It's actually very unhealthy to do what she prob did to her body so soon after pregnancy! DS is now two and I still haven't completly lost my tummy but I'm healthy and would rather have the occasional piece of choccie than look like her!

There was a thread about this yesterday. Again I recommend Dr Hamzeh at the Meadows clinic.

I second Dr Hamzah, only just discovered him and he is great! He's fabulous with the kids isn't he? We are down there so much he tells me he is getting me a room ready in the clinic to live in! Save some space for me! I had to go twice in 2 weeks for 2 seperate things and still need to go back for DS 2 year check up!

What about a special day with mummy, you could transform your living room in a beauty salon for a day and do your nails and stuff or go to the movies and a meal just the 2 of you. My dad has no money and wanted to know what to he could get for my half sister's 11th birthday and I suggested they'd go for a walk just the 2 of them as they don't spend that much time together and I knew she'd love that.

We also use Finish tablets same as we did back home and they work fine. We try and only buy them on special offer when they have them to cut the cost down a bit.

One of my friends lives in Springs 2 and she likes the area very much. The main thing I hear from people living in Springs is that some of the facilities are a bit tired. The play areas are not that great (especially for small children) and the pools not ideal for swimming. Just like somebody else suggested I would have a drive around and look at the facilities in your area (incl. neighbouring Springs). There is a bus from the Meadows Town Centre to Tecom. I don't which is the nearest but stop to Springs 9 but I think it takes about 30 minutes to Internet City Metro Station. It drives around the Greens for a bit (which also have a few cafes and restaurants, a Choitrams, etc)

Didn't have a child when I lived in London but I think the buses are fairly easy to use with a pushchair. The main thing you will have to remember is that if the bus is full you will have to fold the pushchair and take your child on your lap. In central London the buses are fairly new and usually have a disabled space where you can "park" (so long as no wheelchairs on board of course). I believe some routes still run the old route masters and those ones would be a nightmare and best avoided (huge step to get in and out and no space). As for the Tube, like JS said you'll have to do a bit of research to see which station have disabled access. The Piccadilly line in particular is very deep and some station only have lifts but if they don't the escalator would be pretty scary with a pram. I took DS (then 18 month) to London in the summer and the station nearest our hotel didn't have lift only steps (no escalator either good old fashion Nothern Line) but each time people offered to help. Same with the stations that had a step to get out the train....

I've not used any agencies for regular babysitting, only for one offs. We used Busybees http://www.busybeesdubai.com/ and the ladies have all been very good with DS. The lady we had in December was very good, her name is Fleur. HTH

Sit somewhere with a view, a good book and an iced coffee... instead I'm stuck at home with my poorly 2 yr old (2nd stomach bug in 3 weeks), at least I managed to get my iced coffee with my take away lunch (couldn't face cooking after moping the sick) :(

Rome - although not the most practical with a pram. Maybe if you have one of those backpack thingies for the days you visit the ruins. Museums and churches are fine with pram. We did Venice with 10 month old DS but again not v practical with a pram so we used a backpack carrier. DH was carrying him around everywhere so quite a physical holiday for him ;)

my son no. 2 persuaded me to watch the holiday and home alone last night, with a glass of fizz and a pizza, it cheered me up no end and i dont feel so down about christmas now. i suppose after having my son and dil and 3 grandchildren visiting last year and us being alone this year it got to me a bit. but after last night i have woken up full of christmas spirit. and the planes were quiet last night so got a full nights sleep - yippee tonight we are off to see wafi tree and decorations, wafi christmas light show and then on to madinat for the festive area and a glass of glugw. merry christmas one and all. :) just remembered arthur christmas starts today, yay i will be off to see that too. edited by fairwater on 22/12/2011 I know where you are coming from having spent a few Christmases on my own when I lived in the UK! So have a very merry Christmas and enjoy yourself :)

When I lived in the UK I used to sponsor a child through Action Aid. They were really good and it was not just the child benefiting as the whole village got workshops and help building a better life for themselves. If I was to do it again I would choose them again. http://www.actionaid.org.uk/100044/sponsor_a_child_today.html?&mkwid=suNZSUgvw&pcrid=7723474683&plid=&kword=action%2520aid&gclid=CI_Y2Nzlga0CFcRtfAodk3K5eg

For the earring I would say go to Claire's I bought a few pairs there for my 11 year old half sister and she loves them. I have not yet been to Hamley's but Toys R Us in both DFC and Times Square have a good range of toys that I find reasonably priced. I wouldn't be a very good shopping buddy as I have a two year old and don't drive either sorry!

DH suggested that since you bought a tall tree you could trim/cut the lower branches so that your little one can't reach any. Obviously only works if it's a real tree ;)

The Dead Sea is a short drive from Amman from what I remember. I don't anything about Bethany but I can recommand Mount Nebo instead which is less than 2 hour drive from Amman and has wonderful views over the neighbouring country as well a nice little chapel. If you decide on the taxi option don't forget to agree the price (and haggle hard) before setting off none of the taxis are metered.

Last year DS was 12 months and not quite walking yet. He was interested in the tree but I told him no touching! I didn't put any decorations apart from the lights where he could reach and the tree survived unscathed from 1st December to early January even it did look slightly odd with decoration at the bottom ;)

SwissSandy, Can you tell me where you are getting your hand/foot print jewellery made? Reason I ask is that my good friend in the UK makes this type of thing and I have been thinking about setting something similar up here as I didn't think anyone would do it here? Thanks! Also, about this thread......I'm also having a bit of a mare as it is DH birthday....TODAY! and I still need to go and get him something....arrggh! If you see a stressed out brit lady in MOE later today, that will be me! Normally I am really organised.....not this year! I ordered mine from Desert Charms. She has a Facebook page: Facebook.com/DubaiDesertCharms. I know there is another company doing them here as I've seen them both at EW fair but can't remember the name of the other. Maybe somebody on here will remember...

Does anyone know if they sell those little UAE flags in MoE or Ibn Battuta. Or anything with UAE flags or UAE colours that kids can wear for National Day at school. I really don't have time to make anything before Wednesday. I saw lots of stuff in Geant in Ibn Battuta today. Not sure about flags but scarves, hats etc.

My first reaction was also to fight your ground but then I thought do you really want to leave your LO with these people? They are obviously not willing to look after him properly if they think they need to expel him! But still get the doctor's not etc as MomofTwins suggested so that the next nursery can't say they wont take based on the first place judgement...

You could try Timberland for boots similar to Caterpillar Yes Timberland have similar ones orr some of the regular shoe shops tend to sell the Caterpillar ones.
