KM, thanks for replying. It's an aircon, with an auto option but it must be set up for the auto option to take effect. It's the LG one...hoping some Lakes residents can shed some much needed light! :(

Mine's 2.5 years apart. I like their age gap. I wanted it to be a maximum of 3 years as we sort of wanted to get the baby thing/sleepless night etc thing out of the way in one go. I have heard if the gap is too big, it is way too much of a shock to the system to start all over again with No. 2 just when you have completed every stage imaginable with No. 1. Actually, regardless of the gap, its always a shock to the system ;) but I am glad I did it that way...Soon they will be similar ages to be able to do long haul flights with them, go to Disney land etc. I like the fact that they will experience things together but that the gap was not so small that I was left traumatized with both in nappies at the same time

She has a no nonsense attitude and make you realise the error of your ways but its all good ;) I found mine to be happier now that I am firmer with them (always been firm but not consistently firm) as they seem to like the security the predicatbility/boundaries brings. They now know they have choices (age appropriate ones). If they choose wrong, they suffer the consequences and when they choose correctly, they get the reward (and this does not have to be materialistic). I think, for me at least, it came down to two things, I wanted them to listen first time around (very important) and two, to internalise the difference between right and wrong and teaching them to make the right choices. That is discipline and not punishment, which is short lived and gives instant results but is not sustainable long term. It is of course never too late but the best time to instill this discipline is beteen the ages of 0-6 years. I would definitely recommend you buy her book and she also has reward charts. Your DS may be too young to use it but I bought one for mine anyway, as its hard to find nice ones like hers in Dubai. DD started on her chart and she has been doing brilliantl, with a few steps back here and there but overall, great. I feel more in control and they know I have taken the control back and it just makes for a less stressed household. The real breakthrough comes when you find you are actually now spending quality time with them and not just scolding them when you are together. Good luck for the visit (and be strong!) xx

Hi DC, some great advice on here. Just wanted to assure you that Supergranny is great. We just had a visit from her the past weekend and my ones are showing a huge improvement. Get her book (it seems to cover everything she will go through with you during the session as well). The visit was well worth it and I feel refreshed to keep going with my two. Good luck and remember consistency pays off. Easier said than done when you are dead tired but it really is the magic word and will all work out in the end. Hugs xxx I know I've posted on this before but I'm feeling a bit down about it today. DS was a horror - utterly, absolutely, unbelievably awful. He had a friend round for a playdate and spent the afternoon hitting him, pushing him over and generally being a vile bully. Then he spent our walk trying to kick his five-week-old sister below him in the buggy, and finally when we got home ran up and smacked her round the head. The rest of his day was spent alternately attacking the Christmas tree, throwing things (something he does all the time), jumping on the coffee table or bouncing on the sofas. I was so embarrassed I wanted to cry. Me telling him no, or putting him in time out in the naughty corner, has absolutely no effect whatsoever. Shouting at him has no effect either. Dad is staying with us at the moment and it seems we don't share the same opinion on methods of discipline. He thinks DS should get a smack for his behaviour. I don't see how we can teach him not to hit people if we're then going to hit him. We have a visit scheduled from SuperGranny (the Monsters to Munchkins lady) on Monday but my main issue is that I really don't agree with smacking him as punishment. I want him to respond to calm discipline, not violence. I know I'm his mother and it should be up to DH and I but DH also thinks he should get a smack (despite having been on the receiving end of awful beatings from his own father), so I'm fighting my corner alone :(. Any suggestions? edited by DubaiCat on 06/12/2011

Right on cue, after a feed at 7.30, no more sleeping baby :(. We pick her up, snuggle her, try a dummy... she nods off then something wakes her up! She wouldn't settle till gone 11 last night. With another good feed in the middle of all this. And if I try and feed her more often, she sucks but isn't feeding so I'm the dummy :(. She sleeps like a log during the day, pretty much all the time she isn't feeding. And we don't bath her regularly yet as she seems to hate it. Should we start? DC, if she's not in pain, but just awake it could just be because she has had enough sleep during the day. I know its hard, but the best solution for that is to sleep when she's sleeping so you are awake when she is and don't turn into a zombie in the near future. It is good to bath her at night, not full on, until her cord has dried out and fallen off, but a splash of warm water will help settle her for the night and babies love a good rub. Try the night ones with the lavender in. I know they bath the babies in the mornings while they are in hospitals, beats me, and that is why they sleep so much after that for almost all day. Definitely try to switch to evening bath times. If she is in pain however, it could be colic. My DS had colic and would cry for sometimes 3 hours on end around the same time every night. Colic aid or disflatyl usually solved that problem. Initially anyway. Good luck xx

I had one when I first came to Dubai as I always wanted one. Apart from the space being an issue even if you think it won't be, it didn't pick up speed fast enough (it sounded as if the gears were taking too long to change, if that makes sense) and it was way too small for Dubai roads. There's absolutely no respect for small cars here. After my second accident (both times knocked from behind) I decided to sell it after just 5 months :( I have since bought SUV's, couldn't be happier and feel like I "belong" on the road.

LoopyLoo, this may be a long shot, but I recall a few weeks ago in the DBS newsletter that they found a lost cat that was sent home with one of the teachers. Just saw your post as I havent been on here for ages. Maybe you can call DBS? I think the teacher who had him was called Lynn.... Just maybe..? Just found the text from the letter. If you post your email, I will send you her mobile number. They said its a she but you never know... Lost kitten! A pretty tortoiseshell and white kitten has been found in the Foundation outdoor storage area. She is not micro-chipped and therefore we don’t know if she has an owner. She is currently at home with one of teachers. If you have lost, or would like to adopt the kitten, please call.... edited by SweetSugar123 on 16/11/2011

Try Fiber Forms 043330268. We got a quote from them before, they are not the cheapest, but are the ones who do all the Sail Shades at most schools and nurseries etc. so quality work.

We are in the Lakes so we also have to use Du instead of Etisalat for telephone/internet etc but certainly not a must for TV satelite packages. DU has a TV package but its optional to take and as we have always had OSN, I opted to stay with them when we moved to the Lakes. Call OSN, I am sure they can/will install on the Palm. 04 3677888. If not, it may be something new I'm not aware of. HTH.

We have the OSN one, additional AED88 to your current subscription. Comes with many filipino channels. You can just call them up or go to the many kiosks in the malls and ask for the "maids" one. The decoder is free. They will know what you are requesting as its apparently popular amongst maids.

Another small room here! (in the Lakes) :( We got ours at Homes R Us in Ibn Battuta - fits perfectly as its narrow but not too narrow for her and she says its very comfortable. Still leaves space for a chest of drawers that she also puts her TV on. I think including the mattress it was under AED500. Helps that she's a tiny thing though ;)

I like both your responses. You can serve food but it would be in the cafe/waiting area, which as I mentioned is not close to the birthday party room. They could always buy their own snacks if they fancied waiting there, right? I have only invited her friends and have had moms ask right out can the brothers/sisters come too. I could never ask that so dont even know what to say to them! Well I'd think of an answer, otherwise you could end up with parents rocking up and dropping off hoards of kids, plus maids for you to deal with. You're right! There certainly wont be food for them. Its a huge play area, only thing is, they would have to pay if their kids play and does not form part of the official birthday party. I will tell them that. Up to them if they dont want to come along then. I will read the other thread as well. So, am I being difficult or reasonable?

City Movers. Speak to Mohammed Shabeer 0508741533. Used them for our past 3 moves, very reasonable price, in fact the same cost for all the moves although we moved across Dubai with the last one. They have never broken anything, thank goodness. edited by SweetSugar123 on 26/09/2011

DC - it's a journey really and just when you think you have mastered one thing, they come up with another thing you have to deal with. I have a 4 yr old and 18 mnth old and I found consistency to be key. Learnt that from the supernnay programs. The minute I slide on doing the time out thing consistently, I also see a slip in behavior. I also did time out in the play cot when DD was too young to stay in one place and believe me they "get it". One day, I did it in a different place and she miraculously did not move. They HATE time out but it amazingly works wonders and they learn that mommy is serious. It takes a while to get there but after a while you only have to talk once and they will listen without having to give a warning. I taught my maid how to do it correctly too. Just make the "rules" clear. For his age, you can do 1 minute. Its not always nice to do but when you see the pay off (a happier mommy and child all round) its worth it. Sucks to hear them cry though :( Be strong. Hugs....

Not my health, more like my hair :( Spending allot more money on good hair products and treatments. The shower filters help, but not greatly. Same here :( Where can you buy shower filters from and how do they work? I got these: http://www.h2opureblue.com/ They delivered but I believe they are available in many pharmacies now. Maybe call and check with them first.

DC, I have been getting my curtains from DM for the past few years; each time we moved into a new villa as the window heights keep changing! I always go to Zhongdi. They are not always plain but usually have what I am looking for at the time. The quality and workmanship is good. For plain ones, try Homes R Us. Not bad quality, lined and good prices. You can also take curtains you bought elsewhere to Zhongdi and they will put blackout lining on it for you. Just did that for all my windows a few months ago. Cost about AED50 per curtain if I remember correctly. Good luck.

Thanks Mom*3. I really like the look of JW too, but I read its so far from everything and there arent many restaurants around the resort so eating in the resort and travel into town costs you a arm and a leg! We will probably just want to go into town once or twice. Do you know if its very far and also are there some restaurants we can dine in thats close by to the resort?

Sorry to hear that. Hugs to you. You could still try the tummy binders, they work best during the 1st 3 months post op but the 1st 6 months is ok too. Does help with pushing things back including the pouch in the long term but you must wear it 24/7 except for in the shower or when sleeping if its too uncomfortable. Life pharmacy had the nice broad ones for Dhs120 that stated specifically made for wearing after c-sections. Good luck for tomorrow...

Forever 21, take it easy, this is very strenuous exercise and as a c-section is a major tummy op, it takes up to a year for it to heal completely on the inside. This is in spite of it looking like its healed on the outside. Three months is still early days. I had 2 c-sections, trust me you don't want the scar rupturing internally. Don't mean to scare you, just please take care. I did the 30 day shred 10 months after delivery.

Dress up days are my all time most detested days, As soon as I see the slip from school I start growling! This year we've had Roman day, Space day, Rock Star day, International day, UAE day, Red day, Black day, Green day, Pink day, Easter Bonnet day, Pirate day, Under Water day Plus Plus Plus.... Drives me insane that I have to fork out at least 60 dhs to get an outfit together. Then kids have to bring in min 5 dhs donation for charity for wearing stupid clothes that they will never wear again and will have outgrown by next year!!! Really wish school would just ask for the donation, They would collect so much more money if we didn't have to get dumb outfits GRRRR with you on that one :)
