Got mine from the Organic Food and Coffee Shop in Dubai Mall I got mine there too. I have about 10 individually wrapped unopened tea bags left still, if you want them. Im near safa let me know and i'll post my email if you want them. They're not the best tasting in case you've not had them before. I couldn't do more than one a day :) Ooops I got mine at Organics in the Greens (Emaar Business Park) edited by susandiaz on 28/12/2011

Ditto on the Gaviscon/Maalox etc. If you find the liquid yucky (like I did), its available in tablet form too that you can chew (though the liquid seems to work quicker). Tablets are either Gaviscon or Rennie. I was given the green signal on both these by my gyn and GP. Post month 3, because of my severe GERD I was also given Nexium as needed but thats something to discuss with your doctor. Feel better!

I second muurtje, we HATE our LG dishwasher and really regret not spending the extra to get something decent like the Siemens I really wanted ;-) Oh well, one less item to take with us when we leave! I agree with M and P. Hate our LG dishwasher (maybe the newer ones are worse??). We've had ours for 6 months and its fine to remove grease etc, but leaves things like tea stains on cups and other really basic stuff. Glasses always have stains. Nothings dirty proper. Just not shiny clean either. We had an Ariston one for years before this. It came with the apartment. I was great. Washed everything clean till it sparkled. Even washed out some of my pretty oven stained pans from before the dishwasher days :) Must add that I've loved all our other LG appliances. And we have them all! edited by susandiaz on 26/12/2011

For combination feeding, the tommee tipee ones are quite highly recommended. I used them for the first little while but then my daughter developed reflux and I found the dr browns ones worked great so we switched (though TT have anti colic ones too). We went with the steam sterilizer because they were less fiddly. More expensive sure but easy to use, especially if like us you have a medium sized microwave. Also it makes sense to get a sterilizer like the AVENT which fits most bottles (though the large browns bottles only fit if I take the top tray off. still very workable) We got a moses basket and are quite happy we did. Baby slept in our room with us. In the very early days we used the bassinet from the pram (chameleon also) downstairs while we used the basket upstairs. Comparable thickness of mattress. but for some reason baby didn't like it beyond a few days. We moved her to her bed at 3 months.

Thank you! All this help is making me teary eyed. No help that I'm mad at myself and hormonal. Great tips on the gifts, thanks all. Might go the voucher way to be honest, though its a bit impersonal, its what I love receiving :). Will get my husband to do a Spinneys run. And maybe do a trimmed down version of my original ambitious menu. Looks like most places are the whole deal. Will make a few calls based on the links and see if they can do individual sides and starters. One more question, anyone know where I can get the really small pre baked tart cases? That might be an easy one if I get help to do a few fillings.

Just wanted to post an update for people looking for the information in the future: 1. Got the card done at Rashid. Turns out even if you apply online you need to go there with a photo and the documents to activate. Its really only the payment that appears to be online. We had to actually go to accounts, get it activated and then go to the card section and collect it. Not too hard but parking was a nightmare. 2. Documents needed are tenancy contract/dewa bill. Proof of visa and ID. Photograph. Payment or proof of online payment (the receipt you get). 3. To make the appointment, you need to go with pretty much the same documents (primarily the proof of residence) to the clinic nearest to your area. Look online for the catchment areas. 4. Once the appointment is booked you get reminders etc 5. Visit there was great. One person ahead of us for an 8am appointment. They took a full history and gave us a card that you need to bring each time. We were in and out in 50 minutes including the full first time history and registration. They even booked our next appointment before we left. (This was Al Safa) Just one bit of additional info about the vaccines. They don't do the Rotavirus one at the government clinics. But they want you to get it done in private (?!). So you need to time it correctly. The lady at the clinic said either within 24 hours of the vaccines (something to do with them doing the polio one as an oral administration rather than a shot) or after a month, with a month between that and the next dose. Dr Syed Rais Ahmed our paed only gave us the after a month option so we're going with that. Ok... thats all I have :) Thanks a ton ladies who helped me get this sorted. Its a great option.

The key thing if you've decided to get a full time helper is to see if you can trust them. It'll be very hard to have someone in your space and watch over them all the time. I know there are a lot of horror stories out there, but there are plenty of good ones for each one of them. And I prefer to focus on those. So here is what we do: 1. She has the main keys. All the rest of the doors are open anyway. We could lock some of the other rooms if we wanted I guess but we don't. 2. My everyday jewelry is in a box on my bedside table. The rest and our documents etc we leave in a little locker in our cupboard. This was even before we had her. 3. We have her passport as well in our locker. Partly because she asked us to keep it for safe keeping and partly it makes me more comfortable to be honest. I know there are some hotly contested views on this, but this is what we do. 4. She works from early morning to lunch. Then has the afternoon off and come back in the evening and leaves after dinner. This is because she helps me with baby mainly and these are the times I need her most. We're pretty flexible overall no fixed hours. She has a day off a week and asks me when she wants to go out other times. Hope that helps.

You will have to go the health clinic that is designated for your residential area...you can get tht from the site or by calling 800DHA. As i mentioned, just take your payment receipt. We havn't collected LO's card yet, but have registered at the al mankhool clinic. From previous posters, i think safa is a good choice... Great. Thanks. We are in Jumeirah 3 so it is one of the areas covered. Will take paperwork and go get an appointment!

Tarana thanks... sorry i wasn't clear. Your first email is the answer i was looking for. I did actually apply and pay 110 online. Just didn't get anything other than a payment receipt. To give you more detail, when I log in and check status, it says healthcard 'pending'. I guess I'll just take the paperwork and picture and go to Rashid like you and Anon say. Can I just ask, when you made the appointment, how did you guys do it? I was looking to get it at the one in Safa (between Al Wasl and Jumeirah Beach Road). Should I go there?

Typed out a lonnnng reply and my window hung! Anyway here is the essence of it... My daughter had silent reflux which has now come to the not grunting not much writhing throwing up kind which I prefer to the hellish first few weeks (she was nearly 5 weeks when we found out - started with Gaviscon and moved on to Zantac+Motillium). It definitely needs someone to support you through. Sensible paed is what we got - Dr Sayed Rais Ahmed (he's in Kids First and City Hospital as well on Mondays and Thursdays). I would happily recommend him. GERD is hard to diagnose since to be absolutely certain you need invasive tests. Which doctors won't put babies through unless you have no option. Instead they diagnose on the basis of symptoms (i kept a log for a few days of food, nappies and all else including grunting and squealing which helped me answer a lot of the questions better). Good luck! And just to make you feel better, Dr A said in most cases its just infant reflux and goes away between 4-6 months. Thats what my lil girl has. The meds are to make her more comfortable since the acid wreaks havoc in some cases.

I've heard that one can now apply for a HC online. Has anybody tried that? Yes, through the Dubai Hospital site. U need passport copy, visa copy, photo and to pay the fee of 110 I think was it.. mpp or anon... any help would be appreciated... I applied online since it seemed the easier choice at the time (anon i know you said to go to Rashid but being an internet person i figured this was brilliant :(). Did it towards the end of November. Got a patient ID number but no next steps. Any idea on what i need to do now? Called the call centre - absolutely no help, they asked me to call Dubai Hospital who put me on hold to get to the right department and I haven't got through after several tries. So was hoping one of you ladies can help.

I used an Avent digital sterilizer for Dr Brown's 4 ounce bottles. Worked for the breast pump as well. However, now that we're moving to the 8 ounce bottles, they don't fit into the sterilizer unless you take the top tray off. You can still use it successfully, just maybe with fewer bottles at a time. I'm very happy with this arrangement though. From my research, the only sterilizer that works to fit a lot of the larger Dr Brown's bottles is the Dr Brown's one. It isn't available here though :(. Also, to the best of my knowledge, you need to thoroughly wash the bottles before putting it into a sterilizer. It only steams and kills germs and doesn't clean at all (unlike a dish washer). Edited to fix the million spellos! edited by susandiaz on 09/12/2011

susandiaz, thanks for the recommendation! Senseasia was lovely. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Sooo relaxing. Funnilly enough they recommended the tri enzyme one for me too. It felt a little like they were pushing that one. But it was lovely so that's ok! Thanks again. Glad you enjoyed it! Hmmmm... they recommended it to me too. But the lady was Thai and her English was not great so I couldn't really say if it was a push. Oh well, worked great for me so all good. :)

So I have a heap of bottles I tried because my little girl has reflux and didn't really like most of the bottles I tried except Dr Brown's. Anyone who needs them or knows someone who needs them is welcome to have them for free. What I have is: 4 x Tomee Tipee anti colic bottles (Level 1 and 2 teats - level 2 are used a few times. Level one is brand new since it came with the bottle and she was over 3 months so i went straight to 2) 3 x Avent regular (one is anti colic i think - ditto on the teats. Have 2&3 in this case because Avent uses 2 for 1-3 months and 3 for over that) Both are 8/9 ounces i think. I also have 5 well used but in perfect condition Dr Browns 4 ounce bottles (a teat change and you're good to go) If any one needs these, please let me know and I'll post my email :).

I had SPD and sciatica in my pregnancy as well as after. Saw Lauren at Dubai Osteopathic Health Centre (same place). She's brilliant. Really helped me. She's pregnant too now and due for her maternity leave sometime soon. So maybe check if she's available? I highly recommend her. if not I've heard most of the people at the place are good - heard about Aziza too. I've used malcolm gregory for my back pre pregnancy and he's great as well.

Sorry for the late reply. I seem to have missed this. I understand the reasoning I suppose for the Catholic godparents. It's just that in our opinion godparents need to be fit and willing to raise the child overall. And unfortunately, for us, there isn't anyone Catholic that can do that :(. Good idea to talk to the parish priest. Is he receptive and open to things or quite rigid about the rules do you think? We've met him but didn't really get a feel for this sort of thing. Also what paperwork if any do they require from the godparents? I thought the role of godparents was to steer the child on its religious journey? I think most confuse this with the role off taking over in case of an accident/death of parents.... ??? Or is it both??? I understood that it was both.... isn't it? Although you can choose to have 2 different sets i suppose.

Don't actually know anything about the facials at Dermacare. Went there once for my dermatitis. Wasn't unduly impressed (to be fair though sebohrric? dermatitis is not curable only maintained). The reason i didn't love it though was that there was an emphasis on follow ups and the use of certain products etc which i thought was much too commercial - and i know from a long history, doesn't actually work. If you'd like my suggestion, unless you've got some specific problem you'd like to address, try an indulgent facial (i tried the tri-enzyme facial from elemis at SensAsia spa. It is a resurfacing facial which brightens and makes your skin feel quite good. you may need to do 2-3 but i loved them. i have some late onset acne and it helped me at 35 and overall my face is brighter and softer. its about 600 btw). Other places have them too but i like sense asia spa. While i was there, i found the Dr Gross alpha beta peel that you may have heard about. its got great reviews that you can look up. maybe try something like that first as a milder lead in that maintains rather than does anything drastic. i say this because you've said you have no problems to address. ok... rambled enough. hope that helps! Happy birthday! :)

Still wear the anita ones though i'm done feeding ;). Got mine at http://www.nursingbra-shop.co.uk/ very cool site i found on here. stock all sorts of sizes and charge something really small for international delivery.

Congratulations! Sounds wonderful. After my CS a friend told me to take Arnica. Its natural meds, homeopaths and nutrition stores should have it. I got it from a homeopath. Its a bit of a pain to take, every couple of hours for a few days, but its meant to help with the healing of cuts and bruises. Not sure if it was because i took that or not but i got to the 50% better point very very quickly. Beyond that i took me a while and now at 3 months I'm still not a hundred percent (but thats probably because I'm a lazy piece of work that hasn't exercised at all ;)). Good luck with your recovery. And enjoy your baby.

real tress are available here and they're amazing! i get mine from plant street in satwa. if you buy one of the stands that you fill up with water, rather than putting them in a bucket, they will last ages. mine lasted all through december last year and would have gone on longer. they drink a lot of water (mine had a pint a day!) but so worth it. ladies... i'm due to deliver my 2nd child first week of Feb and I'm just debating which breast pump i should use... will definitely need one as i go back to full-time work two months after i have the baby... with my first i used the medela single electric and not sure why but after around 6 months i had exhausted my bm completely... don't know if the pump had anything to do with it... then lent it to my sil and onwards to another friend and now the pump is not working very well (the last user claims)... so will need to get a new one this time round looking at a double electric pump instead of the single... just to speeden up the process... Medela has two versions - one called Pump in Style and the other called Freestyle... Do any of you have any experience with these? Or do u suggest another brand? Pls advise... TIA AnC... if you're still looking for this here r my thoughts. i got the medela freestyle after a lot of research and the advice of some ladies on here. For me it was clearly medela over philips and i just had to choose between the 2 double models. chose freestyle in the end because of its USP :p. the ability to have hands free pumping sold me. in actuality - its not terribly comfortable or attractive to use the freestyle straps but none of the options to keep you're hands free are (including the bras you get to attach regular pumps). You should know that when you buy a double pump you get a lot of extras like a bag and keep cool stuff etc which you might not need unless you plan to pump on the go a lot, but thats the only option unfortunately - and it does make it more expensive. So here's what you can do: Option 1: its available on sale in baby shop for just under 1600. Option 2: I have the freestyle which i got for 2100. i used it only for 5/6 weeks on and off - not regularly, since I don't work; was trying to increase supply/get some sleep. long story short, BF didn't work for me. I'm happy to let it go for 1100 (i can also throw in some extras like unopened storage bags, breast pads and some spare parts). If you're comfortable with that its possible to just sterilize and use. i've already sterilized and put away in its bag. if not all the spare parts are available both in baby shop and online. Let me know if you're interested at all and i'll post my address.

Hi, I'm just trying to work out when and where to get the bulk of my baby shopping done before little one arrives. There seems to be a few sales on here at the moment but I'm just wondering whether there are likely to be good savings in the shopping festival and if I should wait till then? Thinking of things like the car seat, nursery furniture, breast pump, monitor etc. Otherwise I have a few visitors coming out from the UK in the next few weeks and can get them to bring some stuff out (although sadly they won't be able to hit the post christmas sales for me as the last ones leave the UK straight after Xmas!) baby shop is on sale now and the discount is as high as its likely to go in my experience. don't think it'll get any cheaper during dsf. they stock a lot of the larger electronics you're looking for. some not as cheap as the UK or the US but if you factor in shipping the deals are better on sale here. since you have people coming out it might be worth a visit to baby shop to compare. i personally don't love the furniture at baby shop but got a lot of other things there - most of the items you mention as well as now a lot of toys for the upcoming months: bouncers/walkers/bumbo type stuff. furniture i got at pottery barn. spent a bit coz like you this is my first and we wanted to indulge plus we'd got a lot on sale/as gifts/shipped here so i thought i could indulge here. hope that helps and happy shopping!

ID Design in MOE had a DUlux counter that has contacts for a few mural painters. They are not cheap and in the end we went with wallpaper and a decal becAuse it achieved the look we wanted for a lot less. But they are available and had their own options of designs as well as could paint a custom one if you have something in mind.

Just checking to see if anyone had their baby christened lately in the Jebel ali church (St francis). Wanted to have our little girl baptized there and checked the website which seems to have an awful lot of requirements. Any info would be appreciated. My husband and I are both catholic - but the people who we're asking to be the godparents are not. I'm not really a major church goer and when he does go he goes to jebel ali. Do you have to be a registered member? When he asked them at the office a few weeks ago they said they only register new comers for a meet and greet. Floss SJ it would be great to get your email - if you're still happy to be contacted on this.

I had it but it's absolutely not mandatory (insurance doesn't cover it unless you're over 35). Don't feel pressured into doing it at all. It's only a screening test that's adviced after 35 in some countries and after 40 in others.

DH made a mistake and took out the MOH card instead of the Dubai Health card but it worked out fine in the end. We did all DD's immunizations at Al Ittihad clinic near Safa Park. Its never full. We would just walk in and wait for 5 minutes while they found her card and sent us in. Whole process would never be more than 20 minutes. I will definitely take out the MOH health card for the second LO. There are 2 different cards? Excellent just when I thought I'd figured it out :D. The clinic near safa is the closest to us. Can you go to any one of the clinics on either card or only on the MOH one?

I got skinny maternity jeans from Destination Maternityy (Mavi brand reduced from 700 dirhams to 150 dirhams) and another pair from Top Shop (which I still wear 5 months on as they suit non-pregnant tummies too). Me too. Got 3 different branded ones reduced from 700+ to 125 at Destination Maternity. It's a gamble on the size tho when theyre on sale like that. Not sure this helps you at this point Lec299 but they also have their own brand jeans. Some of the best skinnies I've had - including non preg ones :) Hopefully you found something this afternoon.

I had my little girl at Medcare in August. Overall, I'd say it was a reasonably good experience. It is what you make of it I suppose. I was with dr yuliya too - from back in her city days. She is outstanding and that extends to making sure your time in medcare is good too. I was very keen on an all natural birth even had a doula ( fOr which I got advance written permission) but ended up being induced the day after d day because of high blood pressure, not dilating at all, having an allergic reaction, which resulted in fetal stress and meconium stain which ended in an emergency C. I don't think they handled that part brilliantly at all! There weren't proper explanations, wanting to hook me to monitors and constantly check. I had to literally strike, refuse to sit ot allow anyone to touch me until I got explanations. But once i did that and demanded that nothing be done till my doctor got there, things got better. Not to scare you but I'm telling that story just so you know that unless you're firm they will go about their routines without consulting you. Besides that all was good. Once you're in the delivery room/Theatre with your doc, she's the boss and they'll do as she says. Same goes for aftercare. If you're not happy with something or have questions just tell yuliya and she'll sort it out. I had only one complaint with pain meds which was that they wouldn't give me anything but panadol ( which is like candy to me :P) and she made sure I got voltaren supps. The nurses were very good and responsive in their aftercare. Some better than other as it is everywhere. One big problem with medcare is room availability. They are a small hospital. Be insistent. Even after surgery I was put into a sharing room for an hour while they got one sorted. And I think it wouldve been longer if we hadn followed up - and thanks to a lovely headnurse called Mira. Overall, it's not a warm and fuzzy place like city was back then. Probably more medical in their approach to birth than some would like. But if you know what you want and will make sure you get it, and with yuliyas support, you will get it. In the end for me it was a choice between yuliya and sucking it up at medcare. Or city/American and a different doctor. I chose yuliya. Ps: yuliya is a brilliant surgeon. Took baby out in 8 mins. Made sure she sewed me up slowly for nearly 45 to avoid scarring trouble. Really low neat cut. She came in and cleaned wound each day herself. And sent me home a day early with instructions on how to remove dressing. After that it was just soap and water from day 4. And I was walking within 15 hours of surgery.

Sorry to hijack but I was hoping someone can tell me what the process is to access these clinics for the immunisations? Looked up the website but can't seem to find the information. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks a ton. Firstly, do you have a government health card? No anonDubai. She doesn't have a health card yet. Think my husband has his but I'm pretty sure it has expired - it's from back when you needed it to have a visa stamped. Baby has a passport with a visa stamped in it now. So can I be really troublesome and ask where we go from here?

I had acupuncture done the day before I was due for an induction in a last ditch attempt to get things started. Didn't work how I wanted it to. I have heard great things about dr ou. She was traveling at the time ans suggested another doctor. To be fair though, it usually takes more than one session to see results. Good luck. I remember the last few uncomfortable days vividly. No fun at all!

I travelled out at 25 and returned at close to 27. Was pretty large and had SPD to boot. Took an 8.5 hour flight to Thailand. But when there we had a really chilled holiday so i guess that matters as well as flying distance. My doctor cleared me for travel till 36 weeks (at the time of return obviously coz of airline restrictions) if I wanted but I went early as planned. I had to carry a 'foetal travel certificate' which just is a doctors note saying I'm fit for travel. Nobody asked to see it though on the way back every emirates staff member that saw me stopped and asked me how far along I was. Told you I was large ;) Eta: oh yeah and a 4 hour transit in Bangkok with an hours flight to koh samui. And got there to discover emirates left our luggage behind. So had to walk aound for agesssss trying to find something other than bikinis to wear until the next day! So I say go for it if you feel fine :). Just book refundable everything if you're booking way in advance. edited by susandiaz on 10/11/2011

Been trying out the Angelcare for a bit longer before we give up. Good to know your views considering you have both M. A lot of people speak highly of the avent but don't have experience of the other - and I really don't want to spend another pile and have a similar situation. Maybe I'm expecting too much of a monitor and they're all like this??!! For the momement it works till the passage way downstairs if I leave baby's room partially open. So going with that. My husband has hooked it to a camera tripod stand so going to try moving it a few feet away from the bed, closer to the door and see if it will extend atleast to the entrance of the living room. If not I guess I'll get one of the cheaper no frills ones like the one green-ish has and use both (one to alert me to any sound and the Angelcare for the video to check) Thanks again.

saw some this morning at Waitrose in marina mall... God bless you!! My husband went over and got 4 cans. Should tide me over nicely till the order from Spinneys comes in (which if they're to be believed is this week)! Thank you all ladies. And shannonB SMA is different from Similac. No idea what it stands for buy it's a formula that's imported from the UK and apparently tends to be scarce now and again. Thanks though.

Alicia, can I get in on that... I have an unopened can of s26 only the 450 though. I use SMA and if I need to change (coz it's not available here for the minute :() I plan to try aptamil. I am in jumeirah 3 near safa park but will happily drop off if it's not too far ( read midriff or jebel ali :))
