre in it. Theres a store called emirates gourmet. They usually have the rooster brand. Haven't been there in 3 months coz I don't live there anymore but I've always found it there. And they also have loads of other gorgeous stuff so it's never a trip wasted. :D Ok...now this is turning into an obsession....went to MCC but did not find the "rooster" sriracha sauce...it was another brand ! Thanks chi2dxb. Catawba...thanks for the offer...I might just take you up on that. My last try is 1004 Mart. I show the people at the stores pictures of the sauce I want on my phone and they all just say out of stock or short ! Momof3 ...I was also thinking of using panko crumbs as it comes out really crunchy and soaks up more sauce. Oh well tomorrows another day .....I will find it !

Thanks a ton lovely people. Feels so good that someone gets it and has sensible suggestions. Feeling a little bit better to be honest. A lot has to do with acceptance. And I think I've begun to accept that somewhere between now and when she's 18 this will have to fix itself. :D Not so concerned about the eating. I have literally tried a ton of things and have now just started putting whatever we eat out for her and she 'eats' with us. Mum says I was a lousy eater till nearly 4 and now I'm a giant foodie so I guess it works out. She will taste most things. Just wont eat any significant quantity of anything! Sleep wise we've introduced some stuffed toys. Of course she's picked the largest 2 so now it's a real houseful in our comfy for 2 queen bed!! Also having a toddler/kids bed delivered. Will try that and make a big deal and see if she likes it better. If not its there for later when she's ready. Realised she really does dislike her crib so hopefully this will help. Learning to do things like cook in a slow cooker and hold her while I stir things in a pot and play peek a boo while I go to answer the door downstairs etc. and she's still hanging on to my hair so anti breakage shampoo it is for the minute :) Thanks again ladies! Really helps to have a sounding board. DC will look into the HV options here. Think there are some. Just not sure what so must investigate.

Thanks a ton for the responses ladies! Will try the suggestions. Kiwi: She's on formula. Tried switching to cows milk and she got dreadful constipation (real trouble getting it out) so switched back. Doing a gradual mix to see what she'll tolerate. She's trying to talk yes, good point - remember reading about the frustration somewhere, she babbles a lot and says a few works. I get a nap in when I can. Not that bad on the sleep. She does sleep better than she ever has when she sleeps with us. So barring the hair pulling I do get my rest. Thank god! Feeling claustrophobic and emotionally drained I suppose. Thinking of sending her to a Montessori playschoool a few days a week in a month or so to get her some social interaction and me some alone time.

Yes I had it as well. Killed me! Went to see Lauren from the Dubai Osteopathic centre on wasl road. She really helped with the sessions. Depends on the the individual degree but in my case (not to scare you) it went on beyond the birth and she had to work with me after as well. But during, the sessions with her and te pelvic floor exercises that the physio gave me really cut my pain by about 75%

Thanks ladies! Great tips. She's regular normally. It's just when I tried to take her off formula and put her on 'normal people milk'. The last time it was actually water I'd soaked prunes in overnight that I fed her a couple times till she finally got back on track. Prunes are great! Will bear these in mind for when I do finally make the full switch.

Thanks a ton kiwi... Read about the lactase drops but thought they were only for age 2 onwards. Will check again. Also excellent point about the reflux. She had infant reflux and had to go on medication from about 4 weeks to 4 months. Hasn't seemed to bother her since but then it wast the silent type and maybe its back. She does seem quite uncomfortable at night and cries a fair bit. Still doesn't sleep through. I just always thought it was the teeth. Will have her doctor take a look at her next appointment next week. Thank you again!

OK, here’s my situation. My Mommy has had me for almost 7 months. The first few months were great – I cried, she picked me up and fed me, anytime, day or night. Then something happened. Over the last few weeks, she has been trying to STTN (sleep through the night). At first, I thought it was just a phase, but it is only getting worse. I’ve talked to other babies, and it seems like it’s pretty common after Mommies have had us for around 6 months. Here’s the thing: these Mommies don’t really need to sleep. It’s just a habit. Many of them have had some 30 years to sleep–they just don’t need it anymore. So I am implementing a plan. I call it the Crybaby Shuffle. It goes like this: Night 1–cry every 3 hours until you get fed. I know, it’s hard. It’s hard to see your Mommy upset over your crying. Just keep reminding yourself, it’s for her own good. Night 2–cry every 2 hours until you get fed. Night 3–every hour. Most Mommies will start to respond more quickly after about 3 nights. Some Mommies are more alert, and may resist the change longer. These Mommies may stand in your doorway for hours, shhhh-ing. Don’t give in. I cannot stress this enough: CONSISTENCY IS KEY!! If you let her STTN (sleep through the night), just once, she will expect it every night. I KNOW IT’S HARD! But she really doesn’t need the sleep, she’s just resisting the change. If you have an especially alert Mommy, you can stop crying for about 10 minutes, just long enough for her to go back to bed and start to fall asleep. Then cry again. It WILL eventually work. My Mommy once stayed awake for 10 hours straight, so I know she can do it. Last night, I cried every hour. You just have to decide to stick to it and just go for it. BE CONSISTENT! I cried for any reason I could come up with. My sleep sack tickled my foot. I felt a wrinkle under the sheet. My mobile made a shadow on the wall. I burped, and it tasted like pears. I hadn’t eaten pears since lunch, what’s up with that? The cat said “meow”. I should know. My Mommy reminds me of this about 20 times a day. LOL. Once I cried just because I liked how it sounded when it echoed on the monitor in the other room. Too hot, too cold, just right–doesn’t matter! Keep crying!! It took awhile, but it worked. She fed me at 4am. Tomorrow night, my goal is 3:30am. You need to slowly shorten the interval between feedings in order to reset your Mommies’ internal clocks. Sometimes my Mommy will call for reinforcements by sending in Daddy. Don’t worry Daddies are not set up for not needing sleep the way Mommies are. They can only handle a few pats and shhing before they declare defeat and send in the Mommy. Also, be wary of the sleep sheep with rain noises. I like to give Mommy false hope that listening to the rain puts me to sleep sometimes I pretend to close my eyes and be asleep and then wait until I know Mommy is settling back to sleep to spring a surprise cry attack. If she doesn’t get to me fast enough I follow up with my fake cough and gag noise that always has her running to the crib. At some point I am positive she will start to realize that she really doesn’t really need sleep. P.S. Don’t let those rubber things fool you, no matter how long you suck on them, no milk will come out. Trust me. - Source Unknown Funniest thing I have read in a long time!!! :D

I've actually had very good experiences upgrading on several occasions (knocks wood). The thing is that summer is usually the worst time to try for miles tickets or upgrades (besides christmas). Firstly, the seats are hard to find (allocations like loranaji said) and the rewards themselves cost more - in miles. You either need to book well in advance (I'm talking months) if you want these times, or choose different times. The process I use is exactly what lec299 describes - check availability first then book where flexibility allows it. Infant fares - cash or miles is 10% of adult fare paid by accompanying adult. For the cost you get right of passage, baggage allowance and a bassinet (subject to availability). And of course they stock things like milk and baby essentials though I've never taken a chance and not taken my own :). Also bear in mind there are some restrictions on usage of miles. For instance, you need to have gotten your miles with a certain percentage in actual flights on Emirates for they year (versus collected them as rewards on credit cards). I think, I could be wrong, there is also a cap on how many you can use in a year.

Yes.. I've tried it for my baby. She was about 2.5 monhts at the time. On medication and really very uncomfortable. I went to see Lauren at Dubai Osteopathy on Al Wasl. She's amazing! Overall I feel it helped, yes. You don't see any relief immediately unlike osteopathy for aches and pains. We did 3 sessions. At the end of the first session she was actually quite restless but I still took her to the second. Lauren was great. She explained that in the beginning there is likely to some discomfort because we are realigning the cranium (which is off for some reason and that's the principle cranial osteopathy works on - perhaps thats oversimplifying it but helped me understand.) After the 3 sessions I felt she was loads better. I can't say for sure if it was the osteopathy or the meds she was taking or a combination. I do believe it helped though, because she was taking the meds for over a month when I went, and I saw results after. What I'd say is theres no harm trying it. No negative side effects. Very gentle (Lauren demonstrated on my hands). Almost like a mini scalp massage. My daughter didn't even whimper through it - she lay there and stared at Lauren which was surprising to me because she was a very restless baby till then primarily because of the reflux. If your insurance covers it, definitely try. If not maybe weigh the benefits because its not cheap. Costs the same as an average paed appointment.

When I was pregnant I went a bit nuts and got a ton of baby books because i had no idea what my philosophy was or anything else really. So in addition to the ones named I got 2 others that i found useful. One was Dr Sears - Baby Book and one was the American Association of Paediatrics one from newborn to 5 years. These helped with basics more that anything else.... things like what temperature is a fever, first aid, what to do for a rash, recognizing things like minor issues so I didn't become a paranoid person that called the doctor if she looked left instead of right :D. Also the Tracey Hogg bigger book - Baby Whisperer solves all your problems (?) is a very useful if you're looking for help with sleeping feeding etc. Much more detailed. Dr Sears loads better for breastfeeding help. Not sure i've helped at all! Sorry!

Ninasimone.... I have a few ACON sticks. 6-7 I think. Not terribly expensive but worked for me :D. You can have them (for free, just to be clear). Might also have a preg test or two that you're welcome to - for luck! Let me know if you're interested and I can email you if you give me your address.

We got our first outrageous quote from Leader today. 14,000dhs for 10 cubic metres. The only furniture we're sending is a baby cot which comes apart to pack flat. Argh! Answered on the other moving to Canada thread as well... We're in the process of working out who we're using to ship to Toronto. Got quotes from Crown, Allied Pickfords, Santa Fe, Move One and DASA. The costs range from AED 25,000-36,000. All except one actually fell between 25-28. This is for a full container since we're moving a fair amount. The had all indicated they do partial containers as well. We're thinking of going with Move One who in addition to being one of the 2 most reasonable has shown a great deal of professionalism and responsiveness so far, as well as seems to have everything systemised. So they're quite quick. A friend of ours had her stuff shipped with them (through work) and was happy as well. The lady we're dealing with there is called Heather Finlayson. Our next choice based on interaction so far is Santa Fe. Louisa Priestly. Hope that helps.

I had a very nice one at Lime Spa at Desert Palm. And a couple of nice treatments (including a massage) at Sens Asia Spa. This was about a year ago give or take a little. SensAsia is usually a safe bet for most things. Enjoy!

We got the studio one from before. It was good. Nice shoot, nothing spectacular in terms of capturing expressions or great poses, but good. The quality of final product was very good. Great service. They gave us what the deal said. If you wanted more, they are very expensive without the deal so its best to have a plan when you go into a viewing if you don't want to be tempted into buying more. They didn't hard sell though to be fair. I have since found a few photographers on here that give you a location shoot for a good deal with 20 or so digital files, which suits us better, so i plan to do one of those next time around. You'll find details if you search for family/baby shoot/photograhy. Not sorry I used Barton though. Have fun.
